Flair and Steamboat is one of the best matches I've ever seen
9 June 2016 | by (victoria b.c canada) – See all my reviews

Live from New Orleans, Louisiana

Attendance: 5,300

Your commentators are Jim Ross & Michael 'P.S.' Hayes

The Samoan Swat Team (W/Paul E. Dangerously) Vs The Midnight Express (W/Jim Cornette)

The SST wins after one of the members nail Bobby Eaton with Paul E's cellphone. This was a LONG and tedious match. Not only was it way too long, but inconsistently paced as well. The moments of excitement are scattered in with plenty moments of boredom.

**

The Great Muta (W/Gary Hart) Vs Steven Casey

Muta wins with a moonsault off the top. I'm gonna go ahead and give this match ** stars. Even though Muta dominated most of the match, Muta's offense was so much fun to watch.

**

The Junkyard Dog Vs Butch Reed (W/Hiro Matsuda)

JYD wins after whipping Butch Reed into Matsuda. I groaned when this match was announced on the card. That said, I tried to go in with an open mind. These two ended up having a mediocre match with a botched finish.

*1/2

United States Tag Team Championship

Rick Steiner & Eddie Gilbert (C) (W/Missy Hyatt) Vs Kevin Sullivan & Danny Spivey

Steiner and Gilbert win after Gilbert nails Sullivan with Missy's purse. Sullivan and Spivey bust Gilbert open after the match. This was obviously cut short due to time constraints. It was alright for what it was.

*1/2

World Heavyweight Championship (2 out of 3 falls)

Ricky Steamboat (C) Vs Ric Flair

Steamboat retains the title after a very controversial finish. This is one of the best matches I've ever seen in my life. This is pure, unadulterated wrestling. They went out there for literally almost an hour and just wrestled. This match has everything you can possibly imagine in it. It was exhausting to watch! It's matches like this that make me proud to be a wrestling fan. Amazingly enough, they still had more left in them! They would have one more classic match at Wrestlewar later that year.

***** (5 out of 5 stars)

Skip the rest of this show and just watch Flair and Steamboat, although, Flair and Steamboat may be worth watching for this PPV alone.
