Dallas returned to Channel 5 with nearly 3 million viewers on Wednesday, while new ITV1 drama Mrs Biggs debuted with just over 4 million.

TV review: Vexed; Restoration Home

The new series of this cop drama is almost guaranteed to make you watch the Olympics instead

Should you have momentarily tired of the round-the-clock Olympics coverage on the BBC and tried channel- hopping, it will not have escaped your attention that the other stations have – by and large – given up the ghost for two weeks and chosen to fill their schedules with repeats and arts documentaries. Why spend a lot of money on broadcasting something half decent if no one is going to watch?

So when the BBC chooses to put its brand new series of Vexed (BBC 2), the comedy cop drama starring Toby Stephens, head to head with its own flagshow evening Olympics programme, it has to be an act of extreme faith and self-confidence or – as government special adviser Jo Moore memorably suggested on the afternoon of 9/11 – "a very good day to get out anything we want »

Vexed returns Tonight at 9pm on BBC 2 – We Interview Miranda Raison

1 August 2012 4:56 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Things are going well for Miranda Raison. Since graduating from the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art around a decade ago she has never had to work outside of acting. A rare thing indeed. After early roles in Wood Allen’s Match Point and (say it in hushed tones) Deuce Bigelow: European Gigolo, she landed the role of Jo Portman in Spooks and the rest as they say, well, the rest as they say is apparently just the beginning.

As well as roles in Sky1′s Sinbad and last year in the Oscar nominated My Week With Marilyn, tonight she’ll be appearing in a lead role in series 2 of BBC2′s cop-comedy Vexed. HeyUGuys caught up with her to discuss it.

With things going so well for Miranda, especially in the world of film, it seems natural to wonder why it is she has taken a lead role in »

Britain's Strangest Pets

8pm, Channel 5

The British love of animals is a source of bemusement to unsentimental foreigners and, certainly, there is evidence in tonight's episode that an attachment to dumb chums is often a substitute for human attachments. We meet, among others, the owner of a giant lizard looking to find it a mate, as well as those who allow micro-pigs and even a strangely coiffured chicken to pad about their living rooms. The more exotic the animals, the more quintessentially English their owners seem. David Stubbs

Vexed

9pm, BBC2

A new series and a new partner for Di Jack Armstrong as this comedy-drama cop show returns. He's not looking forward to meeting George, expecting a strict, rule-adhering man. What he gets is a strict, rule-adhering woman called Georgina. »

'Vexed' Miranda Raison: 'I'm completely different to Lucy Punch'

30 July 2012 8:17 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Vexed newcomer Miranda Raison has insisted that she will be a "completely different" influence on the show to her predecessor Lucy Punch. The Spooks actress will play Di Georgina Dixon, sidekick to Toby Stephens's Di Jack Armstrong, in the BBC comedy drama's second series. She was brought in when Punch quit her role as Di Kate Bishop after the first edition of Vexed, which aired during 2010. Speaking to Digital Spy about her experiences on Vexed, Raison recalled: "When I arrived the producer said to me 'rather than thinking in terms of the old character, it is a completely different and new character'. "[Lucy] was absolutely brilliant... Lucy's bloody good, she's an amazingly natural comedienne. But [Georgina's] all brand new. I think what her and Jack have in common is that they both think they're (more) »
