Ken Basin: [on the $1,000,000 question] All right, when I'm in a difficult situation, I always ask myself the same question: What would I regret more? Would I regret... thinking I might know it, not doing it, losing out on $500,000 extra? Would I regret more losing out on the $475,000 I've already got, more or less, in my pocket?
Regis Philbin: Well, y'know, you're an entertainment lawyer. One of your clients comes to you and says, "This is my problem", and it's basically what you just said. How do you advise him?
Ken Basin: Lawyers don't make those choices for their clients.
[audience laughter]
Ken Basin: In law school, we would say that people who went to law school went there because they were risk averse, and people who are risk-loving went to business school. I went to law school.
Regis Philbin: Uh-huh.
Ken Basin: Maybe I should've gone to business school.
[audience woos/cheers]
Regis Philbin: Oh! I see! Yeah, it's getting more exciting by the second!
[more audience cheering]
Ken Basin: I'm gonna ask a favor. Gonna ask the audience to start cheering in advance, and just stops abruptly if I get it wrong, because C: Final answer. Give me a million dollars.
[audience cheers]
Regis Philbin: N- no, it's not the final answer. You just lost a lot of money. It's Fresca.
[audience groans as the losing fanfare plays]
Regis Philbin: Ken leaves with $25,000.
[audience cheers]
Regis Philbin: How 'bout a nice hand for him though, huh? You did a great job, Ken. Too bad. You're a good guy, you'll come again, you'll make that, peanuts!
