The Midnight Express (W/Jim Cornette) Vs The Russian Assassins (W/Paul Jones)
The finish isn't shown. They cut it off for some reason. The match itself was a bit of a bore. The Russian Assassins slapped on way too many boring rest holds to the point where Jim Ross (politely as possible) called it boring. Rest holds are an important part of wrestling, I just hate it when they overdo it.
Ricky Steamboat cuts the typical clean-cut, good old American boy promo. He warns Ric Flair not to get involved in his match.
"Hacksaw" Butch Reed Vs Steve Casey
Reed wins with a flying shoulderblock from the top. This was another boring match with too many rest holds from Butch Reed. There were some audible "boring" chants from the crowd at one point. Butch was a good heel, but as a wrestler, he wasn't that great.
Ric Flair comes out for an interview with an entourage of woman. Flair basically shows off his woman and invites Ricky Steamboat to come out and have one. Steamboat says he despises everything Flair represents. Flair brags about his suits and his watch. Steamboat says Flair is everything that is wrong about wrestling. Flair tells Steamboat to go home and do his wife's dishes. Steamboat snaps and gets into a huge brawl with Ric Flair. It ends with Steamboat tearing the clothes off of Flair to the point where Flair is literally in his underwear. A decent portion of the crowd is booing Steamboat!
Thoughts: This was really well done. The brawl was intense and you could just sense the immediate chemistry between the two. I'd have preferred not to see Flair in his underwear, though.
Lex Luger Vs The Blackmailer
Luger wins with a superplex. As average as this match is, it's the best match on the show so far. That's NOT a compliment. It means the show has been really poor so far. I did like Luger using Windham's superplex to end the match.
Bob Caudle interviews Rick Steiner. It's not worth recapping.
United States Tag Team Championship
The Varsity Club (C) (Mike Rotunda & "Dr. Death" Steve Williams) (W/Kevin Sullivan) Vs The Fantastics
The Varsity Club retains. Now, that's better! This wasn't a great match by any means, but it featured quality wrestling at times. Hey, it's a start! It's just what the doctor ordered.
Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat Vs Bob Bradley
Steamboat wins with a flying cross body from the top. This was a glorified squash match. That being said, it wasn't bad. Anytime you get to watch Ricky Steamboat wrestle, you shouldn't complain.
Rick Steiner Vs Rip Morgan
Rick wins with a belly to belly suplex. This was another glorified squash match. It's always fun seeing Rick suplex people. but there is nothing special about this match what so ever.
Six Man Tag Team Championship
The Road Warriors & Genichiro Tenryu (C) Vs Sting, The Junkyard Dog, & Michael Hayes
Kevin Sullivan locks Michael Hayes, Sting, and The Junkyard Dog up after an interview. They aren't able to go to the ring for their match. The Varsity Club runs out and attacks The Road Warriors & Tenryu.
The Road Warriors & Genichiro Tenryu (C) Vs Kevin Sullivan, Mike Rotunda & "Dr. Death" Steve Williams
Sting, JYD & Michael Hayes get free, and end up running out to cause the disqualification. A huge brawl erupts between everybody as the Clash goes off the air. This was kind of a weird way to end the show. but it made sense. The Varsity Club was feuding with The Road Warriors.
This is a very poor Clash of the Champions. There is nothing what so ever that is memorable about the show. It's actually one of the weakest wrestling shows I've seen.
