Storyline

U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens is a modern day 19th century-style lawman, enforcing his brand of justice in a way that puts a target on his back with criminals and places him at odds with his bosses in the Marshal service. That conflict results in a reassignment for Givens to the U.S. District covering the town where he grew up. He is an anachronism - a tough, soft spoken gentleman who finds his quarry fascinating, but never gives an inch. Dig under his placid skin and you'll find an angry man who grew up hard in rural Kentucky, with an outlaw father, who knows a lot more about who he doesn't want to be than who he really is. Trivia

Throughout the series, the characters frequently drank Kentucky bourbon, particularly the top-shelf brand Blanton's. The props department poured the liquor out of the bottles, and replaced it with watered-down Diet Coke for the actors to drink instead. Timothy Olyphant took the real bourbon home in mason jars. On the night the series finale aired, he brought a jar of bourbon on Conan (2010) to toast to the show with Conan O'Brien. See more »

Goofs

It is clear from the surrounding countryside in more than a few episodes that while the series is set in SE Kentucky, it isn't filmed there. This includes scenes with treeless mountains in the background and semi-arid landscapes. See more »

Quotes

Ava Crowder: You're tarnished with the dark stain of D-I-V-O-R-C-E.
Raylan Givens: My marriage ended a little bit more amicably than yours.
Ava Crowder: Funny, why did your marriage end?
Raylan Givens: It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Truly enjoy this show!
18 May 2010 | by See all my reviews

I was very impressed with the show. Excellent casting choices and the characters interaction is fun to watch. Raylan gives law enforcement a good name. He's humble, honest, sexy and a force to be reckoned with, what a combination! The episodes are fresh and well written. Tim is perfect in this role which showcases his acting abilities perfectly. Looking forward to many more seasons of this fine show. Absolutely love the setting and premise being more of a small town feel. I will definitely buy this series when it comes out on DVD. I have recommended this show to family and friends. Kudos to Tim and all involved in the making of Justified. Just what TV viewers needed a thoughtful and smart series thats well worth watching.
