'Twilight' Gets Trumped (Sorta): The 2011 Year End Poll Results

28 December 2011 10:03 AM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

The results of our comprehensive battery of year end polls are in and with nearly a million votes cast (!) the message couldn't be more clear, as "Harry Potter" and "The Hunger Games" battled it out with "Twilight" and "Thor" for fan supremacy in nearly every category.

How lopsided were the final results? Well, in the voting for Best Movie of 2011, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2" edged out "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" by a margin of 51.55% to 47.99%, with the other four candidates — "Bridesmaids," "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," "The Help" and "The Muppets" — combining for only .46% of the vote.

This just in: People really love "Harry Potter" and "Twilight."

Of course, the heated rivalry between fans of "Harry Potter" and "Twilight" has been raging for years, but with "Harry Potter" coming to an end this year and "Twilight" entering its own twilight, it »

The 5 Worst Movies of 2011

22 December 2011 8:00 AM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

As we established in our list of the 25 Best Movies of 2011, it was a pretty damn good year at the multiplexes.

But in what you are about to read below, well, there is no "good."

We narrowed down a bigger list of the year's most craptastic movies (we'll get you next time, "Sucker Punch," "The Dilemma" and "Beastly") to bring you the 5 very worst of the worst.

5. 'What's Your Number?'

We all thought the hilarious, effervescent Anna Faris was launching the next missile in the "Bridesmaids" duh-women-can-be-funny war with her sex-romp rom-com "What's Your Number?" How wrong we were. What could have been a lighthearted lesson in judging a girl's character before her dating history was actually a monstrosity of outdated slut-shaming. We know: Ultimately, one hot guy was fine with her apparently horrifying 19 one-time sex partners. The shock and dismay of every other character in the movie -- »

Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids) Jennifer Garner (Arthur) Mila Kunis (Friends With Benefits) Cameron Diaz (Bad Teacher) Emma Stone (Crazy, Stupid, Love) Natalie Portman (No Strings Attached) Jennifer Aniston (Horrible Bosses) Anna Faris (What's Your Number?) Movie of the Week

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

The Stars: Robert Downey Jr.Jude LawJared Harris

The Plot: Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Dr. Watson join forces to outwit and bring down their fiercest adversary, Professor Moriarty.

The Buzz: Guy Ritchie’s career has been effectively side-tracked by the Holmes franchise, and I think that’s a good thing. I hope the trend continues. Downey Jr. and Law make for the perfect pair, and though I was disappointed when I learned, months back, that Daniel Day-Lewis had dropped out as Moriarty, I was pleased to »

The Change-up Blu-ray Review

12 December 2011 6:17 AM, PST | | See recent news »

David Dobkin’s The Change-Up arrived earlier this year following a marketing campaign pitched at the level of an out-of-control air siren, made a couple of bucks at the box office, and was then promptly forgotten about until now, when the film hit DVD and Blu-ray.  Admit it:  you didn’t even remember this film came out this year until you saw the title of this review.  You probably didn’t bother seeing it in theaters, but if you did, you’ve blocked it from your memory.  Now that it’s available on home video, you’ve got the option of either A) reliving the magic, or B) seeing Dobkin’s film for the very first time.  Should you?  Find out after the jump, folks. Let’s get straight to it:  I really, really, really didn’t enjoy my time with The Change-Up.  It might be one of my least favorite films of the year. »

Marion Cotillard Offered Role in ‘Arthur & Lancelot’

2 December 2011 5:13 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

It seems that French actress Marion Cotillard has it all: beauty, an Oscar and now the possibility of starring in David Dobkin‘s drama Arthur & Lancelot. According to Vulture, Cotillard has been offered the role of Arthur’s half-sister, Morgana.

If Cotillard accepts the role, she would star along side Kit Harington and Joel Kinnaman in the roles of Arthur and Lancelot respectively. Morgana is also a sorcerer who is typically portrayed as an antagonist, which could see Cotillard returning to her darker roots, something she explored in Inception. There is also a possibility that Gary Oldman may flaunt his acting talents in the adaptation as the iconic wizard Merlin, which could be awesome.

Dobkin, who has also written the screenplay, is most known for directing comedies like Wedding Crashes and The Change-Up, which are all far cries from the fantasy world of the Round Table. There isn’t much »

'Dark Knight Rises' Actress Offered 'Arthur & Lancelot'

2 December 2011 10:23 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Depending upon whether you're a bigger fan of film or television, Marion Cotillard could be the biggest name actor to come to Warner Bros' upcoming "Arthur & Lancelot."

The Academy Award-winning actress has been offered the role of Arthur's sorceress half-sister Morgana, according to Vulture. They're saying that she is now officially in the Warner Bros clubhouse thanks to her roles in "Inception" and "The Dark Knight Rises," which is likely why she's getting first pick at the role.

Cotillard would be joining "Game of Thrones's" Kit Harrington and "The Killing's" Joel Kinnaman as the titular Arthur and Lancelot.

The retelling of the beloved medieval tale was both written and directed by David Dobkin. Not much is known about the film in terms of its content, but apparently it's not going to be very similar to his previous work like "The Change-Up" and "Wedding Crashers."

Marion Cotillard Casts a Spell on 'Arthur & Lancelot'

1 December 2011 4:31 PM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

We've always thought there was something rather enchanting about Marion Cotillard.

The "Contagion" star may have a new gig brewing as she's been offered the role of Morgana in the upcoming fantasy adventure, "Arthur & Lancelot," according to Vulture.

Morgana is a sorceress and the half-sister of King Arthur, who is set to be played by "Game of Thrones" star Kit Harington. Joel Kinnaman of "The Killing" has been set for the role of Lancelot, and Warner Bros. reportedly very much wants Cotillard's "Dark Knight Rises" co-star, Gary Oldman, for the part of the world-famous magician, Merlin.

With offers out to both Cotillard and Oldman, Warner Bros. continues its reputation as one of Hollywood's must "clubby" studios as it usually stcks to a particular group of actors and directors for its projects. Marion Cotillard seems to definitely be a "member" of the WB club after working on "Inception," "Contagion" and "The Dark Knight Rises. »

Blu-ray Review: ‘Flypaper’ Falters With Paper-Thin Characterizations

30 November 2011 5:21 AM, PST | | See recent news »

Chicago – After the not-so-surprising success of the heavily marketed farce “The Hangover,” Jon Lucas and Scott Moore have quickly become Hollywood’s most overrated screenwriters. They specialize in injecting high concepts with frat-boy vulgarity, mean spirited gags and entirely superficial warmth. If Zach Galifianakis hadn’t bolstered “Hangover” with his deadpan genius, the film almost surely would’ve flopped.

Yet while Lucas and Moore borrowed familiar formulas for underwhelming duds like “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” and “The Change-Up,” their “Hangover” admittedly benefited from a clever structure. It allowed moviegoers to join the characters in piecing together the wacky events that occurred during an inebriated night that unfolded offscreen. The writing duo’s very next project was the barely released indie “Flypaper,” which is to “Hangover” what “I Know What You Did Last Summer” was to “Scream.”

Blu-ray Rating: 1.5/5.0

This time, Lucas and Moore work within the standard heist genre, while »

DVD Release Date: Feb. 7, 2012

Price: DVD $30.99

Studio: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment

2008 drama movie Fireflies in the Garden has a whopping cast led by Julia Roberts (Sleeping With the Enemy), Willem Dafoe (Daybreakers) and Ryan Reynolds (The Change-Up) and yet it sat on shelves for years before being released in the U.S.

Inspired by a poem by Robert Frost, the film looks at three generations of the Taylor familyand the dysfunctional relationships between the domineering father (Dafoe) and his novelist son Michael (Reynolds), sister-in-law Jane (Emily Watson of Equilibrium and Hayden Panettiere of Scream 4) and others. Roberts plays Dafoe’s wife, who’s involved in a fatal  accident on the way to a family reunion.

The cast also includes Carrie-Anne Moss (Memento) and Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four).

Rated R, Fireflies in the Garden is the first feature film written and directed by Dennis Lee.

PSA Sunday: Jason Bateman Warns Against the Dangers of Noise Pollution

27 November 2011 8:52 AM, PST | | See recent news »

Sure, you probably know him as the actor playing the straight man in such comedies as Arrested Development, Couples Retreat and The Change-Up, but Jason Bateman was a kid once, too; a kid who hated noise pollution. Actually, from the look on his face in this PSA from 1987, it looks like Bateman hated being woken up to film this idiotic clip for One to Grow On, part of NBC’s Saturday morning lineup. It features a warning against blasting music from your shoulder-mounted boombox in public. It’s also a warning for future generations about the dangers of 1980s music and fashion. Hit the jump to bring the noise and here's our previous PSA Sunday articles. Here he is, fresh from 1987: Bateman was only 18 in 1987. His run on Silver Spoons had ended while his role on Valerie’s Family had just begun. That year, Bateman also starred in a »

Games Of Thrones’ Jon Snow Grabs Another Sword

Games Of Thrones’ Jon Snow Grabs Another Sword

Kit Harrington is picking up the steel one more time, but I’m not talking about him swinging swords in Westeros as Game of Thrones’ Jon Snow. This time around, he’ll be wearing a crown and wielding mighty Excalibur as King Arthur.

Thrones fans don’t need to get upset because Jon Snow is still alive and well (for now) in HBO’s hit series, but Showblitz reveals that Harrington will be the new ruler of Camelot in Arthur and Lancelot. David Dobkin, the director of The Wedding Crashers and The Change-Up, is set to write and direct the film, as well as co-produce with Charles Roven, Richard Suckle and Lionel Wigram.

It might seem weird (and risky) to have the same guy behind The Wedding Crashers at the helm for Arthur and Lancelot, but insiders close to the project say »

Kit Harington is Arthur in WB’s ‘Arthur & Lancelot’

21 November 2011 9:30 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

I've written about the film a couple times and yet I keep forgetting that Warner Bros. is making Arthur & Lancelot, a new take on the oft-filmed Arthurian legend. David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers, The Change-Up) wrote the script, which Warner Bros. bought and chose to film over several other competing takes on the Arthurian story. (Casulaties of the Camelot Crush from early 2011 included [1] Bryan Singer's Excalibur remake and Guy Ritchie's Arthur movie, which had script input from Warren Ellis and John Hodge.) David Dobkin will direct in addition to writing, and just as early reports suggested [2], the lead roles have gone to Game of Thrones' own Jon Snow, Kit Harington, and [3] Joel Kinnaman from The Killing. They'll play Arthur and Lancelot, respectively, in what has been called a contemporary retelling of the tale. But read on to see why that early description of the script seems to be at least slightly off. »

Fred Claus/Wedding Crashers Director Gets Serious with Arthur & Lancelot

21 November 2011 7:30 AM, PST | kidspickflicks | See recent kidspickflicks news »

David Dobkin, the director-producer known for comedies like Fred Claus and Mr. Woodcock (producer) and Rated R Wedding Crashers and most recently The Change-Up, is getting serious for his next film. He'll make the action epic Arthur and Lancelot about King Arthur and his knights of the roundtable including his frenemy Lancelot. Kit Harington ("Game of Thrones," pictured right) as King Arthur and Joel Kinnaman ("The Killing," left) as Sir Lancelot. Sir Lancelot was King Arthur's most trusted knight but who betrayed him by falling in love with his wife, Guinevere. Filming begins on the Warner Brothers film early next year.

Dobkin has been more focused on producing lately, working on the Ryan Reynolds-Kevin Bacon comedy R.I.P.D. and Bryan Singer's fairytale Jack the Giant Killer.

Kit Harington Joins Arthur and Lancelot

19 November 2011 8:04 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Warner Bros. is collecting quite the interesting cast for their upcoming interpretation of the King Arthur legend Arthur & Lancelot. After nabbing The Killing's Joel Kinnaman as Sir Lancelot, they have now cast Game of Thrones' Kit Harington as King Arthur, himself.

This isn't a far stretch for Kit Harington, as he will once again be wielding a sword as he does on the popular HBO series, where he plays bastard Jon Snow. A few scheduling issues need to be worked out on Harington's side, but once those issues are resolved, filming will begin in early 2012.

The movie is being directed by David Dobkin, who is best known for his comedies, like the recent body-switch raunchfest The Change-Up and the extremely popular Wedding Crashers. Plot details for Arthur & Lancelot have yet to be divulged, but it will be a serious, action heavy adventure inline with Braveheart.

Arthur & Lancelot comes to theaters March 15th, »
