Great episode, New Tricks does action;
Sleepin_Dragon13 June 2022
The UCOS team reopen the case of David Scott, after a prostitute comes forward after five years, and claims to have seen a man in the area the night he died.

I loved this episode, I'd argue it's one of the best from this sixth series. It's an imaginative script, with some great characters, fast pacing, and more action sequences than you generally see in the show.

A really great mix of drama and humour, that scene where Jack watches Brian trying out his Spanish, hilarious.

What an awesome cast here, fantastic performances throughout, David Westhead, Claire Rushbrook, Maurice Roeves, very different characters, very different performances, equally brilliant. Perhaps the best thing I've seen Shane Ritchie do, he was great.

Class act, 9/10.

Death of a timeshare salesman
TheLittleSongbird1 February 2018
Have always been a big fan of detective/mystery shows from a fairly young age, well since starting secondary school.

'Inspector Morse', 'A Touch of Frost', 'Midsomer Murders' (in its prime), 'Law and Order', 'Inspector George Gently', 'Criminal Minds', 'Murder She Wrote', you name them to name a few. 'New Tricks' has also been a favourite from the start (despite not being the same without the original cast in recent years). Although it can be corny at times (in an endearing sort of way) it has always been perfect for helping me relax in the evenings. Something that was needed during all the hard times endured in school.

Can say little bad about "Death of a Timeshare Salesman". The supporting cast are not the most inspired while still more than competent. The case is a compelling one, with its fair share of intrigue and surprises.

Visually, "Death of a Timeshare Salesman" is slick and stylish as ever. The music is a good fit and the theme song (sung with gusto by none other by Dennis Waterman himself) is one of the catchiest for any detective/mystery show and of any show in the past fifteen years or so.

Writing is intelligent, thought-provoking and classy, while also being very funny and high up in the entertainment value. This is all mixed adeptly with a seriousness without being overly so that it doesn't feel like 'New Tricks'.

A huge part of 'New Tricks' appeal is the chemistry between the four leads and their performances. The chemistry is so easy going and charming with a little tension.

One of the show's biggest delights is Alun Armstrong, achieves a perfect balance of funny comic timing and touching pathos which was maintained all the way up to his final episode. It is also lovely here to see his role in the team and skills appreciated more all the time. James Bolam's Jack is the quietest, most sensible (mostly) and most composed of the team, with a tragic personal life that Bolam portrays very touchingly without any overwrought-ness.

The only woman on the team, Amanda Redman more than holds her own in what is essentially the boss role of the four. Dennis Waterman brings some nice levity without unbalancing things.

Anthony Calf is always a welcome presence as Strickland.

In conclusion, very, very good, a near-consistent standard for Season 6 (although it stumbled a little with "The Truth is Out There"). 9/10 Bethany Cox

Gold!!

Warning: Spoilers
I love New Tricks and there were quite a few twists in this episode involving an erstwhile escort who becomes a Christian, caught up in the suspected murder of a timeshare salesman. Also gold bars play a role in the conclusion of this episode.

I love it when we see the London landmarks at night and here we see the London Eye all lit up.

Johnny Tevis
racesgirl2000-12 November 2009
This was a great episode since Shane Richie was in it as Johnny Tevis and I hope Johnny shows up more in the next series.

The episode had Shane as Johnny meeting Dennis Waterman as Gerry and James Bolam as Jack and the fact that the team went to solve this case was amazing since it was a bit like a Cold Case episode without the flashbacks.

When former escort girl Alice Hill finds God and decides to confess her sins, the UCOS team find themselves reinvestigating the death of well-known timeshare magnate Dean Scott. But the case takes a remarkable twist when the team link the dead man's business partner to notorious criminal Johnny Tevis.

Case has a twist, but otherwise just o.k.
scsaxe25 April 2022
Former prostitute reopens a case, UCOS investigates, and gets mixed up in a totally different case as a result.

Despite this increase, the main case isn't particularly interesting, though still fun to watch how it all gets resolved. We get to see Jack at work a bit more than the others, as the case intersects with some previous work of his.
