Drew: The Man Behind The Poster Documentary Trailer

20 August 2010 11:15 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Blade Runner, The Thing... the list goes on and on. Drew Struzan is one of the few "names" in movie posters. He is responsible for illustrating some of the most famous posters in cinema history and his work accomplishes what so many other movie posters fail to do, creating images so memorable that they become the key iconography of the films they represent. Frank Darabont, who hired Drew Struzan to create the posters for The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, later based the main character in The Mist on Struzan himself. In fact, The Mist Collector's Edition DVD includes an interesting 7 minute featurette called Drew Struzan: An Appreciation of An Artist. Now, the first trailer for a new feature-length Drew Struzan documentary, entitled Drew: The Man Behind the Poster, has been released. Watch the trailer after the jump: As much as I love his work, »

If you ever hung a movie poster on your wall, there's a reasonable chance that it was by Drew Struzan. One of the more modest panels at Comic Con was for a documentary about the artist, and an extended trailer for Drew: The Man Behind the Poster is now online.Struzan, who George Lucas calls "the only collectible artist since World War 2" (eat that, Charles Saatchi) has painted over 150 movie posters,* including the Back to the Future trilogy, John Carpenter's The Thing, First Blood, the Muppets, Et, The Goonies, Harry Potter, Blade Runner, and of course, Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Plus, there are the game boxes (Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis) and the book covers (Shadows of the Empire, the Indiana Jones spin-offs)... Struzan must be able to draw Harrison Ford from memory with his eyes closed by now.The documentary has been put together by Erik Sharkey, »

Friday Schedule Announced for 2010 San Diego Comic-Con; Highlights Include The Green Hornet, Star Wars Day, The Big Bang Theory, and The Walking Dead

9 July 2010 10:18 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The schedule for Friday, July 23 at San Diego Comic Con 2010 was just released and coming off the heels of a stellar Thursday, it’s a little underwhelming.  However, it leaves plenty of room for fans to be wowed by new material and that’s always a good thing.  Friday is traditionally the second biggest day of the convention, and this year it seems to be the day studios plan to start the hype machines on a some of their upcoming films that are currently flying below the radar. For example, Hall H will feature Drive Angry 3D, Piranha 3D, Skyline, Super, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark and finish up with Sony’s The Other Guys and The Green Hornet. Friday is also Star Wars Day at Comic Con which means there are panels on every aspect of that franchise.

There’s also screenings of Batman: Under the Red Hood, »
