Us DVD & Blu-Ray – New Release Tuesday

30 October 2012 4:26 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

It’s Tuesday, so that means that it is new release day DVD and Blu-Ray wise in the Us and Canada, and there are some absolute belters out this week for your home viewing pleasure.

First up is the surprise gem of 2012 which is currently wowing audiences in theatres in the UK. Ruby Sparks revolves around Paul Dano’s Calvin, a young novelist who manages to bring the girl of his dreams to life through the power of the written word. We caught this at a film showcase a couple of months ago, and instantly fell in love with it. A rom-com-dram to suit most tastes despite its rather predictable and indeed slightly corny climax. Fordy branded it “one of the year’s most endearing efforts: heartfelt, well intentioned, and very nicely constructed…” and I bloody agree with him. A delight.

Again, a film that is still playing in UK cinemas, »

Craigslist Joe Movie Review

Title: Craigslist Joe Director: Joseph Garner A generally agreeable but perhaps hopelessly meandering documentary snapshot of one young guy’s attempt to hit the road for 31 days and live off the alms of America’s new, digital age thrift store, “Craigslist Joe” isn’t the first nonfiction film to throw a light on the namesake popular classified advertising website, but it is the first to arrive with the imprimatur of executive producer Zach Galifianakis. Departing Los Angeles with only $200, his laptop and bookbag, a cellphone, tooth brush and the clothes on his back (oh, and a cameraman — whom he of course met on Craigslist), Garner relies on listings — both his own, and those  [ Read More ] »

Joseph Garner Talks Craigslist Joe, available on iTunes and VOD August 2nd

Available on iTunes and VOD August 2nd, with select screenings around the country, Craigslist Joe is an enthralling and very funny documentary that follows Joseph Garner as he ditches everything to go on a journey fueled and funded solely by the people of Craigslist. Attempting to survive off the goodwill and support of this 21st Century Town Square, Joe spends 31 days traveling America, and the results are nothing short of astounding.

We recently caught up with the director, who places himself in some quite precarious situations, to talk about the film, what it means to our gadget laden culture, and what, exactly, Zach Galifianakis had to do with it all.

Here is our conversation.

It must have been impossible to know what to expect when you set off on this journey. What were your expectations for the project »

New to Theatres This Weekend: Total Recall, The Babymakers, 360

3 August 2012 6:33 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Now that we're into the first week of August, the end of the summer is in sight and the theatrical releases will soon start dropping off in quality. In fact, that drop in quality may have already begun this weekend with Len Wiseman's remake of Total Recall being the only major release along with the third installment in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. In select theatres, we've got 360 from the director of City of God, the Broken Lizard comedy The Babymakers starring Paul Schneider and Olivia Munn, and a handful of documentaries including the Zach Galifianakis-produced Craigslist Joe. It's certainly not the strongest crop of new films, but it will be interesting to see how Total Recall performs and whether loyalty to the original will hold it back. What will you be watching this weekend? Total Recall Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days Soldiers of Fortune »

Trailer For Zach Galifianakis-Produced Doc Craigslist Joe

2 July 2012 4:33 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

In the digital age of Facebook and Twitter, some say we've lost our sense of community. But 29-year-old Joseph Garner wanted to test that. So he set out on a road trip with a laptop and toothbrush, but no money and a cell phone emptied of contacts. How would he eat, find shelter, travel and essentially survive? Why, through the help of Craigslist, the online classified ad site that offers everything from job and apartment listings, to free items, to the totally bizarre. It is here that Garner seeks to discover adventure, and uncover a pocket of American community some feared had been lost. Comedian Zach Galifianakis served as executive producer on the documentary Craigslist Joe, which follows Garner on the highs and lows of his cross-country adventure. Shot during the uncertain time of our most recent economic recession, a camera crew tracked his trip, which lasted 31 days. What did »

Indie Trailer Sunday: Zach Galifianakis Presents 'Craigslist Joe' Doc

1 July 2012 9:55 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"Reality is far stranger than any fiction Hollywood can come up with." Today's worth-watching indie trailer that debuted recently on Apple is for a documentary executive produced by Zach Galifianakis titled Craigslist Joe, about a "regular Joe" named Joe who decided to live entirely off of craigslist. While that sounds a bit goofy at the start, the trailer goes on to show there seems to be a heartwarming, emotional side to this, about how people care for others, as well as the generosity and adventures that come from this kind of social experiment. It looks better than I was expecting, give it a shot, you might find yourself interested. Watch the official trailer for Joseph Garner's documentary Craigslist Joe, in high def via Apple: In a time when America's economy was crumbling and the sense of community was in question, one guy left everything behind to see if he »

Official Trailer and Poster for Craigslist Joe Documentary from Zach Galifianakis

29 June 2012 11:05 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

If you had no money and no personal contacts, could you survive 31 days on nothing but the goodwill of people on Craigslist?  That's the premise for director Joseph Garner's upcoming documentary, Craigslist Joe.  From executive producer Zach Galifianakis, Craigslist Joe follows Garner as he attempts to survive for a month with little more than a backpack, the clothes on his back and personal identification.  He relies on Craigslist for food, shelter, wages and transportation.  Garner wasn't simply in search of an adventure, but rather to discover if a sense of community still existed in this modern era of social media where everyone is connected but communication has lost its intimacy.  The characters he finds along the way are truly stranger than fiction.  Craigslist Joe opens on August 2nd.  Hit the jump for the synopsis, poster and trailer. Here's the synopsis for Craigslist Joe followed by the trailer and poster »
