Luke Evans interview: Dracula Untold, The Hobbit, Statham

1 October 2014 12:42 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Duncan talks to the star of Dracula Untold, Luke Evans, about becoming a vampire, being a Bowman in The Hobbit, and working with Statham...

Nb: This interview contains mild spoilers for Dracula Untold and Fast & Furious 6. The spoiler for Dracula Untold is marked out, so you can avoid it if you want to.

Dracula Untold sees Luke Evans taking his well-deserved lead role in Universal’s big screen re-launch of the most infamous of all vampires, after building up a fine body of work over the course of several years that’s encompassed two of the biggest cinematic franchises to date in two thirds of The Hobbit trilogy and Fast & Furious 6.

In a relatively short time he’s already played two Greek gods, as both Apollo and Zeus in Clash Of The Titans and Immortals respectively, worked with Ridley Scott on Robin Hood, made a standout of his »

V For Vendetta director taking on Alien Sleeper Cell

7 September 2014 10:28 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Alien Sleeper Cell emerges from development hell, as James McTeigue signs up to direct a sci-fi mix of Bourne and The Americans...

This one's been in gestation for a while. But now, James McTeigue, the director of the likes of V For Vendetta, The Raven and Ninja Assassin, has signed on to direct the science fiction thriller Alien Sleeper Cell. A project that was talked about nearly five years ago before things went quiet, it's described as a story that contains elements from The Bourne Identity and the TV show The Americans.

It's an alien invasion movie from writer Morgan Davis Foehl (who's penned Michael Mann's upcoming cyberthriller, Blackhat), and McTeigue is likely to tackle Alien Sleeper Cell as his next project. More as we hear it, because there's not much more information than that around at the moment...

V For Vendetta’s James McTeigue Signs On To Direct Alien Sleeper Cell

5 September 2014 12:52 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The Wachowski’s golden boy, James McTeigue, has joined a new project from a new studio – Alien Sleeper Cell. Doesn’t that title give you the most delightful chills? Alas, it’s got nothing to do with xenomorph Alien franchise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will capture the same tone as The Bourne Identity and TV show The Americans. But in an alien invasion-style set-up. Consider us intrigued!

While there’s scant details about Alien Sleeper Cell, it’s known that McTeigue will direct the flick from a script by up-and-comer Morgan Davis Foehl. Foehl just completed work on Michael Mann’s Cyber script. As it stands now, new production outfit Scanbox Studios are currently putting together financing and brokering international deals for the pic. Prime Universe Films’ Adrian Askarich who recently finished work on Fox’s Hitman: Agent 47 will co-produce, and Felipe Linz will join as executive producer. »

Eve has also been linked to her 1:30 Train co-star Chris Evans. The actors were spotted out on a dinner date in New York City in December 2013, but neither party confirmed that they were dating.

Criminal Adds Alice Eve To Its Cast

8 August 2014 10:36 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Ariel Vromen’s next film – Criminal – is shaping up to be proof positive of the filmmaker’s ability to attract fascinating casting combinations. Where his previous movie – 2012’s The Iceman – featured Michael Shannon, Chris Evans, James Franco, Winona Ryder, Ray Liotta and David Schwimmer, his forthcoming venture is bringing in names even more legendary in nature.

The plot centres around a dangerous criminal, who is tasked by the CIA to complete a dead agent’s mission after they implant that agent’s memories and experiences into his brain. Kevin Costner will feature in the leading role, with Ryan Reynolds, Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Oldman also signing up. By anyone’s standards, that’s quite a lot of testosterone, so we now have the announcement that Alice Eve will also co-star.

Having built a solid foundation for herself in recent years, with supporting roles in films such as The Raven, »

Resurrection: The Complete First Season DVD Review

26 June 2014 6:48 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Resurrection Season One DVD Review

Resurrection seems like the epitome of a series that didn’t expect to last past the first four episodes. When I wrote my original review of the show, and gave it a high rating, I said the show’s great weakness to that point was that it didn’t seem to want to commit to how weird it was going to be. It creates an opening within the first few episodes that leave viewers unable to be confident that it is about to lean toward the very weird, or toward an almost straight, “normal” drama that just happens to involve very abnormal events.

That isn’t even a problem in one sense, because not knowing where things are going isn’t a bad theory. Where it becomes tricky is insofar as viewers want to know just how goofy the twists and turns are apt to become. »

Oculus - Special Screening Report and Photos

9 April 2014 8:30 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The stars of the upcoming new and original horror movie Oculus (review) gathered on the red carpet at the Chinese 6 Theater at the famous “Hollywood & Highland” corner to celebrate its premiere – and Dread Central was there!

Some folks say the poster is a little ambiguous so if you haven’t seen our junket video or read our review yet… here’s the scary skinny:

When teenage Kaylie’s younger brother, Tim, was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents, she made it her life’s mission to prove the law was wrong. She believes their deaths were at the supernatural hands of forces unleashed through an eerie antique in their home, The Lasser Glass. Tracing the provenance of the oversized mirror, adult Kaylie tracks it to an auction house, where she purchases it, and with the help of recently released Tim, she takes history’s reflections head-on. Grand Piano review: not enough notes

8 April 2014 3:35 PM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

Builds up a good momentum of suspense only to throw it away on a rushed and powerfully unsatisfying ending, rendering all its preposterousness suddenly unforgivable. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

World-famous classical concert pianist Tom Selznick (Elijah Wood: The Wind Rises, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) hasn’t been in front of an audience in five years, after a performance went, apparently, so disastrously wrong that classical music nerds are still talking about it. But his movie star wife, Emma (Kerry Bishé: The Fitzgerald Family Christmas, Argo), has arranged a comeback. And as if Tom weren’t already nervous enough, when he opens his sheet music — you know, the kind that I’m pretty sure world-famous classical concert pianists don’t use onstage in the same way that actors onstage don’t »

Exclusive: 10 Questions with Garrett Ryan of Oculus

1 April 2014 7:00 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

In the upcoming horror movie Oculus (review), Garret Ryan is relentlessly tormented by Katee Sackhoff. Not a bad gig, right? But let me tell you… this is not the sexy Starbuck "Battlestar Galactica" Sackhoff...

...and it’s certainly not the glamour gal of magazine fashion spreads and red carpet events…

In Oculus the buxom blonde is reduced to a frothing, clawing, lunatic mom who’s out to kill her daughter, Kaylie (Annalise Basso), and son, Tim (Ryan); and she will stop at nothing.

When it comes to life vs. death, Tim must take matters into his own hands. But just because crazy-mom is dead, it doesn’t mean she’s gone!

Read on to see what Garrett has to say about that and more.

Dread Central: We'd love to know all about Oculus -- who do you play, and what's the story?
