Plot Summary

  • DAfter S Tony Shap is hailed as a "super cop" by his co-workers, he begins a separate rogue investigation of the stabbing murder of an illegal Belarusian immigrant who worked for a sordid private detective agency. He also crosses an ethical line when he becomes involved with another Belarussian illegal, a beautiful girl who was an associate of the dead man. Janine is distracted by her son's school truancy and hostility toward her and the prospect of leaving the team via promotion. Key to the investigation is the wife of an ex-cop now running a shady taxi service. She was abused by an ex-husband, who is now free after serving eight years for her attempted murder.

  • DCI Jeanine Lewis and the team investigate the murder of a Belorussian know locally as Pete Williams who is found in a car park, stabbed in the neck. He worked for Paul Faber at a detective agency focusing mostly on marital or prenuptial cases. DC Tony Shap, basking in the glow of having been the lead officer in a major case, goes off on his own and uses Williams' partner Tanya Lucas to get him information but he gets involved with her. The evidence points them to Terry Camerton who has just been released from prison and who was being followed by Williams. Jeanine meanwhile faces a major problem at Tom's school when she learned he's been missing classes and forging notes supposedly from her explaining why.
