Well, that was fast. Just one day after Fast & Furious helmer Justin Lin signed on to direct Star Trek 3, Paramount Pictures has set a release date for the anticipated threequel. Fans should mark their calendars for July 8th, 2016, two month’s before Star Trek‘s fiftieth anniversary.
It’s been an unexpectedly rocky road for Star Trek 3 since J.J. Abrams, who helmed 2009’s Star Trek and 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, jumped ship to take the reins on a different sci-fi franchise in a galaxy far, far away. Producer Roberto Orci campaigned hard to land the gig, which would have been his directorial debut. After eventually landing the job, though, he was sacked over creative differences earlier this month.

Just one day after Paramount Pictures brought on director Justin Lin to replace the departing filmmaker Roberto Orci on Star Trek 3, the studio has issued a July 8, 2016 release date for the highly-anticipated sequel. This means that the sequel will coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the original Star Trek TV series. As of now, Star Trek 3 doesn't have any direct competition in its new release slot, but it will debut one week after DreamWorks' The Bfg and Warner Bros.' Tarzan on July 1, 2016, and one week after Fox's Ice Age 5 and Universal's Untitled Jason Bourne Sequel on July 15, 2016.
No story details have been confirmed at this point, especially after reports surfaced that Paramount scrapped the script which was being worked on by Roberto Orci and new writers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. Roberto Orci still remains on board as a producer, although it isn't clear if Paramount is »
Just one day after the hacker group Guardians of Peace (G.O.P.) threatened a 9/11 attack on movie theaters showing The Interview, Sony Pictures has announced today that they are pulling the comedy from theaters. This comes just hours after an unconfirmed report revealed that Sony is considering a premium VOD release for the comedy, after a majority of theater chains decided not to show the film, which was scheduled for release on Christmas Day. Take a look at the official statement from Sony Pictures below.
In light of the decision by the majority of our exhibitors not to show the film The Interview, we have decided not to move forward with the planned December 25 theatrical release. We respect and understand our partners' decision and, of course, completely share their paramount interest in the safety of employees and theater-goers. Just one day after Camille Cosby released a statement in support of her husband, Bill Cosby, the youngest of the couple’s four daughters issued a statement to “Access Hollywood” addressing the recent storm of sexual assault allegations levied against her father.
Cosby also took to her Facebook page to voice her strong opinion on rape, following the list of accusations against the comedian. The statements from family members after weeks of silence are likely a sign that Cosby’s legal and PR teams are attempting to mount a defense to the disturbing accusations that have snowballed since early November against the entertainer.

With the Golden Globe nominations revealed on Thursday, the awards season race is heating up for 2014's big screen stars. Just one day after the Screen Actors Guild announced its contenders, awards front-runners are emerging while some hopefuls are falling behind. We're breaking down this year's Globes snubs and surprises and what it means for that little gold man at the end of the finish line.
Pics: And the Golden Globe Nominees Are...
First up, let's talk surprises.
Quevenzhane Wallis: The pint-sized actress may have scored an Oscar nom in 2013 for her breakout role in Beasts of the Southern Wild, but few expected to see the 11-year-old as a serious awards contender this year. Sure, she's got chops, but we were surprised that Sony's musical Annie gave her award-worthy material. (Also surprising: this marks Wallis' first Globes nom – she was not nominated for Beasts.)
Ava DuVernay: File this under delightful surprises! DuVernay's [link=tt »

When a 22-year-old University of Chicago student went to work at Nordstrom on Black Friday last week, which also happened to be her birthday, it should have just been a busy day at work followed by quality time with her family. Instead, while working in the accessories department, her ex-boyfriend walked in, "exchanged words" with her, shot her and then turned the gun on himself, authorities say, according to ABC. What has now come to light are court documents that reveal that the killer, Marcus Dee, 31, had a long history of reported abuse with the victim, Nadia Ezaldein, and that »

Bridget Stokes and Vicky Wight’s Instant Pictures has acquired film rights to Katherine Center’s 2013 novel “The Lost Husband,” and is set to partner with 8th Day Pictures on a feature film production.
The novel from author and essayist Center follows Libby Moran, a recently widowed mother of two forced to move back in with her mother, who receives a letter from a presumed-crazy aunt offering her a place to stay and, more importantly, refuge from her mother.
Center was named a writer to watch by BookPage.com for her 2007 debut “The Bright Side of Disaster,” which was optioned by Varsity Pictures.
Wight and Stokes will produce the film alongside 8th Day Pictures’ Glenn German and Adam Rodgers, the pair behind this year’s “At Middleton,” starring Vera Farmiga and Andy Garcia. The team is planning to begin production in May 2015.
