Everything you would expect from Seth MacFarlane.
DarkVulcan2915 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I saw both Ted movies, that starred Mark Wahlberg, and Seth MacFarlane has the voice of Ted, both had Family Guy like humor, funny and very edgy. And now it's a T. V. show, and I wonder how are they going to pull this off?

It's surprisingly a prequel, set in the early 90's, showing John has a teenager and Ted, there day to day misadventures. The show takes those family sitcom heartwarming moments and turns them on it's head. If you watched Family Guy and American Dad you'll know what to expect here. The cast play there parts very well, you can clearly see there all having fun. I hope this will last a while.

This is exactly what we need at times like this. The comedy is brilliant. You hear jokes which are rarely said these days. The writing and acting are quite good. They created a backstory in the best way possible. The new characters are also relatable. And I think the casting couldn't have been better except for John's dad who although is does an amazing job but I get a Bill Burr vibe from.

Still, I don't think episode six was necessary. That's not what Ted is about. The episode felt a bit off as if they were forced to make one with this concept. We are seeing enough of this in stories in the present time, I don't think we need it in stories from the 90s as well.

Overall, I enjoyed the show so much and I believe it has the potential for at least another 3 seasons which I seriously hope we get. Seth McFarlane has a great mind and is definitely able to extend this beautiful story. We all need more shows like this where the comedy is the focus.

Surprisingly not bad
AlienRefugee16 January 2024
I went in expecting this to be pretty crap, but it's not bad at all. It's nothing revolutionary and I can't say I've had anything more than a "sensible chuckle" but it's actually alright. Sometimes the jokes fall flat, but it's not too awkward or cringeworthy like most modern American sitcoms are (in my opinion at least) Sometimes it's a bit stupid and the jokes become so crude that they're unnecessary, which is definitely down to bad writing but if you don't go in with high hopes and stick with it, you won't be disappointed.

Overall, its nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be and the trailers don't giv it justice, so win win!

Hilarious
Rob133115 January 2024
I've been looking forward to Ted ever since I first heard about it. Then I saw the trailers and my excitement grew even more. After just finishing it I can say without a doubt that Ted definitely lived up to my expectations. The two Ted movies are two of my favorite comedies of the last 15 years. I also love Family Guy so this type of humor is right up my alley. I laughed so much during this show that I had to rewatch it twice because I missed parts from laughing so much. I really hope this isn't a limited series and that they plan on doing more seasons. If you liked the Ted movies or are a fan of Seth MacFarlane then I highly recommend this.

I Love Ted
Supermanfan-1327 January 2024
As someone who loves just about everything Seth MacFarlane does it's not surprising that I absolutely loved this Ted series. MacFarlane is back as the voice of Ted and he's as funny as ever. This series takes place 20 years before the movie, back in 1993. Ted is just coming off all the fame and tries to live a normal life with his owner/best friend, John Bennett, who wished Ted to life. Max Burkholder does a good job as John Bennett. He even gets his voice to sound like a young Mark Wahlberg. While Ted is the star here and there are plenty of other funny people, the other stand out here is Scott Grimes as John's father. You might know Grimes from another MacFarlane series called The Orville (another good show). I loved the movies so I was hoping this wouldn't be a let down. It's not. It's as funny as the movies were. I can't wait to watch this all the way through again.

In an era without good comedy, Ted looks like the best comedy show to ever exist
nickbatemansports16 January 2024
I'm not saying this is the best comedy show to ever grace our lives, if it came out in 2010 it would've been viewed as just another good comedy, but in 2024 it hits soooooooooooo different. I heard and saw nothing about it, not even a commercial, it just popped up on my peacock recommended and I said sure why not. I expected to moderately enjoy it and maybe even turn it off after 1 episode but then I found myself questioning reality when I audibly laughed at most of the jokes until around 30 minutes into episode 1 where I realized it's actually just a brilliantly written and acted hilarious show. It only got better after that and I highly suggest anyone in need of a laugh to watch this. Hoping and praying we get a season 2!

More please
Meco1216 January 2024
Wasn't fully sure what to expect from this but honestly it was pretty awesome!

Seth McFarlane really did not disappoint here! I will say this though although the main protagonists are TED and Jonny for me personally the Dad complete stole the show ! If you have seen the show you will know exactly what I mean Scott Grimes I salute you. So freaking hilarious !

I read somewhere Seth would bring us a season 2 depending on popularity and audience requirements. Which judging by the reviews on the page may make it a high possibility!

Comedy gold this show so if you wondering whether to give it a go I suggest you do.

HEAR ME OUT

Warning: Spoilers
The show itself and the context of the show is hilarious. However the casting is kind of disappointing. The girl who plays Blaire, I cannot stand to see her on the screen. Her acting is SO bad, it's physically painful to watch. However Seth MacFarlane is hilarious which makes up for her horrible acting. Otherwise show is very funny but also cheesy. I would love to see a return of the dump truck. That was the funniest part of the whole show. The casting is still odd though. The dad has red hair and the mom has brown hair, and the son has black hair. I was a bit confused in the beginning of the show, especially with Blaire being a cousin as well.

WE NEEDED THIS
mecanik-144716 January 2024
I've been eagerly anticipating anything related to Ted for quite some time, and finally, it's here. The world truly needed this. It's not just a show; it's a breath of fresh air, a beacon of hope in a world that often seems to lack it. The characters are rich and full of depth, each episode unfolds like a well-crafted story, leaving you wanting more. It's not just entertainment; it's an experience that stays with you long after the credits roll. The humor, the warmth, the life lessons - it's all there, beautifully interwoven. I am fervently hoping for many more seasons to come. This isn't just a show; it's a phenomenon that deserves to be cherished and celebrated.

As you expected.....
okpilak16 January 2024
Ah, a sweet talking innocent show that looks back in to a gentler time, when John Bennett was just a junior in high school. Except there was little sweet talk nor innocence whenever Ted came on scene. But it really is precisely what one would expect from Seth MacFarlane. A brash, know-it-all Ted who can't keep his mouth shut, and a rather interesting family. The mother is a hoot, and the father certainly has his share of issues. But it does capture a lot of teenage angst of life in high school. And John has that certain awkwardness that plays very well, as Ted is really his only friend. I viewed all seven episodes, and am looking forward to another season. Who will forget the teacher who unloads all his personal problems on his students, or the ER doctor who wishes the Aladdin movie was never made?

Brilliant 2024 comedy
brandonmckay816 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Just finished the whole season & really loved this. The family dynamic is great, really capturing the transition in the 90's from the old ways vs new with Blaire. The way John & Ted bounce off each other is, just like the movies, perfectly timed & hilariously done. The casting of Matty & Susan was perfect for their roles. Enjoyed the nods to the films with showing how they started smoking weed & the f u Thunder song. If you enjoyed the movies you're going to enjoy the TV show as MacFarlane's humour is very specific. Ted Season 1 shows potential & with the growth to Matty's character later in the season it could continue to deliver entertaining content in possible future seasons.

It's great when it doesn't want to shove social justice down your throat
aldo-apachi3 February 2024
Great show, hope to see season two. I also hope they get enough EGS score that they'll stop with social justice GAI stuff, because none of it is natural, needed, or even time applicable. Show is set in 1993 and I sure as hell know none of these topics were being discussed back then in normal suburban households.

60% of show is fun, 40% is about how men suck and being GAI is great.

There's a literal shot of a husband, who works 60 hour shifts and is a sole provider in the whole family being handed a sandwich from his wife, like he's a schmuck and expects other people to do thing for him.

But, you know, Seth has sold his soul long time ago, or maybe he gave it to the cute Teddy bear who is absolute star of the show. If you liked movies, you're going to like the show, just gotta numb your brain for that progressive BS.

it has its moments
cokeboyjemz14 January 2024
This show is very good it's everything you'd expect of McFarlane type humor if it could just change one thing it would be the niece id really think the show would do just fine without her or even better. She comes off as whiney and a know it all And Just felt like some random character that was forced upon us She is completely unrelatable also her character is random Since we never saw her in any of the Ted movies Episode 6 was the Worst Episode and pretty much ruined the show for me I dont care if they make a season 2 or not after that episode aside from that everything and everyone are great.

American Dad/Family Guy 2.0!!!
WatchAndSmile14 January 2024
What do you take by mixing American Dad with Family Guy then add more dark humor and adult language? You get THIS!!

Yes, not for everyone, but if you enjoy dark humor, jokes that make you shake your head in exclamation of "they didn't just say that" then this is for you.

I wish this would be an on going TV show I can watch every week. I absolutely loved it. The episode 2 was probably the most disturbing out of all of them and I LOVED IT.

If you read a bad review, it's probably from those who expected a cute story about a teddy bear and a boy and completely missed the concept.

PS. I'd love to have Jim Carr involved in the future episodes. He is so good and I think they both can come up with some amazing episodes.

Great show
joshboyjcjc16 January 2024
My only review is that this show was over so damm quick. This is the most fun I've had With a comedy show in so long. Couldn't stand the rubbish we got today that isn't funny, and teen. This show is for Seth fans, and the humour is top notch, ted is great as always. The guy who plays as young John was absolutely funny. The address who played as blaire was great too, I thought I would be annoyed by her character, but she was a funny and well written character. The parents are absolutely hilarious, and they have some funny scenes together. Hopefully the success of this show might spawn more seasons, bring out so many seasons, watching John and ted grow up, I'd be all for it. 7 episodes does feel low, but I get that they kept it low incase it failed, but this was brilliant, hopefully we get a season 2 with more episodes, and more seasons.

Can't wait for season 2
dfrantz-9441316 January 2024
Seth did a great job of lining up the story line and making it feel like I was watching an extension of the movies, many of these TV shows that are based off of the movie tend to have some type of issue with the characters, this one hits it out of the park with the young version of johnny and Ted, not only can I not wait for the 2nd season, I really think this show could be one of the next greats, like family guy, American dad, or the simpsons.

The way Seth makes the characters almost come alive is and has always been one of my favorite traits of his shows. The acting in this show is great and the actors casted fit their rolls perfectly, this show is relatable and gives a recognizable feel to it.

ALF meets That 70s show
maxalonso-3544414 January 2024
I don't know if i'm the only one that feels like this show is a mixture of the show ALF with That 70s Show, and it works! The magical/extraterrestrial funny sidekick character along with the 90s nostalgia setting gives off the 70s show vibes. Seth MacFarlane gives a great and funny performance very much like in the movies. I do hope that they focus more on funny stuff than some political stuff that's sprinkled throughout the show, not because i agree with it or not, just cause i prefer it to be more comedic than a social commentary.

Anyways, i hope it gets a second season and continue to improve on this very good start!

Bursts Out of the Gate, Winning, until episode 5.
rochfordsimon22 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Some hilarious gags and jokes in this series. Laughed aloud many times. The TV show is better than Ted 2.

Like South Park, it takes shots at everyone and in a brilliantly funny way. The characters are all flawed and it's all part of the charm.

This storyline is set in the early1990s. Come Episode 5 and the agenda kicks in. It becomes an Us versus Them situation. So modern/present day society and social issues become the main focus! Why? Very frustrating. I was enjoying it up until this nonsense. There must be some kind of contract clause in all new tv shows!!

Anyway, it has a lot of simple production values and sarcasm that make it warm and cuddly.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Amazing
joe-269721 January 2024
The writing is beyond words. Amazing.

Acting is great. Story is fantastic

My one and only complaint: there are only 7 episodes and they say it's a mini series

I WANT MORE!!!

I enjoyed this show so much I watched it twice.

The quips. One liners. I love Ted!

Rarely is a TV series better than the original movies. This one breaks that rule. It's so much better. (Sorry. Whalberg: I think you are super talented but...)

Max does an amazing job. He is so grown up since the Parenthood series. Does a great job acting. His banter with Ted (MacFarlane) is amazing.

The dad (Grimes) is amazing. Grimes is so funny I. The show. Love his character (and his dump truck LOL)

Mom is too funny. This has to be Ubach's. EST performance ever.

Whigham as Blaire does a beyond amazing job as the supporting actor that truly balances out Ted and John. The trio could easily do improv with their skills and nail it.

Non stop comedy. Grounded to reality. And so against the agendas of the day, this show truly represents the comic relief that society needs to chill out and just be who you are.

Do i recommend this show? Absolutely

That's why i have watched it twice already.

@MacFarlane: please bring back more seasons of this. I think this could be your most successful franchise yet.

Modern Day All In The Family
fleck05IMDB28 March 2024
Yes, there are American Dad crossovers, but let's go back to the 1972 origins... All In The Family. A hard-working bigot dad, the lovable yet gullible mom, and the insufferable college student convinced she knows best in spite of zero life experience. The formula worked in the 70's, it works now - it's a fun setup for conflict. The only area they start losing me is when they use today's vocabulary for the 1990's - it's the ongoing effort to normalize the insane vocabulary academia and NPR throw at society. (I took college biology in the 1990's when they taught XX and XY chromosomes.) Outside of the ridiculous politics Hollywood can't stop throwing in audiences faces, Ted is mostly funny. If you liked the humor of the movie Ted, you'll enjoy most parts of the series.

It's okay but sometimes forgets it's set in the 90s
hellybaybee11 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It has amusing moments but not a roll on the floor laughing kind of funny. It irritates me that there are a lot of references which wouldn't make sense in 1993 for example the dad apologises for his racism after calling an Indian girl a terrorist which wasn't really something ignorant people would say before 9/11 or when the cousin refers to her sexuality as "fluid" - who said that before 2015? And there's loads more. I sometimes get a bit sick of Seth mcfarlanes virtue signalling is some areas while he's perfectly happy being a bigot in others (ie his boring Irishman "jokes" - they went out with the ark mate). That being said there are amusing moments and I think the 90s is a good setting to contrast traditional old fashioned thinking with more progressive mindsets which naturally lends itself to amusing moments. There are the good comedy moments which you would expect with Ted and shows like family guy and American dad. Worth a watch but probably not mcfarlanes finest work.

when one single character ruins the whole show...
feritciva17 January 2024
Unfortunately this show is one big disappointment compared to the movies - especially the first movie. Yes Ted is great as usual, yes their relationship with young John is great, yes Matty is a hilarious character, but...

... there is one character here that ruins everything, that is unbelieveably antipathetic & annoying - and also played by a very antipathetic actress. This "woke" character is so out of place for 1993 that it was like a torture to endure her. This show would be a hit if it wasnt for her, but now its an annoying preachy-nonsense. It's like somebody somewhere despised both Ted movies and decided to ruin it with woke-pc nonsense which Ted's original crude humor has nothing to do with...

Seth MacFarlane hits another home run, again.
SpaceEskimo11 January 2024
I'm excited to see Seth reuiniting with Scott "Gordan" Grimes, Penny "Dr. Finn" Jerald and Giorgia "Lysella" Whigham from "The Orville" which IMO was prematurely canceled. It's the same type of humor from that show, Family Guy, American Dad, Ted and Ted 2 and so if you're a fan of those it's probably safe to say that you'll enjoy this one as well. Hiring Max Burkholder to portray the character of John Bennett was such a brilliant move and he's pulled the role off to perfection. He sounds exactly like a young Mark Wahlberg would have sounded with the Boston accent and quick witted humor. The entire cast have great chemistry together and it doesn't hurt that they are all naturally funny people.

Best thing Seth Macfarlane has done in years!!!
drinkycrowmedicineshow20 January 2024
Best thing Seth Macfarlane has done in years!!! Seriously funny, definitely his style of comedy but the writers really show some diversity rarely seen in family guy or the other cartoons he's made in the past. I personally laughed more at this show than both previous movies. I enjoyed both but at least the show didn't have a hate crime committing bigot in it so that definitely helps the story. Alanna Ubach, Scott Grimes, Max Burkholder & Giorgia Whigham are all absolutely fantastic & hilarious!!! The accents are awful for sure but it honestly just adds to the hilarity of it all. Very well written, not watered down or stale like some of his older shows. Hope to get more of this show. I definitely put it off because I thought I wouldn't enjoy it but couldn't cut it off once I started watching. Check it out!

BAD REVIEWS are SO INCORRECT
xjqdmrsfx12 January 2024
To say it's the worst comedy ever or the worst acting is so over the Top. Is it a 10? No!!! But a 8? Yes. The show works because they brought back Seth McFarlane as the voice of TED. He and the kid play off each other just like Wahlberg did in Ted 1. Each person holds their own and the way society accepts Ted. Just like he's normal and he's part of society. Ted's jokes or 1 liners are just right on and everyone just kind of goes with the flow . Each episode is each own and each one is brilliant. Especially episode 2 with the missing Dad. The music is right on and perfect for the show. Everyone knows Ted's back story. So just stream it in a day and you won't be disappointed .
