Ten Things You Didn’t Know About ‘The Lorax’

I’m going to hope and assume that a lot of you reading this remember The Lorax. It was one of Dr. Seuss’s best books in my opinion and while the original story might not have had quite as much material as was put into the movie the film was something quite special all the same. It has the same message that’s been given throughout the last few decades but it still manages to bring it up and then show the devastation that comes from not replacing what was taken from nature. The Lorax is the bearer of the warning that

The Grinch Poster Remembers the Villain's Innocent Early Years

The first poster for 2018's The Grinch is here. We've known about this movie for a long time, but details on this holiday classic retake have been pretty scarce. However, with this year's holiday season in full swing, the folks at Illumination Entertainment and Universal have finally given us a little something to chew on in the form of the first poster for The Grinch. Surprisingly, he's looking pretty tame, but they warn that it won't last.

"He gets meaner. See #TheGrinch in theaters Holiday 2018."

The Grinch tells the story of a green, grumpy figure who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl's generous holiday spirit. This heartwarming tale about the spirit of Christmas is beloved as a Dr. Seuss story, but really became a holiday staple when it was presented in animated form in How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Illumination Entertainment’s The Grinch gets a new poster

Just in time for the holiday season, Illumination Entertainment has released a new poster for The Grinch, next year’s animated retelling of Dr. Seuss’ classic tale How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which features a young version of the titular character, voiced in the movie by Benedict Cumberbatch.

The Grinch will be the second Dr. Seuss tale adapted for the big screen by Illumination after 2012’s The Lorax. Pete Candeland is making his feature directorial debut on the movie alongside Yarrow Cheney (The Secret Life of Pets) and the film is set for release on November 9th 2018.

Ed Helms Returns to Comedy Central With a Mission: Making ‘Fake News’ Fake Again — Turn It On Podcast

Ed Helms Returns to Comedy Central With a Mission: Making ‘Fake News’ Fake Again — Turn It On Podcast
It took “fake news” to bring Ed Helms back to Comedy Central. Since leaving “The Daily Show” in 2006, Helms has found plenty of success as a comedic actor in both TV and film, starting with “The Office,” and then, of course, “The Hangover” trilogy and a successful voice over career in animated hits like “The Lorax” and “Captain Underpants.”

But Helms missed his time satirizing the news, especially given his experience working alongside legendary talent like Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell, Samantha Bee, and many more. Now he’s back behind the desk, at least for one night, as the fictional host of Comedy Central’s “The Fake News with Ted Nelms.”

“I’ve just been missing being a part of the media commentary world ever since I left ‘The Daily Show,’ Helms said. “I really feel back in the saddle in a way. It’s really scratching that itch.

Despicable Me 3 Crosses $1 Billion at the Worldwide Box Office
While the summer box office season was the worst on record since 2006, there were a few bright spots in the mix, one of which was Universal and Illumination's animated sequel Despicable Me 3. While the movie is likely close to winding down its box office run, it did manage to cross an important box office milestone, reaching the coveted $1 billion worldwide mark earlier today. It became just the third movie this year to cross the milestone, and just the first to do so after being released during the summer movie season, which is yet another indication of how weak this summer truly was.

Deadline broke the news earlier today, with the Despicable Me sequel joining just Universal's The Fate of the Furious ($1.23 billion) and the year's top grossing movie domestically and worldwide, Beauty and the Beast ($1.26 billion). Despite having strong showings, even hits like Wonder Woman and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Interview, Audio: Actress Jenny Slate Answers the Call in ‘Landline’

Chicago – Jenny Slate keeps getting more high profile, both in voiceover work (“The Secret Life of Pets”) and as an actress. Her latest film is “Landline,” her second with director Gillian Robespierre. In the film, Slate portrays an engaged-to-be-married “adult” who is having trouble coming to terms with her life.

Landline” is set in 1990s New York City, just before the tech/mobile phone boom and the loss of grit in the Big Apple. Based on the growing-up experiences of Gillian Robespierre and co-writer Elisabeth Holm, the story is about transitions… Slate’s character to adulthood, the last days of being a teenager for her sister Ali (Abby Quinn) and the dissolution of their parent’s marriage (as portrayed by Edie Falco and John Turturro). It has a bit of a “slamming doors” edge to it, as misunderstandings and family connections blend into a very human story. Slate and Robespierre

First Look at Benedict Cumberbatch's The Grinch

First Look at Benedict Cumberbatch's The Grinch
It's been over a year since Benedict Cumberbatch was confirmed to be voicing the title role in Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas, a feature length animated reboot of the classic holiday tale. Today, we get a first look at the grumpy green Grinch intent on taking over Christmas. And word that the title has been greatly reduced to just two short words, better for fitting on a marquee.

Now simply called The Grinch, this first look at the CG-animated family holiday comedy comes courtesy of License Global magazine via Coming Soon. The movie will be directed by Peter Candeland and Yarrow Cheney and now has a release date of November 9, 2018. The tag line simply reads as such.

"Stealing Christmas 2018."

Jim Carrey starred in the original live-action movie adaptation of The Grinch way back in 2000, with the new take coming 18 years after the comedian nearly walked off the set

How ‘The Boss Baby’ Became Top Dog at the Box Office

Release dates are sometimes more interesting than their movies.

The simple answer for how a movie like The Boss Baby opens at number one is that it’s a major studio animated feature debuting in late March. Specific to this movie, however, there are certain special circumstances, like Beauty and the Beast finally dropping enough to give something else a shot and Ghost in the Shell being a flop, possibly due to its whitewashing casting controversy and possibly just due to its just not being very good.

March is a tricky month for movie releases. With Easter having an unfixed date falling either in March or April, there’s sometimes a holiday weekend, albeit not one typically known for moviegoing. Also, much of America’s children have a spring break, yet there’s no uniformity from county to county within any given state let alone across the country (many states and school districts also wait until April

Review: ‘Sing’ Doesn’t Just Play The Standards, It Lowers Them

Review: ‘Sing’ Doesn’t Just Play The Standards, It Lowers Them
Before we talk about “Sing,” let’s talk about Satan. Remember the scene in “Broadcast News” when Albert Brooks tries to convince Holly Hunter that her handsome new crush is Lucifer? She dismisses him, but Brooks is undeterred. He argues that the most insidious thing about true evil is that it comes to you like a wolf in sheep’s clothing, that the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist. “He’ll never do an evil thing! He will just bit by little bit lower our standards where they are important. Just coax along flash over substance.”

I’m semi-serious here. Born from the blood money earned by 20th Century Fox atrocities like “Alvin and the Chipmunks” and “Horton Hears a Who!,” Illumination Entertainment has been working toward a movie this cynical and creatively bankrupt since “Ice Age” executive producer Chris Meledandri founded
