Chris Renaud on animation, getting trailers right, Gru in Despicable Me and The Secret Life Of Pets...

Heading into cinemas later this year is the new film from Illumination Entertainment, The Secret Life Of Pets. Director Chris Renaud previously brough us Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2 and The Lorax, and The Secret Life Of Pets lands on June 24th in the UK. Following the release of the new trailer for the film, Renaud spared us some time for a chat about the movie's progress.

Here's that new trailer first, to whet your appetite...

And here's how the interview went...

How far along are you with the production? Is it finished now?

We have a bit to go. We’ve probably got about another eight weeks of animation – roughly – so that’s kind of the most active part of production, obviously. And then we’ll be finishing lighting and rendering beyond that. »

"We can find our way home - we are descended from the mighty wolf. We have raw primal instincts that are moments away from leading us home." Universal has released another brand new, full-length trailer for Illumination Entertainment's upcoming animated movie The Secret Life of Pets, about what your pets do when you leave for work every day. We've already featured one official trailer for this previously as well as the holiday teaser, but this trailer dives more into the story and all of the characters/animals we'll meet in this movie. The main voices include Louis C.K., Kevin Hart, Lake Bell, Ellie Kemper, Jenny Slate and Eric Stonestreet. This does look fun and I'm sure it's going to be a big hit with audiences of all ages. Here's the second official trailer for Illumination's The Secret Life of Pets, direct from YouTube: For their fifth fully-animated feature-film collaboration, Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me, »

The Secret Life Of Pets' Story Comes to Light in New Trailer!

28 January 2016 9:31 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

So far actual plot of The Secret Life Of Pets has been a bit of a mystery. It's been largely going off the whole "what do pets do when their owners leave?" gimmick. And while that's all well and good, a film can't survive on a gimmick for too long. The teaser and trailer we've seen thus far, while charming and cute enough to sell to the target audience, haven't done much to tell us about what the movie will actually be about.

Now, with the second trailer, we finally know what story the filmmakers are trying to tell.

Check out the trailer below!

From what we can gather from the trailer, The Secret Life Of Pets tells the story of Max, a dog who's more than content with the life that's been given to him. But that perfect life is dashed to pieces when his owner brings home another dog named Duke. »
