A spouse's death
15 August 2009 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Monk encounters a man from Nigeria whose wife was killed by a hit and run driver in front of Monk's apartment building. Monk befriends the distraught man, and soon enough they are on the trail of the killer. At the same time, Monk is asked to look into the murder of a maid across town. Before the episode ends, the two deaths will be tied together. This is a very sad episode, with a poignant performance by Shalhoub. Monk begins confusing the death of the Nigerian woman with the death of his own wife, Trudy. Natalie and Captain S. are put on the back burner for this one. I am sorry to report that the episodes this season have not been up to the Monk of old. At least so far. Some posters have suggested this may be intentional, but I doubt it. I suspect the show has simply run out of gas, like ER and SCRUBS before it.
