Did You Know?

Henry Welles: You think I'd be willing to spend the rest of my life in jail because of an accident? Don't give me that much credit, I'm not that big of a man. I came back because of you, I came back because I knew if I didn't stand in front of you and apologize I wouldn't ever be able to live with myself. Now I don't know if that's conscience or love, but I do know that I'm not going to jail for my conscience. I'm going to jail for you.
Nathalie: That's not what I want. I don't want that.
Henry Welles: I know, but... it's the only ...

"Heartfelt and authentic character piece..."
28 November 2012 | by (Norway) – See all my reviews

Canadian screenwriter and director Deborah Chow's feature film debut which she wrote, premiered in the Canada First section at the 35th Toronto International Film Festival in 2010, was shot on location in Quebec, Montreal in Canada and is a Canadian production which was produced by producers Kimberly Berlin and Susan Schneir. It tells the story about Nathalie, who whilst going through her first pregnancy becomes involved in a hit-and-run accident that alters her life. In the days following the incident she is introduced to a man named Henry who she has never met before.

Finely and intimately directed by Canadian filmmaker Deborah Chow, this quietly paced fictional tale which is narrated from multiple viewpoints, draws a humane and mindful portrayal of an American man and a French woman. While notable for it's naturalistic and atmospheric milieu depictions, fine cinematography by cinematographer Claudine Cauvé and production design by production designer Susan MacQuarrie, this dialog-driven and narrative-driven drama depicts an in-depth study of character and contains a timely score by composer Normand Corbeil.

This irresistibly moving, modestly romantic and humorous independent film which is set during an autumn in Montreal and which examines essential themes, is impelled and reinforced by it's cogent narrative structure, subtle character development and continuity, endearing characters and the understated and empathic acting performances by Canadian actress Isabelle Blais, American actor, screenwriter and director Zach Braff and actor Julian Lo. A sincerely good, heartfelt and authentic character piece which is as naturally beautiful as it is heartrendingly afflicting.
