Absolute garbage
cyates-6464114 March 2024
Horrible acting, stupid characters. Who gave the "doctor" her medical degree? And more importantly, who in their right mind would use her as a doctor? Also as a wife,it would have taken me 10 minutes to tell her to get the hell out of my house! Then the husband and "doctor" go to town and the wife wants to go but the husbands response is "you need rest" and the wife just stays???? WTH? She obviously and rightfully didn't trust the woman. Nothing ever really happens, nothing is explained. The book isn't explained, the jewelry box isn't explained. Total waste of time. Not really sure what else to say except skip it, unless of course you need a good nap!

The Real Mystery Is It's Accolades
harwood-6887631 January 2024
Film opens with two preteen children retaliating against their father's abuse by doing him in with a hammer. Years later a woman , Val, receives the sad news the twins she gave birth to didn't survive. This motivates her and her husband, a contractor, to move to the country where she can tolerate the noise level after acquiring some odd affliction that makes her sensitive to sound. From there on, sound plays no part in the plot.

Val spends many hours walking around house, occasionally disturbed by mysterious sounds and the specter of some middle-aged guy.

Her friend, Chloe, the doctor who unsuccessfully delivered her twins pops by to stay with the couple for the weekend and help nurse Val back to health. The locals introduce themselves over the next few days. Rebecca De Mornay plays the town's local bartender, dishing out unsolicited pearls of wisdom about marriage. Val continues to roam the house, uncovering a music box containing a spinning ballerina figure. It has nothing really to do with plot but I guess the director of this trite was paying homage to the time honored tradition of "heroine finding a music box; what does it mean?". Val also finds a novel with the same title as the movie's. It's significance? Not much but extends movie by 5 minutes of dialogue and low key action involving the disposal of the book.

The end of the movie just kind of ends; it's almost like everyone involved was paid by the hour but not for overtime, so plot came to a rushed conclusion, with some questions unanswered, including why the film was called "Angel Baby" since there wasn't one.

It was so listless and silly you may actually want to watch it to the end to see if it gets any worse. BTW. From the credit roll, it appears many involved in making it worked at least two jobs producing it. I am beginning to think that included 'Positive Reviewer'.

Oh You Didn't Know???
wandernn1-81-68327420 March 2024
Oh Yes! Rebecca De Mornay give me some Risky Business!!!!

So a couple goes on a retreat to a cabin in the woods! As we all know, nothing bad ever happens at a cabin in the woods! There is no safer place to be than in a cabin in the woods!!! Plus, this really saves on a movie's budget since you don't need to have a lot of extras and face it, filming in the city is expensive!

Of course early on we get a rule breaker, -1 Star for a bathtub scene with no nudity shown. We don't like that. It's so unnecessary.

Then Rebecca shows up. Wow this movie is halfway over and nothing has happened -1 Star.

LAter on there is a sex scene, until of course the demon or whatever reveals. And again, no nudity. Another rule broken -1 Star

So when is the horror supposed to start here?

Okay so there's a fight at the end that is somewhat entertaining. But the end is not good enough for a star.

2/10.

I was utterly confused
burgerman936 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The acting is pretty top notch and there are a couple of jump scares. However the story makes zero sense, there's a lot of red herrings along the way, and as the viewer we are left in the dark when the credits rolled.

It's pretty obvious that Chloe and Justin are siblings, as evidenced by the fact that the young girl had blonde hair and that as an adult Chloe was close to Justin without being overtly sexual. But all of that aside, I didn't understand why Justin and Chloe were hell bent on having Val live in their childhood house. Wouldn't the siblings want to escape their traumatic childhood memories?

Also the music box and the "Angel Baby" book that kept popping up were meaningless. And it's clear the house is haunted, but what is this ghost's (of the murdered father's) intention other than creeping up on people when they sleep? It seems like as the movie went on, the haunted story diminished and the movie pivoted into a slasher tale.

The whole business with the sheriff, bartender, and the Good Samaritan neighbor didn't add to the story. This movie wasn't worth the time, it seemed rushed.

Angel Baby

A nice entry into a more cerebral, psychological horror. I went into this not knowing what exactly to expect as this is Mr. Tait's directorial debut. It is not perfect by any means, but I felt it was quite entertaining and the ending is open to your own interpretation. To this end, I like and was pleasantly surprised. There is nice dramatic moments, and a nice uneasiness that sustains the length and direction of the film. While there could have been more outright frightful moments, The acting was solid, and overall the movie carried you to the climax upon its set path and pace. Acting was solid.

Independent Thriller, a Streaming and Box Office hit.
JohnPortela197026 December 2023
I am neither cast or crew on this film. That being said, for an independent film, this Thriller/Suspence had my wife and I hooked from the beginning. My wife inparticular, usually falls asleep while watching TV at night, but this movie had her full attention as well as mine. We both had two "Oh sh!%" moments and at the exact same time. The movie had us in full debate and even question our predictions on who was who, and what was going to happen next. The ending had me and my wife asking..."Who the Heck was that?" To see what I mean, you need to watch the movie. When all is said and done, I recommend this movie to those who love Suspence. The ending is open for debate if a sequel will be made. We will see.

Saved by the twist.
okpilak5 April 2024
This is neither a great movie, nor a real stinker. In a house where an abuser father is about to seriously harm one of his children, the daughter steps up and puts a bloody stop it to. We then are introduced to Val, who just lost her twins in pregnancy, and her husband Justin. She has a friend Chloe who gives her support, has some medical training, and wants to make sure she takes her medicine to help her healing, and also get plenty of rest. After all, Val is crestfallen over the loss, and she is also sensitive to noise, which isn't helped by living just off a freeway. Justin, who does handy work, finds a cabin in the mountains that had been empty for 25 years, fixes it up some and they move there. Things start to go bump in the night, there are creaks, doors suddenly open and there seems to be a ghost of a man present. A book titled Angel Baby seems to be prominent, and also movies around a lot, but where it came from is an unknown. While Rebecca DeMornay gets prominent space on the cover art, she has little more than a cameo. Things get worse when Chloe makes a visit, and seems too involved with Justin. By then, many may already have worked out a scenario, but the twist is something many would not see coming, and helps elevate what could be a routine and boring film.

Unexplained Ending
pgoodwin-7933130 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I thought the movie was decent and suspenseful. It made one want to continue to watch to the end even though it was a little drawn out. I did not understand the ending. They never said what happened to her husband, Justin who was left, lying on the kitchen floor, after his sister attacked him. I assume he was still alive, but they never clarified it. They never explained the strange appearances of the man. They never said who it was nor who actually killed the sister. Too much left for the imagination, When she put the house up for sale, she looked at a window and saw a man standing there. Who?

Best Horror Movie of 2023 -- BY A COUNTRY MILE!!!
jfgibson7323 December 2023
I knew this was going to be an awesome story before I ever watched it. The lead performances were off the charts! I had a feeling the actors and actress would enhance the experience with their talents, and I was right. Effects are very amazing, as is the cinematography. Groundbreaking camera work, breathtaking use of angles, picture-perfect shots in every scene. Everyone who worked on this production brought their A-game, that is clear. Their efforts pop off the screen. The people hired as key grips did top-notch work, and it pays off in every frame. The director certainly was able to induce everyone on the film to reach new heights of achievement because of his willingness to make each one of them feel valued. It is so refreshing to see such a well-made movie where everyone worked in harmony to produce something that will stand the test of time.

Great film!
djpatton-1869022 April 2024
I really enjoyed the build up, the film kept me engaged. Isabel's performance was awesome and even though Rebecca De Mornay was only in the film for a short bit, her performace was amazing . If you are a fan of psychological horror this is the film for you. The film has a great setting, a creepy cabin in the woods. What could go wrong right? The setting and ambience add to the overall tension and arc of the film.

This was the first feature film directed by horror icon Doug Tait and I was really impressed with his shot selection and overall feel of the film. I would definitely recommend this film.
