Luke Newberry interview: In The Flesh, Home Front

Louisa Mellor Apr 21, 2017

We chatted to actor Luke Newberry about his BBC Radio 4 Home Front role, In The Flesh, getting his start in acting and more…

“I’m still umm-ing, how annoying for you!” he says, but interviewing Luke Newberry isn’t annoying in the least. He’s at pains to give proper answers to questions, literally so judging by some of the noises he makes in our half-hour chat. His frustrated ‘aaghs’ and ‘ooohs’ and ‘umms’ are the sound of someone who doesn’t have a ready-made patter and who doesn’t want to just say any old thing.

Mission: Impossible 6 set photo features Tom Cruise and Henry Cavill

19 April 2017 3:10 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Mission: Impossible 6 from director Chris McQuarrie (Rogue Nation) is currently filming in Paris.  There have been already been photos and videos shared of the various cast members, including Tom Cruise and Rebecca Ferguson, but none with newcomer Henry Cavill…until now.  McQuarrie shared a photo on his Instagram account today of both Cruise and Cavill on a rooftop with the Eiffel Tower behind them…

Both actors are wearing what appears to be parachute gear, but it is not known whether or not the actors will be performing their own stunts for this scene in particular.  Tom Cruise is known for doing his own stuntwork and has already been photographed in Paris working on stunts for the movie.  There are little to no details on what character Henry Cavill will be playing, but from this photo it appears that he might be a good guy after all and not a »

Is Chris Evans ‘Gifted’ Enough to Lead a Non-Marvel Film?

13 April 2017 6:51 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

His history of underperforming at the box office makes predicting a post-Marvel career tricky.

If the image of a bearded, flannel-clad Chris Evans playing a single uncle isn’t enough to lure throngs of women to the movies, I don’t know what will. In his latest film, Gifted, Evans plays Frank Adler, the aforementioned single uncle to a spunky six year-old gifted child, Mary (Mckenna Grace). Frank is caring for his niece after the unexpected death of his sister and he yearns for the child to have a normal and healthy life. After he sends Mary off on her first day of school, her teacher, Bonnie (Jenny Slate), notices the child’s remarkable abilities and alerts the school’s principal. Mary is offered a chance to attend a prestigious school for gifted children, which Frank promptly declines. This kicks off a custody battle between Frank and his estranged mother, Evelyn »

Wall Street Drama The Man In The Rockefeller Suit Eyeing Benedict Cumberbatch

12 April 2017 1:18 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Few actors working in Hollywood today are juggling as many projects as Benedict Cumberbatch – save for maybe Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Fresh off his title role in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, the British thesp has signed on to reprise as the Sorcerer Supreme in both Thor: Ragnarok and next year’s marquee ensemble movie, Avengers: Infinity War. And that’s before you factor in the more drama-oriented fair such as The Current War and Andy Serkis’ long-delayed Jungle Book movie, the latter of which will see Cumberbatch play the iconic role of Shere Khan – no relation to his villain from Star Trek Into Darkness, of course.

It looks likely that Benedict Cumberbatch will have to carve out room on that bustling slate for another project, too, with Deadline reporting today that the actor has entered talks to become The Man In The Rockefeller Suit for Fox Searchlight. Negotiations are ongoing, »

Doctor Who Series 10 Trailer Shows First Glimpse Of Regeneration

10 April 2017 9:16 PM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Series 10 of Doctor Who is soon upon us and the BBC is going out of their way to promote it. The latest trailer has appeared on Youtube and is giving us the first glimpse of Peter Capaldi's regeneration.

I've been a Doctor Who fan since I was a kid. In the 80's, the only way to watch Doctor Who in America was on your local PBS station. Every weekend, I would watch as Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy took on the mantle of The Doctor to face off against enemies like the Daleks, the Cybermen, Scaroth of the Jagaroth, and many others. While the quality in that era was hit or miss, to deny the imagination the show had was foolhardy.

The show went off the air in 1989. Apart from a television movie that appeared on Fox in America for whatever reason, not much was »

'Gifted' Review: Genius-Child Drama Settles for Mediocrity, and Your Tears

There are few words that can kill a film quicker than cute – just say to yourself, "Gosh, what a cute movie that was," and you can practically feel the inside of your mouth lined with a thin, granular film of Nutra-Sweet. It's one thing, of course, to plunk down cash to watch grumpy old coots and/or kids say the darnedest things, or bask in the cinematic equivalent of a puppy licking a baby's head. We, too, have done this. We don't judge you. Those things are a shucks-and-awww attack, »

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was originally conceived as an idea for TV

9 April 2017 1:25 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

During an interview with Comic Book Resources to promote the home entertainment release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Ilm’s John Knoll has revealed that he originally conceived the idea as a potential pitch for an episode of Star Wars: Underworld, the live-action Star Wars TV project that was in development at Lucasfilm following the release of the Prequel Trilogy.

“The first inklings of trying to tell that story happened in Summer 2003 when we were shooting on Episode III in Sydney. I had heard that Lucasfilm was developing stories for a potential live action TV series, and they were active in story development at the time. That was kind of intriguing, and I started thinking about, ‘What would be a fun thing to do as a one-hour episode as a live action Star Wars TV show?’ One thought was, ‘What about a Mission Impossible-style break-in into the most »

Fan Theory Friday: Are Sherlock Holmes and Spock Related???

7 April 2017 9:01 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Illogical, you might think, but you’d be wrong…

On paper, the characters of Sherlock Holmes and Spock would seem to be pretty similar. Both are emotionally-detached male humanoids who value logic, reason, and loyalty above all else. Both are highly intelligent, if peculiar for their intelligence, and both require a confidant, Watson for Holmes and Kirk for Spock, as a sounding board/link to reality. But what if the connection goes beyond surface traits, and what if Holmes and Spock are … brace yourselves … related?

It sounds crazy but it’s not as crazy as it seems, and it all hinges on a single quote:

“Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”

But before we get into all that, let’s look at another important connection between the two.

In “The Reichenbach Fall,” the season two finale of Sherlock, the BBC series starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Holmes »
