Watson's reference to Holmes as "Spock" has yet another significance. It is implied in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country that Sherlock Holmes is an ancestor of Spock's, "An ancestor of mine maintained that if you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains - however improbable - must be the truth."
