‘Archer Dreamland’ Review: Adam Reed’s Premiere Answers the Big Questions in an Emotional Opener

‘Archer Dreamland’ Review: Adam Reed’s Premiere Answers the Big Questions in an Emotional Opener
[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Archer Dreamland,” Season 8, Episode 1, “No Good Deed.”]

Those waiting to find out the fate of Sterling Archer will have to wait a little longer. Following last season’s cliffhanger ending where Archer, shot and bleeding, passed out in Lana’s arms, Season 8 picks up with a bait-and-switch. The tombstone the entire cast huddles around isn’t Archer’s, but Woodhouse’s. Archer is alive, but he’s been in a coma for the last three months — and he may never come out of it.

He could wake up “tomorrow, could be another three months, could be…” Mallory trails off. “There’s no telling what he knows, or what he’s thinking about. Well, dreaming about, I suppose.”

And with that, we enter “Dreamland.”

As mentioned in our season review, the primary concern with the set-up for Season 8 was whether or not “Dreamland” could prove relevant and/or entertaining enough to distract us from Archer’s life or death state.

Kent Sublette Added to Head Writer Ranks at ‘Saturday Night Live’

Kent Sublette Added to Head Writer Ranks at ‘Saturday Night Live’
NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” added two new head writers before the start of its 42nd season launched in September, putting three people in the position. Now it’s adding a fourth.

Kent Sublette, who has written for the venerable late-night series for at least the past eight years, has been elevated to head writer, a spokeswoman for the show said Monday. Sublette’s name was listed as a head writer in the credits of the show’s most recent broadcast early Sunday morning. He joins Sarah Schneider and Chris Kelly, who were placed in the role in August, and Bryan Tucker, who has held the title since the fall of 2013. NBC offered no other details as to why Sublette had been elevated.

Sublette is an alumnus of the Groundlings improv troupe, and was the screenwriter for the 2011 movie “Lucky,” starring Colin Hanks and Ari Graynor. Adding him to the head-writer group would appear to give the

‘Fallen Stars’ Exclusive Trailer: Two Lost Souls Develop a Friendship in Los Angeles’ Koreatown Neighborhood
This past year, actress Michelle Ang’s performance in the web series “Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462” garnered her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series. But Ang’s work in 2016 doesn’t stop there, as she also co-stars in the new indie drama “Fallen Stars” alongside Ryan O’Nan (“Fargo,” “Ray Donovan”), which will finally see a theatrical release this week.

Set in Los Angeles’ Koreatown neighborhood, the film chronicles the unexpected friendship that develops between Cooper (O’Nan), a burnt-out bartender in her mid-30s who still isn’t sure what he wants to do with his life, and Daisy (Ang), an accomplished, socially awkward girl in her early 20s. Despite differences in age and background, the two gradually get to know each other and begin to share their lives together.

Modern Family’s” Julie Bowen yelled, “Everybody’s at this Variety party!” on the red carpet, and she was right. Emmy power couple Felicity Huffman (newly brunette) and William H. Macy hobnobbed with “American Horror Story’s” Sarah Paulson, Huffman lovingly planting a kiss on Paulson’s cheek as a photographer snapped a shot. Amanda Peet also chatted with the two ladies bar-side.

Meanwhile, “Game of Thrones’” Gwendoline Christie hung out with co-star Alfie Allen (who later showed his dance moves). The party boasted so much talent, especially of the celebrated kicka– actress type, including “Orphan Black’s” Tatiana Maslany,

Question: Any word on what’s happening with Revenge? The last few episodes have all felt very series-finale leaning. Will it be renewed or cancelled? And if we do get a Season 5, is there a major revamp in store? —Sean

Ausiello: Based on what I’m hearing about the finale, there would have to be a major revamp if the show returns for a fifth season. Actually, forget revamp — there’d have to be a whole new show.

5 Greatest Movies Featuring A Win On The Lottery

Be honest: every time you play the lottery, the same fantasy runs through your head, of you sitting in a bath full of champagne, wearing a top hat and monocle, and throwing wads of cash into the air gleefully. Before you’ve even left the shop, you’ve spent half the money that you’re almost definitely destined to win, no matter what the actual odds.

Feeding this fantasy is the many, many movies that have involved lottery wins, and the results for the winners. They are invariably everyman characters, just like you, who need an escape from the mediocrity of mundane life, and who see their universe changed entirely by the huge injection of cash brought when the right numbers come in.

Now more than ever, the experience of buying a ticket is even easier, so that dream can be fed without even needing to go to the shop,

25 Cool Movie People Doing it Right on Twitter

When it comes to Hollywood people on Twitter, there are basically four different types:

1. Those who just think they're way too cool for tweet school before setting virtual foot onto the platform in the first place (here you have your Megan Fox-style fails);

2. The ones that are obviously controlled by some P.R. lackey receiving triple-filtered fluff to post (lookin' at the noob, Liam Hemsworth);

3. Those other guys who totally should have had someone buffering their tweets and/or should altogether just avoid typing while under the influence of alcohol, anger or any other inhibition-lowering stimuli (most recently, Alec Baldwin);

4. And, mercifully, the select few elite who actually give a hoot and have bothered to figure out what in H is going on with the social networking game. There are many different subsets of Type 4, but they all share one thing in common, and it's very simple: Personality.

Video: Hot Phone Sex With Ari Graynor

You've probably seen Ari Graynor before, yet can't place where. Maybe it was Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist, maybe it was that guest stint on Fringe, or maybe you were one of the only people that saw Lucky with Colin Hanks. But I do have the feeling that For A Good Time, Call... is finally going to be the movie that gives Graynor the total respect she deserves.

The film also stars Lauren Anne Miller, who looks stunningly like Rebecca Hall. And if relative newcomers aren't your thing, the film also stars Justin Long and Seth Rogen

Of course, this movie is going to bring up that whole tired conversation about women in comedy. Are they funny? Can they be raunchy? What Does This Mean In Contemporary Soceity? Blah blah blah. I'll answer those questions for you right now. Yes, women are funny, yes they can be raunchy, nothing. It

The Box Office Story: ‘Snow White’ Is The Fairest Movie In The Land

When Universal Studios asked the magic mirror who would be the fairest movie in all the land this weekend, it replied, “None other than your own, Snow White and the Huntsman.”

The dark adaptation of the classic fairy tale bumped Men in Black 3 off of the throne with a $56 million opening weekend. It was a slight surprise considering Snow White opened to just 3,773 theaters, a wide release certainly, but not as wide as Mib 3, which was still playing in nearly 500 more theaters than Snow White. Universal was able to receive some redemption after Battleship flopped and while it wasn’t the perfect film, we have to say that it was worth it to see Charlize Theron’s performance.

Editor’S Pick: Read Our Review of Snow White and The Huntsman

Mib 3 had a solid second weekend, falling just -46.3%, not bad for the average blockbuster film. It’s made nearly

‘Lucky’ Mixes Quirky Characters with Serial Killings and A Lottery Jackpot

In scouring Netflix Instant for some horror to watch, I flicked past Lucky, a film starring Colin Hanks and Jeffrey Tambor. Normally, a Colin Hanks film is enough reason for me to keep looking, especially when the cover looks like Photoshop vomit with fake bodies, fake props, and money flying everywhere. What is this? After reading the description though, I figured I’d give it a shot. Hanks stars as Ben Keller, an ‘aspiring serial killer’ who runs into a bit of lucky when he unknowingly murders a woman who just purchased a winning lottery ticket. Well, he knowingly murders her. He just didn’t know about the winning lottery ticket she had. With his new found fortune, Keller wrestles with his desire to kill while courting his long-time crush, a money hungry hottie he grew up with.

‘The Secret Circle’ Recap: Adam & Cassie Have Hot (Cursed) Sex

I'm thinking this week's episode title, 'Lucky,' was all leading up to Adam & Cassie's epic last scene. Everyone's first time is awkward, but can you imagine how much more awkward it would be if a gaggle of pervy birds were watching you do it from above your house? That's how it was for Cassie (Britt Robertson) and Adam (Thomas Dekker) on the March 15 episode of The Secret Circle when they finally decided to do the dirty -- but there's really much more to the story. It turns out the old legend about the Blakes and the Conants being "written in the stars" isn't just destiny. It's a "curse," at least according to John (Joe Lando), which would explain why all those peeping ravens were fluttering over Cassie's house during sexy times -- and why they're found dead on next week's episode. But that wasn't this week's only major revelation.

'Secret Circle' Cast Tells All From Set

'Secret Circle' Cast Tells All From Set
HuffPost TV recently ventured up into the foothills of Vancouver's Brittania Mountain to visit the cast of The CW's freshman series "The Secret Circle" on location.

The weather was chilly at the atmospheric old mine they were filming at for "Crystal," the April 19 episode, and the cast members filming that day -- Britt Robertson, Thomas Dekker, Phoebe Tonkin, Chis Zylka and Jessica Parker Kennedy -- were eager to discuss their magical new series.

We'll have more from our exclusive visit in weeks to come, but since the show returns Thursday (March 15, 9 p.m. Est on The CW) after a month of repeats, we asked the stars to preview what we can expect in this week's episode, titled "Lucky."

In the episodes leading up to the break, we witnessed Cassie (Robertson) and Adam (Dekker) growing closer, and now the two star-crossed witches are an official couple, which, according to Dekker is

SXSW announces first round of 2012 film panels

  • IFC
It's kind of insane that we're about to start talking about next year's South by Southwest and it's still October. Just last week I reposted a video from this year's SXSW! But here we go: today SXSW announced their first round of film programming, a preliminary list of panels you'll be able to check out next March in Austin, Texas. Highlights include a conversation with "Drive" and "Contagion" composer Cliff Martinez, a chat about arts criticism in the age of Twitter, and the return of the legendary "Jeffrey Tambor Acting Workshop." My favorite panel title on the list? "The Evolution of the Douchebag in Modern Cinema." It's sort of hard for douchebags to evolve -- that's kind of what makes them douchebags -- but I think I know what they're getting at.

The full list of announced panels is below. And, hey, it's not too late to submit your feature
