Top Ten Worst Movies of 2010 ...that I saw

I typically don't like making "Worst of" lists because I tend to avoid several films throughout the year that I know I probably wouldn't like. So, when reading through this list just know these are the top ten worst films of the year among those I've seen.

I've perused the lists of others on the internet and noticed titles such as The Bounty Hunter, Marmaduke, Killers, Flipped, Grown-Ups, The Nutcracker In 3D, Little Fockers, Cats and Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore, You Again, Skyline, Yogi Bear, Burlesque, The Last Song, Dear John, Life as We Know It, Vampires Suck or Lottery Ticket. I didn't see any of these and have no intention of seeing them. So please take that into consideration.

However, before we get to the ten there were a few that fell shy of making the list, including The Tourist, »

There's No Shame In Being One of the Lowest Grossing Wide Releases of 2010

29 December 2010 9:37 PM, PST | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

Over at Cinematical, Eric D. Snider has compiled a list of the lowest grossing wide releases of 2010. To be eligible, a film had to play on at least one thousand screens nationwide and, y'know, not make much money. The list includes its share of indisputable stinkers, including the heinous "Jonah Hex." But a bunch of the movies are flops in financial terms only, deserved better than they got at the box office, and are worth your time on DVD now that all but one of them are available. They are:

"Splice"

Directed by Vincenzo Natali

$17.0 million gross on 2,450 screens

Seventeen million dollars in nearly 2500 theaters is pretty bad for a summer blockbuster but it's nothing to sneeze at for a quirky sci-fi indie. And that's really what "Splice" was; though Warner Brothers released it in June in the middle of Dumb Movie Season, the film, which premiered at the 2010 Sundance »

2010 In Review: Charles' Take [Updated]

29 December 2010 9:00 AM, PST | Screen Anarchy | See recent Screen Anarchy news »

You might have noticed some of my illustrious, talented, and all-around terrific colleagues have set about ticking off their 2010 lists. Never one to miss a chance to throw out an unsolicited (although hopefully compelling) opinion, I thought I might weigh in. This isn't so much a best-of list, as much as a reflection on the last year and some of the films which stuck out for various, particular reasons for me.I think many of the other reviewers on the site have the same lament I've been carrying for  the last couple of weeks: 2010 had so many movies and there was so little time to see them all. As of this writing, I still haven't had the opportunity to check out True Grit, Catfish, or give Black Swan the due diligence of a second viewing (if you held a gun to my head for an instant opinion, I'd say it was mostly excellent, »

Ab Eye View of Benjamin Millepied; IRS Woes for Val Kilmer; Demi Lovato Goes Goth; Gaga to Dress for Zoolander?

ReelzChannel Celebrity Rundown

The internet has given the collective nod of approval to Natalie Portman's hot beau, Benjamin Millepied. His ab tattoo is nearly as popular.

***

Val Kilmer is on the hook for half-a-million woes from the IRS. The actor, who is trying to sell his 6,000-acre ranch in New Mexico, has been served. Apparently Uncle Sam saw MacGruber and wants his money back.

***

Prosecutors have been pulling in the witnesses to testify in the Michael Jackson manslaughter case against Dr. Conrad Murray. At least 30 witnesses are said to be lined up for the two week preliminary hearing.

***

Disney-thing Demi Lovato has embraced her dark side, emerging in all her gothiness from an Illinois rehab center. The release is temporary as Lovato will return to the center where she has been receiving treatment for "emotional and physical issues."

Apart from teasing fans by announcing that she would make an announcement this New Year's Eve, »

The Best 2010 “Guilty Pleasure” Movies

#1- Machete

Directed by Robert Rodriguez and co-director Ethan Maniquis

It took three years, but Machete, whose fake trailer showcased before the B-picture homage Grindhouse, finally hit the cineplex. Anyone who found themselves excited by that teasing coming attraction will no doubt be satiated by the relentless onslaught of over-the-top violence, extreme gore, unnecessary nudity and cheap laughs that directors Rodriguez and Maniquis deliver in it’s full-length incarnation. Sugarcoat it with a dose of political satire and Machete is everything The Expendables should have been – self-aware, flashy and fun.

Rodriguez does a good job in updating a gritty, gory genre. His pic made-on-the-cheap mimics the grind house aesthetic right down to the choppy edits, 70′s style opening credits, the tongue and cheek use of funky soft core porn music (provided by Rodriguez’s band Chingon) and the grainy cinematography. More so the director summons influences of American Westerns and »

Ryan Phillippe and Amanda Seyfried Get Close, Hope We’re Watching

23 December 2010 10:01 AM, PST | VH1.com | See recent VH1.com news »

According to E! Online, “friends” Amanda Seyfried & Ryan Phillippe “both are surprised they haven’t been caught by the paparazzi” on one of their recent (romantic?) rendezvous. Well forgive us if we don’t chase supporting actors from MacGruber around night and day! Anyway, Amanda & Ryan were finally caught together shopping in La Tuesday. “He was in a baseball cap and she had on a big jacket. They seemed to want to keep a super low profile but looked comfortable around each other.” Wait, they were Christmas shopping together but didn’t look annoyed? Obviously, they’re not really a couple yet. “I’m not sure if they are exclusive, but I know he likes her a lot,” says E!’s source, who should also be aware that Ryan Phillippe likes all young blondes a lot. The pair were also spotted smooching over dinner recently—maybe they can double date »

22 December 2010 7:29 PM, PST | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Amanda Seyfried has added fuel to the rumor suggesting she is dating Ryan Phillippe. On Tuesday, December 21, the former girlfriend of Dominic Cooper was seen acting flirty with the "MacGruber" actor when they were enjoying a lunch date at Quality Food on 3rd St. in Los Angeles.

An eyewitness informed E! News that the rumored couple went incognito. "He was in a baseball cap and she had on a big jacket," the observer shared. "They seemed to want to keep a super low profile but looked comfortable around each other." It was further reported that the two shared laughs as Amanda sipped on hot tea.

When they done eating, Amanda and Ryan tried to sneak out using the back entrance in order to avoid the paparazzi waiting outside. According to a source close to the former husband of Reese Witherspoon, the two stars have been "hanging out a lot". The insider added, »

Analysis: This time last year, excitement was quietly brewing for "The Beaver". Gibson's drunken tirade a few years before hand wasn't forgotten, but enough time had passed that this looked to be the year of a potential comeback for the actor.

The thriller remake "Edge of Darkness" and this were his first on screen roles in ten years, 'Beaver' is also his "Maverick" co-star Foster's return to the director's chair fifteen years after her last feature. The script topped the 2008 Black List and scored rave reviews for its blend of sophisticated humor and sad pathos, »

Ryan Phillippe Is Set Up

5 December 2010 4:02 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

After helping to spoof the action genre with MacGruber, Ryan Phillippe is getting back to making a straight-faced example of it, signing up alongside Bruce Willis, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Jenna Dewan Tatum for Set Up.Co-written by Mike Gunther and Mike Behrman and with Gunther calling the shots in Michigan right now, the story finds three friends who get caught up in a diamond heist that begins to turn nasty. You know, because diamond heists are usually such fun little affairs, with dancing and cocktails. There’s no word on what roles the three are playing, though we’d guess Phillippe is one of the pals who is sucked into the crime. We’re a little more intrigued as to Bruce’s association with the movie, since he was already scheduled to act in Patrick Allesandrin’s Ten, which is also about to start shooting. Maybe he’s trying »

Not much has been revealed yet about the script, which was co-written by Gunther and Mike Behrman. Ryan Phillippe and Jenna Dewan Get Set Up With New Roles

3 December 2010 10:35 AM, PST | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

After trying his hand at comedy with MacGruber, Ryan Phillippe is going back to drama. The actor is set to star in Set Up, a thriller starring Bruce Willis and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson that follows a group of friends caught in "a diamond heist that turns deadly." He'll be joining Jenna Dewan, who has also recently signed onto the project. Between this and The Lincoln Lawyer, it seems like Phillippe is sticking to a genre that he's more comfortable with (considering MacGruber's poor showing, that might be a good thing). As for Dewan, I'm just going to assume that she's playing either 1) one of the guy's girlfriends or 2) some sort of tough but sexy accomplice clad in tight leather pants. Even so, I'm glad to see her get another movie role, instead of just letting her hubby hog the spotlight. »

Ghostbusters 3 Casting Rumours: Bill Hader, Will Forte and Anna Faris?

26 November 2010 11:45 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

So what's the deal with Ghostbusters 3? When it was first announced back in 2008 [1], it sounded like it was a sure thing, as Sony had hired The Office writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to pen a script, and Ivan Reitman was later confirmed to be in the director's chair. However, Bill Murray kept popping up in interviews, trashing Eisenberg and Stupnitsky's last film Year One, and acting as if he wanted nothing to do with it. Recently we heard that Dan Aykroyd was reworking the script and that Sony was considering a May 2011 start date [2] for the film, but with casting for the "next generation" of Ghostbusters still up in the air, it remains unclear if this sequel will happen anytime soon. However, this week, we've got some random casting rumours to add to the mix, and if they are accurate, it sounds like Ghostbusters could be drawing from »

Kilmer Leads Coppola's 'Twixt Now and Sunrise'

25 October 2010 11:45 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Deadline's Mike Fleming is reporting that Francis Ford Coppola has quietly been hard at work directing his next project, a horror film titled Twixt Now and Sunrise. Based on a short story by Coppola, the film will star Val Kilmer as a horror novelist. Also on board are Elle Fanning (who will next be seen in Sophia Coppola's Oscar contender Somewhere) and Bruce Dern (Coming Home, Monster). They're currently filming on Coppola's property in Napa.

Kilmer has been on the comeback trail of late after being relegated to mostly direct-to-video releases for the past few years. He was featured in MacGruber earlier this year and last year had a talked about role in Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. Either way he seems to be working hard, starring in a new DVD release seemingly every other month, and it will be nice to see him back »
