"Chickadee" explores timeless, universal social issues reflected through an Italian-American immigrant family. Their struggle parallels the current discrimination and racism plaguing present day immigrants. "Chickadee" also depicts the plight of all early American immigrants who worked in mills and sweatshops across the country. People who helped build the foundation of American society. Written by

Actor Leo Burmester was an early champion of Chickadee. He wrote this quote about the film: "I had no idea Lora Lee was a writer over the years when we were simple friends. When we started seeing each other we naturally began telling each other about our lives and our respective families. At some point she told me about Laurina and Chickadee. By the time I read the play and screenplay I already loved Laurina, who I never met. I could feel her spirit and the great love Lora Lee has for her. Then I met her brother Tommy and it seemed some kind of connection was being seared into me." Chickadee is dedicated to Leo's wonderful spirit. We love and miss you, Leo. See more
