Goofs

Highly enriched Uranium 235 is the easiest material from which to build a nuclear bomb because you can use the extremely simple (if wasteful) "gun device", Hiroshima-type design instead of a highly complicated implosion design. Using weapons grade Uranium to build a relatively harmless "dirty bomb" is like hitting an enemy over the head with your gun instead of shooting him. It only seems plausible here because the radiological dangers of U235 have been blown out of proportion in the subplot with Bazhaev's son suffering from radiation poisoning. See more »

Cole Ortiz,Dana Walsh And Kevin Wade
14 September 2012 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Bazhaev contacts Josef and convinces him to stand down. Unfortunately, Farhad's men arrive, shoot Josef and take possession of the rods. When Rob Weiss, President Taylor's Chief of Staff, becomes aware of this, he contacts Hastings and orders him to finger Renee as a scapegoat for the operation's failure, particularly the death of Laitanan. She is interviewed by Kristen Smith from the Justice Department for this purpose, despite misgivings from both Hastings and Chloe. With Arlo's help, Cole tracks down Dana, who has staked out Kevin's van (he and Nick are associating with two women from the strip club) and is in possession of a suppressed pistol. After Dana confesses the entire mess, Cole threatens her associates himself. Kevin agrees to back off, but Nick stabs him and then fires at Cole with a revolver; only a dying Kevin's panicked shout allows him to defend himself. Farhad and his associate Samir Mehran link up with some confederates. Farhad wants to get the rods to Kamistan, but Samir hatches an alternate plan to use them in a "dirty" radioactive bomb for an immediate attack on Manhattan Island. Farhad, seemingly in agreement, feels pangs of conscience, escaping to contact CTU for help. Jack, whose romantic chemistry with Renee has finally come to fruition, agrees to extract Farhad in exchange for Hastings canceling the criminal investigation into her conduct.

In summary, here the events that happened during that hour:

1.Cole Ortiz tells Kevin Wade and Nick to stay away from Dana, but Nick's betrayal results in both mens' deaths.

2.Kayla Hassan confesses to her father that she and Tarin Faroush, currently under arrest on suspicion of treason, have been in love for more than a year.

3.Farhad Hassan learns of Samir's plan to use the fuel rods against the United States, and stages an escape from his safe house. In hiding, Hassan contacts CTU and agrees to turn over his information if they rescue him from Samir and his men.

4.Brian Hastings argues with Rob Weiss over charging Renee Walker with murder, to deflect blame for her failed undercover mission. Brian reluctantly agrees.

5.Jack Bauer interrupts an interview between Renee and Kristen Smith, but is arrested by CTU security. With Ortiz gone, Jack agrees to lead the operation to retrieve Farhad, in exchange for Hastings dropping the charges against Renee Walker.

The hours have become repetitive in terms of plot lines and elements of the previous seasons.Have the writers run out of ideas?Good thing that they had a subplot of Cole Ortiz,Dana Walsh and Kevin Wade.It was some sort of a love triangle among these three characters. But one of them gets killed as this day stays true to its characteristic of being the most violent season ever.Too bad that I felt somehow (I have seen all episodes for Day 8) that the story between them was left hanging by the writers in the end and there was no clear resolution to the fate of these three characters.
