Exclusive: Former Battlestar Galactica executive producer and Caprica co-creator/exec producer David Eick has come on board TNT’s hit alien-invasion drama Falling Skies as executive producer/showrunner. On the show, executive produced by Steven Spielberg and starring Noah Wyle, he replaces fellow Caprica co-creator/exec producer Remi Aubuchon, who is leaving after serving as showrunner for the past two seasons. Season 3 of Falling Skies kicks off with a two-hour premiere June 9. Eick is expected to begin assembling a writing staff to start working on Season 4 in anticipation of pickup. (Because of Falling Skies‘ complicated shoot and laborious post-production process due to elaborate special effects, the writers on the show normally get a head start before an official green light so the gap between seasons is not too big.) A Season 4 renewal is considered a formality as Falling Skies is TNT’s #1 scripted series in the younger demos. It premiered »

For director David Cronenberg, marrying up stunning and grotesque visuals with Hollywood’s choicest talent is not unusual. The cast roster for his latest directorial effort, Maps To The Stars is already mightily impressive. Stars are chomping at the monstrous bit to have the chance to work with the Canadian filmmaker.
Mia Wasikowska, no stranger to the weird, Olivia Williams and Evan Bird have now joined the project. Wasikowska’s recent turn in Stoker cements her as an actress with a willingness to venture into the sinister side of human nature. Williams is best known for her work in The Sixth Sense, Rushmore, a brilliant turn in Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, and the recent Anna Karenina adaptation. For youngster Bird, this will be his first foray into film after roles in TV’s The Killing and Falling Skies.
Reports on their roles indicate that the story is sounding more and »

This year, at the Grauman’s Egyptian Theater in Hollywood, Entertainment Weekly and the American Cinematheque teamed up for the inaugural CapeTown Film Festival, and hopefully this festival is here to stay. The past week, I’ve gone to a few of the screenings, joining the hordes of fanboys and girls cheering for their favorite picture(s).
The lineup has been stellar, featuring classics both old and new. On Tuesday, EW staged an early screening of Iron Man 3 before the U.S. premiere date of May 3rd, with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige in attendance. The next day was Edgar Wright Day, with Shaun Of The Dead and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World being shown, with Edgar Wright joined by stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Brandon Routh, Satya Bhabha, and Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley. On Thursday, John Carpenter’s The Thing terrified the sold out crowd with a 35 mm print, »

Terry Gilliam flew into Los Angeles for the screening of his hallucinogenic time-travel romp Twelve Monkeys at EW’s first-ever CapeTown Film Fest. The director and legendary enfant terrible sat down in front of the crowd with EW’s Geoff Boucher on Sunday evening for a freewheeling hour-long chat which skipped all over Gilliam’s storied career, from Monty Python to Brazil to why Hollywood won’t let him make movies to the time he almost (but not really) got to make Harry Potter. Check out a video of the chat below, and read on for the key lines from the legendary filmmaker. »

On Friday May 3, the crowd gathered for Escape From New York at the EW CapeTown Film Festival was also treated to a special screening of the first hour of the season 3 premiere of Falling Skies and a Q&A with members of the cast.
During the Q&A session, Noah Wyle talked about Steven Spielberg being involved with every aspect of the show, from casting to editorial work. “But it’s not a presence that you feel on the set necessarily, other than wanting to do your best work, cause you know it’s being watched and handled by one »

As part of Entertainment Weekly’s ongoing CapeTown Film Fest last night, some lucky fans got to see a special screening of the Falling Skies season 3 premiere. From the first hour, it looks like the series is kicking off what some could see as a whole new direction. Once the episode was over, cast members Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Drew Roy and Maxim Knight joined showrunner Remi Aubuchon for a special Q&A. In the Q&A the cast and showrunner gave teasers about what fans can expect from the show in season 3. Hit the jump to find out what we learned. In the season premiere, seven months have passed since the season 2 cliffhanger and saying that a lot has changed since then is probably a massive understatement. Aubuchon said that the premiere will be an important episode in season 3 as every theme that will be in the new season »

Fans of TNT’s Falling Skies now have just a little over a month to wait before they see how the 2nd Mass is getting along with new alien arrivals, how Anne’s pregnancy is going, how that creepy crawly parasite is affecting Hal, and the next chapters to other cliffhangers from last summer’s season 2 finale. Ahead of the show’s June 9 season 3 premiere date, EW screened the first half of the two-hour season opener at our inaugural CapeTown Film Festival on Friday night at Hollywood’s Egyptian Theatre.

Yesterday we posted some interesting TV spots for TNT‘s Falling Skies that were cool but didn’t have any real new information about Season 3. Today, however, is information day. You’ll get a little bit from the featurette below, but the clip has a lot more. (Wow, someone sure has grown up a lot in “seven months.” I hope he doesn’t suffer the same fate as Walt on Lost.)
The most information, however, is in the press release below. Watch, read, and enjoy:

Get it? Ears bug out? Remember, the bug crawling out of Hal’s ear? No? Well these new and kinda edgy Falling Skies TV spots will remind you. They’re cool, creepy, odd, excellent, weird, or frustrating, depending on your perspective. Nothing new, really, except the style, but that style is certainly noteworthy. They are presented to you with the weirdest one first. The second is a shorter version of the third.

Falling Skies has drawn in viewers over its first two seasons not only with its ever-morphing alien mythology, delightfully grotesque horror moments, and intense action scenes, but also with its family drama — which will get more complicated in the upcoming season 3 with a new addition to the Mason family: Tom and Anne’s baby.
Playing Dr. Anne Glass, 2nd Mass medic and love interest for Noah Wyle’s Tom Mason, has given actress Moon Bloodgood the chance to flex some of the same action-hero muscles as she did in other sci-fi projects, like Terminator Salvation. But in Falling Skies’ third season, »

If you’re a fan, friend, or Evil Ex of Ramona Flowers, it’s a good time to make a Pilgrimage to Hollywood.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World will get a next-level celebration on May 1 when the Entertainment Weekly CapeTown Film Festival in Los Angeles reunites filmmaker Edgar Wright with two of the film’s stars — Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jason Schwartzman — and Bryan Lee O’Malley, the Canadian cartoonist who has followed Pilgrim’s progress (or lack thereof) over six bestselling graphic novels.

This summer is really shaping up to be a great one for Our Kind of TV. We’ll be seeing the return of, amongst others, Teen Wolf, Falling Skies, Zero Hour, and True Blood, plus new shows Primeval New World and Under the Dome, which looks particularly intriguing. We have new Under the Dome TV spots to show you to get your interest piqued, while we wait for more, and for summer.
First a quick reminder:
Under The Dome, a new 13-episode serialized drama based on Stephen King‘s best-selling novel and produced by Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Entertainment, opens Monday, June 24 (10:00-11:00 Pm, Et/Pt). Hawaii Five-0 will move to Friday (9:00-10:00 Pm, Et/Pt) during the summer.
Under The Dome is the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. »

If you’ve never seen Falling Skies and are wondering what it’s about, here’s a trailer to pique your interest. The first 30 seconds or so is “before the invasion” footage, though little if any time has been spent on that in the actual series. It does, however, set the stage for what comes next.
The show isn’t always as somber as the music might suggest, but it also isn’t mostly explosions, as the video might suggest. It’s somewhere in between. The intensity and action were both stepped up in Season 2, which makes up the majority of the video included here. Oh, and for you veteran fans, watch closely and you’ll see new footage interspersed throughout, most notably near the end.
