A Beautiful movie from Blessy and Outstanding performance by Mohanlal
AgentDice21 October 2013
Synopsis - The movie starts off with Mohanlal coming back to meet his friend Unnikrishnan (Suresh Menon) who is working in shares. The movie later develops into a road movie with anxious moments.

Story & Screenplay - The story isn't special, but the treatment was brilliant.Thats a credit actually for Blessy the director, but he wrote a brilliant screenplay in manner that it doesn't deviate from the mood of the film. This was the mistake he made in Palunku & Calcutta News. The dialog's were normal human to human conversation (it might disappoint so called fans who expects "Savari Giri Giri"s)

Direction - Blessy showed signs of a brilliant director even in his worst movie Calcutta News.In Bhramaram, shots were absolutely stupendous. You can see a lost Bharathan touch in this movie. As I mentioned before, the treatment/presentation was brilliant. In C:N & Palunku,he tried to handle too many subjects which he avoided in this movie.Even though at a point, you might guess the so called suspense, its his direction combined with Mohanlal's out of the world performance, that made a wonderful climax out of a predictable one.But still he depends on family, sentiments in this movie, than an edge of a seat thriller. To his credit, even after the first half completes, many people cannot make a guess on the second half.He chose a road movie over a suspense thriller.

Cast & Performance - No matter how well you write a scene,No matter how will you direct that scene,If you cannot deliver a performance like Mohanlal in climax,It would have been an ordinary climax.I don't remember when was the last time Mohanlal displayed his caliber,I feel this performance is above Thanmathra's Rameshan. For me the best scene was the bathroom scene with Suresh Menon at lodge when his friend visits him.Just no words to describe about it.The bar scene was the one with most applause.Another competition for NATIONAL AWARDS.

Suresh Menon got a dream role.Just don't remember when someone got a role throughout along with Mohanlal.Even though he couldn't come anywhere near to the magnitude of Mohanlal's performance,he was pretty fine.Murali Nair as his doctor friend was fine.Lakshmi Gopalaswamy didn't have much to do.But the biggest disappointment came in the form of Bhoomika Chawla. She couldn't come anywhere near to the female protagonists of Blessy films (Padmapriya,Meera Vasudev,Lakshmi Sharma & Meera Jasmine). But the worst & most irritating performance came in the form of Mohanlal's daughter.God knows what was Blessy thinking while filming those scenes.Baby Nivedhita was as usual herself. By the way, as special mention to that cute Pomeranian puppy. It was really a cute piece of life.

Music & BGM - The songs were quite fine & pictured well.People wanted more of Annaara Kanna song which shown in bits & pieces.Except the inspired "The Dark Knight" theme during two scenes of intensity, the background score was good.

Technical Side - Brilliant Editing,Picturesque Cinematography really suits the mood of the film along with its strong direction

Finally,I can say with utmost confidence that Bhramaram is the Best movie released this year.Even though the caption suspense thriller is misleading,it keep people interesting.

after a long time mohanlal shines again!

Warning: Spoilers
This movie might be boring to young people because in the beginning it looks like just another ordinary malayalam movie but then starts to build suspense slowly.

Mohanlal acts well in this movie. The supporting actors were also good. It can make you cry especially the last scene. It can be predictable eventually but the suspense quotient is the one that keeps this movie sailing along his performance. One of mohanlal's top 10 best acts of all all time. Bhoomika is impressive and must do more malayalam movies with mohanlal or mammooty. The child actor was impressive too along with the song she sang.

My family liked it and so did I eventually. The songs were nice too. Mohanlal got a special award for this movie.

Great Movie and above all unbelievable acting !!
nidhinnair00718 May 2014
I just simply love this movie, every time this movie is on television I watch it. the acting done lead actor Mohanlal is just unbelievable. His acting really connects with the audience. Climax was the best part of the movie even might make you emotional. The child actress as Mohanlal's daughter was disappointing. Kalpana as Mohanlal's mother too acted brilliantly. Movie does manage to maintain the intensity right through.I have always been a fan of director Blessy's movies. Even though the suspense can be predicted just before the climax, its still OK and might be done by the director intentionally. The use of house fly's wing flapping sound here and there right the movie is also a brilliant thought. Also the song annarakanna vaa was good to hear placed properly in the movie

A Great movie with a Hitchcockian flavour
arunv-nair1020 December 2009
Bhramaram (meaning-'the beatle')

When was the last time one of you came out of a movie hall with a lump in the throat but with a kind of positive energy filed in your veins.Or with a heart that is half filled with a deep sorrow while other half finds itself with an uncharacteristic joy. Let me tell you I just got to experience all these while walking out of a show of director BLESSY's classic 'Bhramaram'.

While one part of my heart empathized towards our main protagonist in the movie, deeply, the other half finds itself filled with true joy which is partly due to how the movie managed to show the value of humanity and truth as well as because of the reflection by myself that a malayalam movie was able to travel all the way to that little corner of a place, that is my heart, which is quite uncommon nowadays. And the movie continues to haunt me well after i had seen it.

(*No spoilers*)

The movie actually portrays a simple story but the way Blessy handles this makes all the difference. The story follows 'Sivankutty'(played by Mohan lal) who is a high range jeep driver by profession, and focuses on a few days in his life and a few characters whom he gets to encounter in those days through which it tries to unravel his character to the full, his past and the people around him.Blessy show there is only a thin line separating all the good and bad or fear and trust. There is a certain HITCHCOCKian flavor that one could sense Blessy has adopted to unravel his story.

The camera handled by Ajay Vincent gives us breathtaking visuals and feel.Overall technically the film is excellent as well.

Now even with with all these if i have to pick one reason to say why one should watch Bhramaram it would be none other than the Legendary actor MohanLal's 'extra-brilliant' performance.(Sorry,i don't get another word to describe it).One of finest performance ever in an Indian screen. Most others in the cast, especially the guy who plays protagonist's friend, have also done well though few of them were some hiccups in terms of performance but that is very much ignorable.

Now if you are a STUDENT/LOVER of cinema please do yourself a favour by watching a good quality print of Bhramaram. There are people who try to degrade Blessy and his movies regardless of the its quality with some sort of agenda which itself shows the popularity and value of his movies. Regardless of how much you like it at the end, it will truly be an EXPERIENCE for anyone of you. For me it was one of the best malayalam movies of the decade and even one of the Best in Indian cinema in a few years.

Another Mohanlal magic !!!!!!!!!
midhun-j-j28 July 2009
Bhramaram is not just a movie....its a magic show by Mohanlal...who just delivers a magical performance you cant imagine or u just wont expect....Bhramaram is not at all a great movie...It starts off with good expectations and eventually falls out off track...But it has a good story...The casting is not very good..Especially the villains(are new comers) are not at all up to the notch...It should have been performed by some experienced actors..The camera is the second thing in this movie that can be highlighted after Mohanlal...The locations(marayoor etc)are really beautiful....The songs are also good...Overall this movie may not entertain you much..However Mohanlal once again proves why he is the greatest actor in India....You should see this if you don't want to miss Mohanlal's magical performance...

Lalettan Thakartu.....
nashh139 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Blessy has come back this time with a thriller masterpiece. This is the second time he is working with Mohanlal. Mohan Lal is one of the finest actor in Indian Cinema and with his role as Shivankutty, he does wonders. I am not revealing much of the plot. Flickering minded Shivankuty was well enacted by Laletta. The movie has a lot of misleading plots which adds to the suspense mood. The film was a big pack of surprise for me. Therefore i do not intend to reveal much of the plot. Excellent direction by Blessy, extremely well written script, style of cinematography (never-seen-before-in Malayalam cinema-) and electrifying performance of Mohanlal makes this one a must see. 10/10

Mohanlal at his best yet again :)
Sharaths002122 November 2014
After Kazhcha and Tanmathra I had great expectation from a Blessy movie.Bhramaram is yet another masterpiece from this brilliant director that will leave you with an impact. The only flaw in the movie is lack of strong side characters. Suresh Menon is a great mimic and comedy artist however didn't fit the role perfectly. The movie might not appeal to everyone due to the theme and low life of the main protagonist. Howeverif you are a serious cinema lover Bhramaram will not disappoint you. Again the reason is Lalettan, Bhramaram belongs to our greatest actor. Bhramaram presented him with a perfect opportunity to display all the emotions and to be in his elements. He depicts the innocence, madness, ruthless cruelty, anger, frustration of ShivanKutty, a poor man ; victim of his circumstances. The actor continues to mesmerize me with such performances and make me realize that I am too lucky to witness him. Watch Bhramaram for this Mahanadan :)

Not Blessy's best
grameshk26 September 2009
Blessy's previous movies featured ordinary human beings caught in natural situations in a refreshing way. But Bhramaram story was centred on a rather extraordinary crime and the hero's response to it was even more extraordinary. The beginning of the movie did have a Hitchcockian flavour, but the second half was slow paced - more Adoor than Hitchcock. A striking quality of Blessy's first movies were the speed and flow of the narrative - the economy of dialogue and the agility with which one scene gave way to the next - with Thanmatra and Kazhcha, the flow was swift - there was never a bump or breakdown - giving no chance for boredom to raise its head in the viewer at any time. I felt this was not the case with Bhramaram. The mature romance between the portly Mohanlal and the nubile Bhoomika and the surrealistic (belly) dance number in a supposedly rustic village lacked the authenticity of similar scenes of Kazhcha and Thanmatra. There was hardly any suspense in the second half. In both Kazhcha and Thanmatra, the movie ended leaving the viewer with positive and warm reflections on human nature and convincingly showed that love could get the better of adversity - but in Bhramaram, the ending was not nearly as heartwarming- though the director may have tried to bring in a positive feeling by projecting the goodness of forgiveness.

One Of The Greatest..............
raghupmna30 June 2009
THis Is Another Great Thriller From Blessy..............One Of the great Movie i have ever seen............Mohanlals Acting deserves Another State Award or more...and KPAC Lalitha's Acting was Awesome in dis movie ..............But still there is some Mistakes with the casting of the movie.....a good Malayalam movie after a long time. it reminds us about Padmarajan and Bharathan. this is again a classic kind of film by Blessy. the camera is brilliant. the newcomer Ajayvincients work is appreciable. and last but not d least Lalettan is simply superb in d film. Blessy had used Lalettan fully. thanks to Blessy, Lalettan and the whole crew for giving a new experience and a good movie for us........The baby who acted as Sivankuttis daughter, she is not well suitable for that role..and the Dubbing is also not very perfect..........The Movie Has a Heart Breaking Climax...........And Some Good Camera Work Too............Overall i give 8/10.

santhosh-1029011 May 2019
Good Movie. Mohanlal and everybody acted very well in the movie. The movie had no unwanted scenes but the movie was so slow that made the movie somewhat lagged at 2nd half. Songs and BGM in the movie were not so good. The movie was so interesting in 1st half. Good Movie.

waste of time...
learning_to_fly7727 September 2009
Bhramaram the latest "offering" from Blessy is sadly a failed attempt to be even considered as a road movie. It questions Blessy's cinematic knowledge, as I believe that he had not seen any good road movies. He would not have made this crap if at least he understood movies like Bharathan's "Thazhvaram", or Padmarajan's "Deshadanakili Karayarilla", or why those films are good in road movie genre. However, Blessy succeeded in making this film popular by wide advertisements and conducting "study camps" (study camps for this movie??!!). Blessy is the most pretentious and overrated director presently in the Malayalam cinema, he underlines it whenever he churns out craps like this. If this movie win any awards other than for lead actor, or cinematography, I will consider that moment of curse as the death of Malayalam film industry. Know, discourage, and avoid these Blessy-type hypocrites is my sole advise to the viewers.

overrated...!!!!!!
antophil17 July 2009
Only with the support of a tremendous camera work and the leading actor's brilliant performance, you cannot make a great movie..a perfect example is "Bhramaram." Mohanlal is talented and he delivered his one of the best performances..Ajayan Vincent is a craftsman and he did it brilliantly..so what was Blessy's role? Not forgetting the actors and technical crew are the tools of the Director, but only in case of great directors I strongly believe. Casting was awful (excluding Mohanlal) in Bhramaram. Child actor's (Mohanlal's daughter) "perfomance" makes us realize that we are sitting in a theater and watching just a movie. After a few minutes of curiosity from the opening, viewers starts to lose it. Sadly, Blessy failed to keep the thrill (at least the curiosity) until the climax. The "twist" is long before understood. Blessy should have to re-watch Padmarajan films before coming up with next crap, to learn how the Great Master keeps the viewers involved with the progress of the story-line in his movies. Bhramaram is an ordinary melodrama filled with "made up" and unnecessary scenes and an utter awful "acting" from it's co-stars.

Bhramaram – Review
faisel_ak11 July 2009
First and foremost before criticizing the movie "Bhramaram", let me emphasize and applaud Ayjan Vincent who had enriched one of the best camera work in the recent years.

Blessy had bounced back with flare by presenting a simple story with emotions, fabulous frames, hunting moments and above all with mohanlal power packed performance which is said to be the potency of the movie. No doubt that it is one of the best mohanlal performances which remain long and even after a decade in all viewers of good cinema.

In the technical side, the movie had remained of the best movie by achieving highest level of beauty in severely extreme conditions which suits the mood of the story in a huge way. The music and BG scores by Mohan Sithara which is remarkable and adds to the tempo of the proceedings with the song "Annarakanna"-will make you hum to its tunes and perfection of the movie.

Even though the worst part I feel in the movie is casting like Bhoomika, as Mohanlal's wife, and the child actor as mohanlal daughter fail to make any impact on audience, which is the one of the central character of the movie. The subject of the movie is different from the oft-repeated tales in Malayalam films. Even though, there are few holes in the plot and the director fail to maintain the continuity of thriller. Blessy's directorial skills and his sense of picturesque presentation are amazing in some frames of the movie. But in some other frames, he failed to create the mood suitable enough for an experimental genre. The movie is said to be lagging and crawl in certain portion. If he had a taut script, the movie could have been even better.

Albeit, the movie is a watchable movie for all who love that good middle stream movies promulgate in the eighties by Padmarajan, Bhrathan and co.

Too much overrated
krishnathulasianil28 October 2018
Watch it for MohanLal Sir and for the brilliant cinematography by Ajay Vincent. Apart from that, the director missed many thing. No cast except KPAC Lalitha wouldnt give atleast a fair stand against Mohanlal. Awful casting indeed. One line says it's a thriller, but I didn't find anything thrilling at all. Its just a coming of age drama.
