Storyline

Having sacked his Parliamentary Private Secretary, Urquhart casts about for a replacement. At the suggestion of Geoffrey Booza Pitt he gives serious consideration to backbench MP Claire Carlsen, despite the fact that she is carrying on an affair with Foreign Secretary Tom Makepeace. Claire is clearly playing both sides of the fence to ensure her own place in the hierarchy, regardless of what the future may hold. Urquhart decides the time has come to shake things up and forces Makepeace to resign, something his wife Elizabeth isn't sure is in their best interest. He also continues working on his legacies, dropping a good word in the ear of the British judge on the Cyprus boundary panel. Meanwhile, a young Greek-Cypriot woman, Maria Passolides, seeks Urquhart's assistance in solving the death of two uncles who were killed in Cyprus in the 1950s. Written by garykmcd

Trivia

In the 2nd part of The Final Cut, at time marker 0:04:44, Jeffrey Booza-Pitt and Claire Carlson is walking behind FU through the Parliament building. This occurs seconds before he is approached by Maria Passolides. Claire seems to be already FU's PPS. She is wearing the same outfit and scarf she wore in her interview with FU. However, she wasn't interviewed by FU until 0:12:30. She is carrying the same valise and such that she carries as a PPS and she is walking with FU as if he knows her enough to trust her near him, if you understand. We could be wrong about this, but having never seen Claire before with FU and then she is suddenly there with him, it seems that the scene is out of order, that it should have been after her interview and hiring at 0:17:33. Maybe there is another explanation. Another error, in part 3, Corder (0:46:55) has the voice recording of FU talking to Mattie. However, the original tape and the copy made from it got destroyed along with Tim Stamper and Sarah Harding in "To Play the King". See more »

Quotes

Elizabeth Urquhart: The Margaret Thatcher Memorial. Is there really no way of preventing it?
Francis Urquhart: It would seem not. It's all been paid for out of the foundation and the site was earmarked 15 years ago, apparently. For a time there seemed some possibility of putting it up in Grantham, where no one would have to look at it.
Elizabeth Urquhart: Except the unfortunate inhabitants. Where is Grantham anyway?
Francis Urquhart: No one seems quite sure.
