Jack Goes Undercover
14 September 2012 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Chloe and Dana finalize Jack's cover identity, German arms dealer "Ernst Meier," as Ziya transports Renee to Laitanin's hideout, his injured hand soothed by the promise of money. Jack remains nervous of Renee's condition, believing she is using this operation as a chance to act out a death wish. Despite Renee giving all the right answers to Vladimir's interrogation, he takes her and Ziya to the side of a river where he kills Ziya and gives Renee her last chance to tell the truth. Renee dares him to do it, claiming she has nothing else to live for besides this deal; as this is the truth, Vladimir agrees to work with her. President Hassan, returned safely to the UN Building, has essentially invoked martial law in his home country to prosecute those who were part of the plot to kill him; he emphasizes to President Taylor that this is necessary to retain his leadership. President Taylor, however, sees these human-rights violations as a serious enough reason to call off the peace talks with Hassan, and his wife, Dalia, leaves him, despite his pleas to stay. Finally, Bazhaev allows his son Josef to transport Oleg to a secluded location to die in relative comfort, but Josef has other ideas and takes Oleg to a clinic in Mount Vernon, where he obtains treatment from a doctor at gunpoint.

In summary, here the events that happened during that hour:

1.President Allison Taylor confronts Omar Hassan on the crackdown against dissenters underway in Kamistan, saying that it will delegitimize the peace accords.

2.Rob Weiss reports to the President that Farhad Hassan is attempting to acquire weapons-grade uranium.

3.Sergei Bazhaev promises Farhad will receive the fuel rods as soon as he is paid. Meanwhile, Josef Bazhaev brings his irradiated brother Oleg to Dr. Joel Levine for treatment, against his father's wishes.

4.Kevin Wade attacks Dana Walsh in her apartment, demanding that she use her access at CTU to provide him a payout of six figures.

5.Renee Walker prepares to go undercover with Vladimir Laitanan to track down the stolen fuel rods. Chloe O'Brian tells Jack that Laitanan apparently tried to rape Renee when she was undercover six years ago. When Renee and Laitanan meet, he becomes suspicious and orders her tied up and taken to a pier on the East River.

6.Jack Bauer asks for permission to take Renee out of the operation, since Laitanan failed to take the bait. However, Renee manages to convince Laitanan that she has nothing else to live for, and the cover holds.

Jack undergoes cover as an arms dealer to follow Renee on her mission as a cover of Vladimir Laitanin, the head of the Russian Mob.This is all with the help of Chloe. This increases the tension of Day 8.After deciding to take a retirement for good,he definitely has had no break and undergoes a lot for 5 hours in another longest day in his life.

As for President Omar Hassan,we see another character similar to that of Vice-President turned President Powers Boothe - a leader who does deal harshly on the traitors of his country.

Indeed,we are seeing one of the most violent seasons(if not the most) of 24.
