Chastain Wanted For "Mission: Impossible 5"?

6 hours ago | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Jessica Chastain ("Zero Dark Thirty," "The Help") is reportedly being sought for a starring role in the upcoming fifth "Mission: Impossible" film with Tom Cruise.

Schmoes Know, a site that has actually been consistently quite good lately on the casting scoop front, says Chastain has received an offer.

It's presently not known what the role will be in the Christopher McQuarrie-directed movie which is currently aiming to begin filming in August for a Christmas 2015 release.

Chastain was previously slated to work with Cruise on "Oblivion," but scheduling didn't pan out and Olga Kurylenko ultimately took her place. »

Summer 2014 Forecast (cont.)

16 hours ago | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

<< Continued from Summer Forecast: #1 - 1213. The Fault in our Stars (June 6): As usual, there's not a ton of compelling content for women this Summer. One exception to that is The Fault in Our Stars, which is a romantic drama based off the popular John Green novel. The trailer has over 15 million views on YouTube*in line with most would-be blockbusters*and star Shailene Woodley is coming off a break-out role in Divergent. Look for this to be a solid hit as well. (Domestic: $120 million, Foreign: $55 million)14. Deliver Us From Evil (July 2): Horror movies can provide a nice alternative to all of the big-budget spectacle, R-rated humor, and animated fare that dominates multiplexes during the Summer months. Last year's The Conjuring was a surprise hit with $137.4 million; if anything is going to match that this year, its Deliver Us from Evil. The strong trailer features a lengthy, very frightening »

'Jurassic World': See the first images from the set of next summer's dinosaur flick -- Exclusive

19 hours ago | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

On April 14, filming began on Jurassic World, the fourth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise (due June 12, 2015), and EW has already scored the very first photos from the secretive set in Hawaii. Details on World — which stars Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help) and Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation) and is exec-produced by Steven Spielberg — are scarce, but director Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) promises plenty of paleontological action. “Yesterday I was under a construction crane with Chris Pratt, covered with dirt, eyeballing the exact height of the dinosaur trying to kill him,” he says. “We both cracked up laughing. Jessica Chastain To Play Marilyn Monroe

22 April 2014 9:54 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Jessica Chastain ("The Help," "Zero Dark Thirty") is nearing a deal to play Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik's passion project "Blonde" for Plan B and Worldview Entertainment.

Based on the imaginary Monroe memoirs "Blonde" by Joyce Carol Oates, the story looks at the "imagined inner life of the iconic actress".

Naomi Watts was previously attached to play Monroe in an earlier incarnation of the project back in 2010. Brad Pitt will produce and was reportedly instrumental in convincing Chastain to tackle the challenging role.

Production is expected to start in August.

Jessica Chastain to star as Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik's 'Blonde'

22 April 2014 3:48 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

I've been fascinated by Andrew Dominik's "Blonde," based on the Joyce Carol Oates book about Marilyn Monroe, for some time. A book like that, steeped in the division between myth and reality, wading into some dark corners, seems perfectly suited for the man who brought us the most complex take on the outlaw Jesse James to date with his 2007 masterpiece "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford." Speculation has run rampant as to who would play Monroe in the film, and today, it looks like we have an answer, and that answer is Jessica Chastain. For some time, I wasn't even looking in Chastain's direction, to be perfectly honest. Naomi Watts was in the mix at one point. I was expecting any of a number of other actresses. Then Dominik let it slip in February that Chastain was at the top of his list. That happened »

Jessica Chastain Replaces Naomi Watts as Marilyn Monroe in 'Blonde'

22 April 2014 3:21 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Nearly four years ago, Naomi Watts was tapped to play Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, an adaptation of the book of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates that will be directed by Andrew Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford). However, the actress seems to have fallen away from the project with The Wrap reporting that Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty, The Help) is now getting close to a deal to play the iconic actress. Unlike My Week with Marilyn starring Michelle Williams, this aims to be a more extensive look at Monroe's life, but with a twist from the source material. The book in question is referred to as a fake memoir because it takes the liberty of being told from the point of view of Monroe with the names of certain well-known male suitors changed to vague descriptions including The Ex-Athlete (Joe Dimaggio »

Martin Luther King Biopic 'Selma' Finds Its Coretta Scott King

13 April 2014 10:15 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Two major projects involving the life and times of Martin Luther King Jr. have tried and failed to make their way into production over the course of the last couple of years. First there was the Paul Greengrass project Memphis, which was passed on by Universal and Sony alike, only to go forward as an independent picture. Then there's Selma, a project formerly headed by Lee Daniels and star David Oyelowo (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Help, Lee Daniel's The Butler) as Martin Luther King, Jr. After many starts and stops four years later, the project is still a go with another director and Oyelowo still in the lead, and now, The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop that the key role of Coretta Scott King has also been cast. Carmen Ejogo (Alex Cross, Sparkle, The Purge: Anarchy) has been signed to play Ms. King, who served »

And now our semi-weekly check in with actresses we love. Where / What / Who are they up to?

Brie

Brie Larson has accepted an offer to star in the psychological horror drama as "Ma", about a woman who's trapped in her father's basement for years with her son. It's based on the novel by Emma Donoghue who also did the screenplay but the novel is narrated by the 5 year old child who's only ever known this one room so that one's going to be tricky to make breathe as a film. This seems a better fit for her dramatic gifts than that dumb Terminator reboot she lost out on. The actress is in demand now post Short Term 12 as well she should be. She's also got The Gambler remake and the comedy Trainwreck coming out. Room is not the only novel adaptation she's attached to. She'll probably co-star in The »

‘Jurassic World’ Adds Judy Greer and Two More Cast Members

The topic of diversity in film casting is very much a hot-button issue nowadays, but no matter what your feelings on the matter are, there’s no denying that mixing things up actor-wise can help your movie cast a wider net in terms of demographic appeal – something that the Fast and the Furious franchise and superhero properties have caught onto in recent years, as have other blockbuster projects like the upcoming Jurassic Park installment, Jurassic World.

Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help) will anchor the next chapter in the dinosaur adventure series. Judy Greer To Enter ‘Jurassic World’

4 April 2014 1:12 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

When I think of Judy Greer, I think of ‘secondary character’. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her feature in a main role; she’s nearly always the ‘funny best friend’ or ‘the woman the hero doesn’t really want’. However, things may be about to change as news has surfaced that she has signed on to star in Jurassic World.

Directed by Colin Trevorrow (the man behind the brilliant Safety Not Guaranteed), the cast already features Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help), Chris Pratt (Guardians Of The Galaxy), Nick Robinson (The Kings Of Summer), Jake Johnson (New Girl), Ty Simpkins (Insidious), Bd Wong (Law And Order: Special Victims Unit), Irrfan Khan (Life Of Pi), Vincent D’Onofrio (Law And Order: Criminal Intent), and fellow newbie members Lauren Lapkus (Orange Is The New Black) and Katie McGrath (Merlin). With original director Steven Spielberg as executive producer, this is set to be stunning! »

Octavia Spencer to tackle story of real-life race riot for Own miniseries

3 April 2014 12:24 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Let no one accuse Oprah Winfrey of letting her Own channel become the unofficial Tyler Perry network. Now comes word that Own is developing "Tulsa" (working title), a two-night miniseries set to star Oscar winner Octavia Spencer ("The Help"). The miniseries will tell the story of the largest race riot in U.S. history, during which 300 people are believed to have been murdered. With Spencer's name above the title, we can't help but think this is sure to be Emmy Awards bait.  Describing this as "a story that was largely covered up for decades," Own says that Spencer will be playing the role of Mattie Clay, a journalist who moves back to Tulsa after a stint in Chicago where she must "face the demons of her past and decide where her future lies." The miniseries will be executive produced by Nancy Miller ("Saving Grace"), and co-executive producers are Valerie Woods »
