Heartbreaking and halarious ride through LA culture!
shimmysaunders27 November 2021
Awesome. Hadn't had this much fun watching a doc since tiger king. Loved the pacing and glad they went down a mini rabbit hole with everyone involved. Wild story and I very surprised how much I felt for the characters by the end. Did a great job showing all sides of the story and treated everyone with respect. Loved it!

Surprised By Low Ratings
jimsweezey27 November 2021
Some reviewers shouldn't be leaving them if they didn't bother to watch the whole thing. I remember when Von Dutch blew up as a kid so maybe that's why I enjoyed it but it was still an interesting story. Shows the many sides of a business and how ruthless it can be. It's only 3 episodes so it's not a long ride but I enjoyed it.

SweeZ.

Entirely too long
missmonamesha29 November 2021
This could've been a 2 hour show. Dragged out and boring dialogue for nothing. It's an interesting story but SHEESH! Maybe they made more money by making its this long.

Fascinating Subject
siesta-508455 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My rating is based on how fascinating all of the people are and how this story developed rather than the quality of the doc itself. The filmmaking isn't bad, but as far as docs go, it's just average. The real standout here are the subjects, including Von Dutch himself, and how this could only happen in LA. I was slightly amused that Ed Boswell got revenge on all of them in the end. Karma is a bitch. This should've been called The Karma of Von Dutch.

All the ppl that rated this low admit they didn't have the patience or IQ to make it through 3 episodes.

Never knew much about this brand but the story if true is a bit crazy

Interesting story, not sure how much of it is trumped up and exaggerated for the series, but an interesting watch regardless.

7.3.

Marginally interesting story, a little sensationalized by the characters that got out done by business men.
murfdigidy-546898 May 2023
Well I don't agree that this could have done been done in a half hour, I do agree they probably could have cut this in half, maybe an hour and a half. It's an okay story about a brand that ended up making millions for a short time, and as fast it became popular, it fizzled into nothing.

This is a classic story where no name non-business people get out done by people that know how to make a buck. Then the people claiming that they got screwed by the businessmen, essentially screwed themselves by not being smart enough to navigate the business side of a great idea.

I don't blame the dude who made millions, the guys who started the brand simply made poor decisions and never executed on what they had. The story was sensationalized a bit but worth a watch.

A lovely blend of fate, privilege and politics
brainsybeauty21 November 2021
If you can't see everything I noted in the headline of this review, you need to get out more. Tells the story of fate, butterfly affect, the privileged, the underserved and how the two world's collide. It hopefully raises awareness and curiosity of unconventional creators vs. Conventional capitalists while maintaining the human element of all the key players.

Not interesting enough for 3 hours
gamblor-2024523 November 2021
This whole story could have been told in probably 30 minutes and it might have been interesting, but it's dragged out over 3 hours with mostly interviews of stupid people telling boring stories irrelevant to the storyline. It's a desperate attempt to make an interesting story out of something not that interesting.

This Doc Had Everything!
reggiedunlop-3130825 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Great doc, had everything, from celebrity to murder, drugs, money and backstabbing! Cannot believe the brand was so famous, I remember seeing pics of celebrities wearing the hat but had no idea there was so much appeal to the brand. The pace was done very well and made me want to watch until the end as it seemed impossible all of the main players made it out alive. The perfect clash of street smarts meets business acumen, only wish they didn't screw each other over so much as it could have been a relevant brand today. The best was nobody was an innocent party, all had a role in the madness that made this blow up. Two thumbs up!

Wow
helenahandbasket-9373420 November 2021
How the producers managed to find every single illiterate, drugged-out, moronic, idiot that supposedly were creators of VD is no small feat.

The whole first episode is straight garbage- don't waste your time.

Some True Crime Shows
corkidecat26 November 2021
Can be very boring when you stretch the story out to make a mini series out of it, especially when ALL the characters are so unlikeable. Stopped watching after one episode.

Ehhh
takirah2611 December 2021
The documentary was good. The story was good. The person who ruined everything was Bobby. He is a terrible story teller. It was like listening to a 6th grader. He speaks like he's 10. There was no eloquence to his stories and it was just horrible. Other than that the show was good. Learned a lot about the brand.

Tried this because LulaRich was good..
tlharrison-595463 December 2021
I thought it would be interesting. It's not. 15 minutes in and there are just constant jump-cuts, super slow introductions of people as if these filmmakers expected the audience to be on the edge of our seats, and someone working on this movie just wanting to showcase their music library. The music is nonstop. If that's not bad enough, now they are showing someone smoke their drugs. No thanks.

Haven't watched it, but...
pswanson0012 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have wondered often how many people associated with this company have ever heard the name Kenny Howard, the real Von Dutch. He was a pioneer pinstriper, vehicle customizer, knife maker, and gunsmith, an all-around craftsman. From what I've seen, no one associated with this brand is worthy of carrying Kenny's tool box.

Not too bad. I guess.
sailorjjr1 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Never heard of Von Dutch, or really any of the people associated with it. I think this is based off an old Nursery Rhyme, called "Three Blind Mice."

Geezus, could these people be any worse and running a business? If not for the Tonny's wife's money, this would have died a much quicker death. But he walked into a situation made up of drug addict idiots.

Funny to watch. The pony tailed a-hole that liked to beat friends up should have been put down a lot earlier in the show. And in life.
