Episode cast overview, first billed only:

Set in New York City, Jack Bauer is unwillingly drawn back into action just as President Allison Taylor negotiates international security with Omar Hassan, a determined Middle Eastern leader visiting the U.S. on a peacemaking mission. As the new day unfolds, an upgraded CTU operates under the command of M.B.A.-schooled, razor-sharp head honcho Brian Hastings, who supervises quirky Chloe O'Brian, expert data analyst Dana Walsh and systems analyst Arlo Glass. Jack Is Recalled From Retirement
14 September 2012 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Set 18 months after Day 7, the story arc involves Jack Bauer contending with assassination threats. It is set in New York City, with CTU's New York City Office having been re-activated.

Victor Aruz returns home to find that he is being targeted for assassination by a Russian operative named Davros. He seeks help from Jack Bauer, interrupting Jack's decision to fly back to L.A. to live out a quiet life with Kim, her husband Stephen and daughter Teri. Aruz claims that President Hassan of the Islamic Republic of Kamistan, who is currently at the UN Building working on an arms treaty with President Taylor, is going to be assassinated soon; he and his confederates helped smuggle Davros into the country and are now being killed for that reason. Jack, despite support from CTU director Brian Hastings and Field Ops director Cole Ortiz, is unable to transport Aruz to custody before Davros kills him. Aruz tells Jack that the assassin has a mole close to Hassan, but can reveal nothing more before he dies. This mole is implied to be reporter Meredith Reed, who is having an affair with Hassan and causing tension between him and his brother and chief of staff, Farhad.

In summary, here the events that happened during that hour:

1.With his treatment finished, Jack Bauer tells his daughter Kim that he's ready to move back to Los Angeles with her. President Allison Taylor meets with President Omar Hassan to finalize plans for an historic peace treaty between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Kamistan.

2.President Omar Hassan worries about the possible impact of his involvement with journalist Meredith Reed.

3.At CTU NY, Brian Hastings receives a call from Jack asking him for both immunity and a helicopter pickup for Victor Aruz, an old informant who claims to have information on an assassination attempt against President Hassan. Unfortunately, the helicopter is taken out with a rocket, killing Aruz before he can tell Jack who inside Hassan's circle is conspiring against him.

Jack Bauer is about to permanently retire at Los Angeles. He is currently at New York spending time with his daughter's family. But he is called back to action for a mission to fulfill.

Day 8 starts with a new location and introduction of new villains and characters. But unfortunately,it does not start with a bang.Nor did the show feel refreshing as many rehashed elements from previous seasons are being used in the beginning.Anyway,I still expect a great show ahead in this final season.
