Matt Nable Cast As Ra’s Al Ghul In ‘Arrow’

7 September 2014 1:00 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

It has been known for quite some time now that the main antagonist of Arrow‘s third season would be none other than Ra’s Al Ghul (previously played by Liam Neeson in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy). However, the big question on every fans lips has been in regards to which actor will fill the incredibly large shoes left by Neeson, and craft their own unique interpretation of the character for the small screen.

Now, that question has finally been answered and Stephen Amell has revealed on his official Twitter which actor will take on the role of Ra’s Al Ghul. Despite the fact that Neeson recently stated his desire to reprise the role, Arrow producers clearly want to leave their own mark on the character and have therefore cast a relatively fresh face in the part. Former footballer Matt Nable is the man tasked with filling »

Arrow Hires Actor to Play Ra's al Ghul, It's Not Liam Neeson

6 September 2014 5:22 AM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

During the San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that the main villain in the third season of "Arrow" TV series will be Ra's al Ghul, the character that Liam Neeson played in "Batman Begins." Just recently, Neeson was asked if he had any interest in reprising the role on television. He said that he would do it "in a heartbeat." But that was probably just talk, because it was just announced that Ra's al Ghul will be played by actor Matthew Nable (Killer Elite, Riddick). The new season of "Arrow" is set to premiere on October 8th. »

Arrow Finds Its Ra's al Ghul

5 September 2014 9:30 AM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Some of you might be disappointed to hear that Liam Neeson will not reprise his role as Ra's al Ghul in Arrow even though he recently told MTV that he'd gladly play the character again. When asked if he’d reprise the character he gave an overwhelmingly positive answer.

"I would, in a heartbeat, if it came my way, yeah. Very much so."

The CW didn't take advantage of that opportunity, though. Instead they cast an actor by the name of Matt Nable. He's a rugby player who became an actor, and he's starred in films such as Riddick and Killer Elite. The news was announced by the show's star Stephen Amell.

Ra's al Ghul was teased for the first time for Arrow at San Diego Comic-Con in July. You can see that tease here.

Arrow is a great series, and it's fun to watch the story and characters expand. »

Series star Stephen Amell announced on his Twitter page today that Matt Nable has signed on to play the League of Shadows founder, although it still isn't known when we'll first see him in Season 3.

The CW Network announced at Comic-Con 2014 that Ra's al Ghul will be the primary Season 3 nemesis for Oliver Queen, although he was hinted at a number of different times in Season 2, including the presence of his daughter Nyssa (Katrina Law).

‘Arrow’ Casts ‘Riddick’s Matt Nable as Ra’s al Ghul

4 September 2014 12:51 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Even casual comic book fans realized that The CW wasn’t kidding around with its DC Comics properties when they revealed that Arrow‘s Season 3 would be getting a new central antagonist in the form of Ra’s al Ghul (a part made famous on film by Liam Neeson in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy). Not long after Neeson claimed he’d be happy to reprise the role, the actual actor set to bring the character to life has been revealed: relative newcomer Matt Nable (Riddick, Killer Elite).

According to Deadline, the Australian former-Rugby League footballer has landed the part after arriving on the scene in his first role in 2007. The actor may ...

The CW's 'Arrow' finds its Ra's Al Ghul and it's not Liam Neeson

4 September 2014 12:38 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Liam Neeson may have told reporters last week that he would gladly reprise his role as Ra's Al Ghul for The CW's "Arrow," but to the surprise of literally nobody a different actor has been set for the part. On Thursday (September 4) morning, "Arrow" star Stephen Amell coyly tweeted "Please welcome Matt Nable to Arrow. You know who he's playing." And in case you didn't know who he's playing, Amell included a picture of DC Comics' supervillain and League of Assassins frontman Ra's Al Ghul, most famously played by Neeson in "Batman Begins." In July at San Diego's Comic-Con, Wbtv and "Arrow" announced that Ra's Al Ghul would be playing a key role this season. The news came at the end of a clip package that showcased how central Ra's Al Ghul and the League of Assassins have already been to the show's mythology, with ties to John Barrowman »

The top 25 greatest Jason Statham films

14 August 2014 2:15 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

How do you rank perfection? Duncan has a go, as he lists the top 25 Jason Statham films...

For regular Den Of Geek readers, it will come as little surprise to see this list come round. We've chosen our favourite Statham films before, but such is the productivity of the great man, it was decided that a mere top ten was no longer large enough to contain his ever growing body of work. Last time I mentioned updating this piece to the man himself back in 2012 due to his insane workload, he cracked up and responded, “My productivity is overwhelming! 'Have a fucking day off!'”

Since this list has now expanded to encompass 25 of his movies, it seemed only right to include multiple sequels, with his big trio of action franchises all spawning some thoroughly entertaining fare worthy of mention, though I’ve tried to exclude the personal bias that »

Clive Owen explains his 'Knick' mustache and being 'The David Bowie of a Hospital in 1900'

1 August 2014 9:05 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

A couple weeks ago at the TCA press tour, I sat down with Clive Owen and Steven Soderbergh for a 45-minute discussion about their new Cinemax series "The Knick," a medical drama set around New York's Knickerbocker Hospital in 1900. Soderbergh directed the totality of the first season, which focuses on Owen's Dr. John W. Thackery, a visionary surgeon who augments his forward-thinking approach to his profession with additions to cocaine and opium. As you might expect, it's a wide-ranging interview covering the show's journey to Cinemax, the approach to the occasionally harrowing medical rituals of the period, the pressures of doing five two-hour movies consecutively and the decision to use a trippy score by Cliff Martinez. It's a great interview and it'll go up sometime next week, ahead of the show's August 8 premiere on Cinemax. While the full Q&A will be posted, I wanted to whet appetites with a »

12 Actors Who Basically Guarantee You Make A Flop

30 July 2014 8:13 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Disney

The term “box office poison” is one synonymous with actors who, for a multitude of reasons, just can’t seem to catch a break. Despite each of these performers having a significant enough profile with audiences, there’s something about them that just doesn’t entice people to go catch their latest movies, and as a result, they’ve endured a string of financially unsuccessful efforts, regardless of the critical acclaim they may have acquired (in some cases, at least).

Hiring these actors will, for the most part, result in a movie failing to gather any financial traction whatsoever, and while we can’t discount the fact that some of these actors willfully picked art over commerce, there’s no denying the fact that a string of monetary flops will do little to help any actor’s career.

Some of these performers are at least lucky enough to do well from animated fare, »

Blu-ray Release Date: June 10, 2014

Price: Blu-ray $29.95

Studio: Twilight Time

Charles Bronson is The Mechanic.

The 1972 thriller The Mechanic starring Charles Bronson—which was remade (unremarkably) by Simon West in 2011 as a star vehicle for Jason Statham (Killer Elite)—makes its Blu-ray debut from Twilight Time.

Directed by Michael Winner, The Mechanic stars Charles Bronson (Hard Times, The Great Escape) as a hardened professional hitman who’s feeling the strains of his profession. He joins forces with a ruthless up-and-comer (Jan-Michael Vincent, Damnation Alley) in a partnership that wavers between sustaining and profoundly dangerous…particularly when they get involved in a couple of tricky contracts.

Still considered by many to be the ultimate hitman flick, The Mechanic features a memorable score by the ever-prolific Jerry Fielding, available on this Twilight Time release as an isolated track.

Last Action Heroesc Has the Macho, Action Genre Hit a Low Pointc

1 April 2014 9:25 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I didn't quite know how to describe the genre I'm referring to with this post (BoxOfficeMojo doesn't even have a category for it), but suffice to say I'm particularly targeting the films made popular by the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone back in the '80s and more recently it seems Jason Statham had a lock down on things. Now, however, it only seems Liam Neeson can really generate any box-office juice with his cinematic fisticuffs, otherwise it has to be an ensemble or nothing. I ask because ever since Schwarzenegger made his way back to movies after playing Governor for eight years, he's seen The Last Stand, Escape Plan and this past weekend's Sabotage tank at the box office. Similarly, Stallone has seen Bullet to the Head, Escape Plan and Grudge Match bomb at the box office and Statham has seen a string of non-starters including Killer Elite, »

Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche get flirty in 'Words and Pictures' trailer

Clive Owen may be best-known for punching faces and getting gritty in films like "Shoot 'em Up," "Killer Elite" and "Children of Men," but he really just wants to meet-cute with sexy French Oscar winner Juliette Binoche. In the new trailer for the upcoming romantic comedy "Words and Pictures," the endlessly charming duo trade witticisms and flirtatious looks as two struggling intellectuals -- one a writer, the other a painter -- teaching at an American Liberal Arts college. Can they inspire each other to create some thing new? Will they fall in love? Have you ever seen a movie before?  Watch the trailer here: It was directed by comedy veteran Fred Schepisi ("Six Degrees of Separation," "Roxanne"). "Words and Pictures" opens May 23.  »
