This final episode of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" brought just the right amount of laughs and smiles
10 June 2009 | by (Baton Rouge, La.) – See all my reviews

The last "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" began with Jay's regular monologue with potential Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayer leading the topics. Leno also mentions his new 10pm show which will remain at NBC, assuming the network is still around. At the desk, he shows clips of the best of "Jaywalking" and "Jaywalk All-Stars". Conan O'Brien is the first guest and he shows a clip of him disguising himself in order to interview some elder people for their reactions to his previous "Late Night" show. One laughs, one doesn't. (By the way, that segment finally aired in its entirety last night on Conan's "Tonight Show") Just after one audience member says, "Conan rocks!", Jay accompanies his successor off-stage before commercial. Then James Taylor shows up as the very last guest of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" singing Jay's favorite song, "Sweet Baby James". Finally, Leno brings a surprise: He reveals that many of his staff married each other during the show's 17 years and in answer of what his legacy is, he reveals 68 offspring of that staff and says that someday when their children ask where they met, they'll say they met on "The Tonight Show"...This was a pretty entertaining farewell for Mr. Leno with plenty of wonderful laughs and fine sentiment for such a nice guy. And I loved that promo with Leno riding in his car with "10" on the door and "9 Central" near the trunk! And on that note, I'll indeed see you at 9 in September, Mr. Leno.
