The Brave and the Bold is the show that the world wants to see!

Or it should be, anyway.

This was a marvellous episode. I was worried that it would take an appreciation of both theatre and cheese to enjoy it, and having seen the minority of the critical reception, I was right. With most, though, I think this is a resounding success. It is so because it's so very self aware in such an undeniably fun and self aware way.

It's so clever that it's hard not to be swept along with it. I think younger audiences simply won't understand what they're doing not having been exposed to the sillier side of theatre (especially theatrical parody), and there are those who've such a compulsive obsession with seriousness that they won't give it the time of day. It's not meant for them.

This is the heart and soul of the gold and silver ages embraced in a way that's not at all patronising or misguided. It understands what it wants to be and embraces that identity with all of the modern lustre it can. And it's so very good.

It'll fly over some heads, but it'll result in a wry smile on the faces of many more. Give it a look. Definitely one for the older and wiser among us, this.

What a Pleasant Surprise!

Warning: Spoilers
I had never before seen an episode of Batman: the Brave and the Bold until I happened upon the Music Meister episode. When the singing started, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to see Batman sing. That, and I thought I recognized Neil Patrick Harris' voice (which I did).

In a franchise full of drama, action, and serious facial expressions, this was a welcome departure into the world of humor and upbeat melodies. The music was catchy and clever, and seeing these normally grave faces light up with song was completely hilarious. The earmuff solution reminded me of the days of Adam West's Batman, where such plans are no laughing matter. That made it even more hilarious!

I laud the makers of this episode for taking a break from the Gotham darkness to have some fun. After all, if you can't laugh at yourself, there's really no point in going on.

Batman the Musical
hellraiser719 June 2016
I'll admit this is something I never thought I would see in a million years. I'm personally not a big fan of musicals, there are a few that I like like "Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog", "Rocky Horror Picture Show", etc. But this surprisingly is another accept ion I make because it's actually good.

Not much to say, really liked Neil Pactrick Harris as the Music Meister, he kinds looks like Paul Williams from "Phantom of the Paradise" from that hair to the amount of different outfits he had.

But of course what really makes this episode are the song scenes, two of my favorites that stand out were "Drives us Bats". It was just a really fun and exciting song, though what was really funny and surreal was seeing the great amount of villains providing the chorus line.

Though I really love that song from Black Canary which was just beautiful; Grey Desale really can sing. It was a love song but it was just sweet and has a Broadway quality to it. Though what made it better was when she sang it again and another joined it, I won't say who but if you know your DC comics then you already know.

This episode carries a sweet tune.

"Was the singing really necessary?"

Fancy something different?

Well, somebody did, and when Gorilla Grodd and co. raid a satellite launch, only to come face-to-face with Green Arrow, Aquaman and Black Canary, song and dance takes centre stage.

I've seen the classics with Adam West and Burt Ward, the Keaton films, the Kilmer and Clooney ones which almost killed Batman Forever, the awesome 90's cartoon series, the poor, over-hyped latest blockbusters as well as the last TV cartoon series, and simply put: this episode is the best installment in the filmed Batman catelogue. Yep, it's that good.

So, without giving the plot away, just know that the Music Meister (fans now ask, "The WHO?!") sings the song that the world wants to hear... and it's actually true, so give this episode a chance. You won't regret it.

A tip for musical episodes of TV shows make the songs good, not completely god awful
dregj15 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
A strange badly dressed villain uses his music to get the heroes to do his bidding.Batman wearing bat ear mufflers is immune and must stop his allies from helping the villains nefarious scheme. Now with the plot out of the way we can discuss the music of this musical episode. Since the episode hinges on catchy clever songs its important to take note the the songs vary wildly from below average through boring to down right appalling.Watching this was painful after the initial buzz of a musical ep wears off (tens seconds in) you quickly realise that the writers have put no extra time or effort into this episode than any other. The songs are really slapped together in a "as long as it rhymes" kinda way. I would suggest watching the buffy episode once more with feeling to know how a musical is supposed to be conducted or failing that you can look up the end of the justice league unlimited episode this little piggy. this however is completely unwatchable
