Storyline

This film is set in 2093 and takes place in the same universe as the 'Alien' movies. A group of explorers, including some archaeologists, are on an "undisclosed" mission. They arrive at a moon trillions of miles away from Earth. The team spot what they believe to be signs of civilization. They go to investigate and find more than just signs, they find conclusive evidence. But some of them have an ulterior motive for being there, including the Weyland Corporation. They believe that this is where the human race actually came from. Things soon turn from excitement to survival once inside their discovery. Written by Michael Hallows Eve

Trivia

The first film to feature two actors who played Charlotte Brontë's creation of Edward Rochester in two different literary adaptations involving the same character in the same cast. Rafe Spall played Edward Rochester in Wide Sargasso Sea (2006) and Michael Fassbender played the same role in Jane Eyre (2011). See more »

Goofs

Despite being set 30 years before the events of Alien, the technology available to the crew on board the Prometheus seems to be far more advanced than anything seen in the 1979 movie. However, the Prometheus is a state-of-the-art science vessel, whereas the Nostromo is simply a cargo towing vehicle that does not require as much high-technology (it would be like comparing a fishing trawler to a nuclear submarine). By the time of Alien, the Nostromo is clearly an old ship. It could well have been made even before the Prometheus was. See more »

Not what I was hoping for
17 June 2012 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

It's good to see that Ridley Scott still has the same vision for stylistic sets and atmospheric lighting.Lots of dripping water and eery shadows as one might expect from the old master. The special effects are impressive, the CGI is great, the technology is plausible for the turn of the next century. But - and I'm afraid it's a big but - the plot is disjointed, the characters two dimensional and the script is, well, not the best. Far too many things happen which simply make no sense at all, or just don't tally with "what we know already" about the Alien universe. Far too many plot mechanisms, bits of tech and even shots and scenes are borrowed from other films - Serenity, independence day, The Mummy, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, Pitch Black, X- Files. I won't go into detail because I can't do that without using spoilers, but try it yourself. Watch the film and see how many ripped off bits you can spot. Spectacular, yes. A great film? No. sadly not.
