Poster and Concept Art for Dreamworks’ Rise of the Guardians

23 December 2011 10:39 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

How’s this for a plot: Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost and the Sandman band together to form a united front against the Bogeyman. That’s the premise of Dreamworks’ new CG movie “Rise of the Guardians”, based on the upcoming series of young adult fantasy novels by William Joyce (and not to be mistaken with the talking CG owl movie “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” by Zack Snyder, itself based on a series of young adult fantasy novels). The film will feature the voice talents of Jude Law as the villain, Pitch, with Hugh Jackman as The Easter Bunny, Isla Fisher as The Tooth Fairy, Chris Pine as Jack Frost, and Alec Baldwin as, we’re told, a Russian-accented Santa Claus. There is another character called The Sandman, described as “a silent, Buddhalike character”. Peter Ramsey is co-directing along with Joyce. »

Santa Ready to Kick Butt in New Poster for Rise of the Guardians

20 December 2011 7:15 AM, PST | Movie Cultists | See recent Movie Cultists news »

What do Santa and the Easter Bunny do when they’re not taking care of their respective holidays? They’re teaming up with the Tooth Fairy and a few other childhood legends to defend the world’s children from the evil BoogeyMan, and the new poster for Rise of the Guardians reveals that Santa is ready to kick some butt.

Rise of the Guardians, based on the Guardians of Childhood book series written by William Joyce, is being adapted for the screen by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay and is executive produced by Guillermo del Toro and Michael Siegel, so this animated feature is serious business. Is the world ready for a Santa Claus that does more than deliver presents to all the good children in the world? We’ll have to wait and see, but I have to admit that I’m intrigued by the idea.

Dreamworks Rise Of The Guardians New Teaser Poster

19 December 2011 3:05 PM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Dreamworks animation team are still working on something rather inventive by bringing together a troop of childhood heroes to fight evil. Rise Of The Guardians is based upon William Joyce’s Guardians of Childhood and will unite Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost and the Sandman in a fight against the dark side of the imagination but more specifically…the Bogeyman.

It’s directed by Peter Ramsey and William Joyce plus they’ve already got Alec Baldwin adding his voice talent to Santa or Nicholas St North as he’ll be known in this adaptation, plus Jude Law is the baddie Bogeyman or ‘Pitch’. Furthermore there’s Isla Fisher, Hugh Jackman and Chris Pine for the other roles of Tooth (The Tooth Fairy), Bunnymund (The Easter Bunny) and Pine as Jack Frost.

This is the first time I'm hearing about Rise Of The Guardians. Not to be confused with the Zack Snyder animated owl movie. I'm sure that's what people will think of when they hear the title. The animated film from Dreamworks is based on .The Guardians of Childhood,. a series of highly anticipated children.s books by William Joyce. DreamWorks Animation has debuted the first poster for Rise of the Guardians, an adaptation of the recently released books by William Joyce. The film will be directed by Peter Ramsey (Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space) and co-directed by Joyce and has already been set for a November 21, 2012 release with voices provided by Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law. David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole) penned the screenplay and I'm sure one of the film's draws will be the fact Guillermo del Toro is serving as one of the executive producers. The story follows a group of heroes -- Alec Baldwin as North (Santa Claus), Hugh Jackman as Bunnymund (Easter Bunny) and Isla Fisher as Tooth (Tooth Fairy) -- each with extraordinary abilities. The top 25 must-see movies of 2012

8 December 2011 2:25 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Next year’s full to bursting with exciting movies, so to help out a little, here’s our pick of 25 must-see movies out in 2012…

As 2011 draws to a close, one eye is inevitably on the treats that are lying ahead for 2012. With that in mind, we've got our line-up of, as things stands, the 25 films that are brightest on our radar.

Now, a couple of disclaimers.

There are films that haven't made the cut here simply because we don't know a fat lot about them yet, or at least not enough to get us fired up. Jack The Giant Killer, Rise Of The Guardians, Red Tails, Chronicle and Dark Shadows all fit into that category.

Plus there are the films that we suspect will turn out strongly, but what we've seen of them so far hasn't blown us away (Brave, Skyfall). Then there are the potential hidden gems (ParaNorman) we'll »

How 2012 is shaping up to be a golden year for animated movies

1 November 2011 7:42 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Mainstream animation is thriving right now. But, as he looks ahead to some of the treats in store for 2012, Simon wonders if it's going to get even better...

There’s a school of thinking that, right now, we’re going through something of a second golden age of animation. The difference this time, though, is that this isn’t being driven by one company. Rather, that for the first time in the history, the mainstream movie animation industry has at least eleven companies capable of producing a strong animated movie.

If you want proof of that, firstly, take a glance at this year. Ilm burst into the animation industry (an area where it’s arguably existed for some time) with the superb Rango (still in my top five films of the year, and still thoroughly awesome), for starters.

We’ve also had Disney going close to its roots with Winnie The Pooh and Tangled, »
