Cool. Killer Cool :-)

This is one very funny & quite racy action thriller with a lesser known star cast to the worldwide viewers but who gets together to entertain us well.

There are F's and B's flying from all the characters' mouth so many times that it's futile to keep count but when all the filthy language is mixed with loads of humour, we end up having a fun time.

Most of the acting is forgettable but the movie covers up for that, thanks to the fast-paced action scenes, the hand combats, the humour and of course the nudity :)

Only the female actors really stood out here. Janet McTeer as the hired assassin Helen Bingham shows a deadly balance of motherly care and ruthless violence! Paz Vega as the escort Catalina is just crazy HOT!

Verdict: I never expected Cat Run to be this fun. But ya, adult viewing only ;)

Humorous and slightly entertaining, but lacking overall.

There are times when you say to yourself that you want to watch a movie, but you're feeling a little more adventurous than usual. Maybe you feel like watching that low budget horror flick that nobody has ever heard of or would rather see that independent thriller starring that one guy you liked in that other film instead of a big budget Hollywood movie. Sometimes seeing a film that is stripped of all the bells and whistles that most Hollywood blockbusters have reminds you of what a well written, well directed, or well acted film can actually be. That was my initial mindset with Cat Run. I had never even heard of the film until last week when I checked out the restricted trailer (which does contain adult content) for the film. While the film may be intriguing on the surface, the final verdict is that the film is lacking the depth of the films it may remind you of but may still be worth a look if you're a fan of R-rated action comedies.

Cat Run did a fairly good job of juggling being both humorous and practically making you feel squeamish from the brutal violence shown on screen. Most of the humor in the film is aimed towards the male perspective, so you'll probably find something in there worth laughing at at some point. Julian (Alphonso McAuley) is also the comic relief of the film and he does have his moments that'll make you laugh out loud. Meanwhile Helen Bingham (Janet McTeer) is one of the coolest assassins to be introduced in a film in quite some time. She's English and is all about being polite and minding manners, but is also incredibly ruthless. The various different types of torture she applies to others just to receive information is a bit shocking at first. Her scene with Ryder (Radik Golovkov) illustrates this point quite well. There are some pretty graphic headshots in this, severed limbs, and just a bucket or two of blood along the way. Cat Run can best be described as the lovechild of Smokin' Aces and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

On the other hand though, Cat Run does have a lot of things working against it. The main one being that it feels like there is entirely too much going on in the film. As soon as the film starts, we're introduced to what feels like a good dozen characters. And while the film may be reminiscent of Smokin' Aces and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, it's not as good as either film. It's missing that standout performance, incredible ending, and/or dialogue witty enough to actually remember after you leave the theater. The editing style was also fairly annoying. The screen was split off into two and sometimes three different sections similar to what was done regularly on 24, but it seemed to serve no purpose whatsoever in Cat Run. When they all go to Helen's house to decide their next move, it's like the cameraman decided to wait outside and film the scene through the window while it was closed. It was probably an attempt to try something different, but it just didn't work and lasted a bit too long. Speaking of Helen, most characters in the film other than her are rather flat and boring. They're either not around long enough to make a lasting impression or just aren't fleshed out properly. D.L. Hughley is an ex-marine that is missing an arm and both of his legs and other than still being perfectly capable of doing things on his own; we don't get to spend enough time with him to care about what happens to his character. There are all these characters in Cat Run that have an interesting characteristic or two, but there's no depth to them and they wind up feeling one dimensional.

Cat Run is still a fun action comedy in a brainless, popcorn entertainment kind of sense, but it'll have the same effect that Battle: Los Angeles did; it's just going to make you want to go home and re-watch the films it reminds you of. Cat Run has a few jokes that'll make you snicker, but also contains a bit more gore than you're probably expecting. Not to mention it wastes little time getting to T&A. I mention that as a supporter of both blood and nudity in film. Its one dimensional characters and hyperactive storyline hurt the film more than anything else. Fans of action films will be in an explosive, breast-heavy, bullet-ridden heaven, while fans of well-developed story lines and well thought-out characters will probably walk away disappointed.

Sort of Entertaining

This movie was a classic B Movie that just fell short of propelling the stars to A status. The totally forgettable 3 main actors were out of character as this was neither a comedy or a thriller, so the way they portrayed it was just wrong. The leading assassin who stole the show with her portrayal of a cold blooded killer was the best part of the movie but it was over acted and it was only 2 steps away from being Austin Powers. It could have been so great but the poor acting ruined it, it could have been funny but the poor acting ruined it, it was badly scripted but the cinematography was excellent, it had so many good points but far too many bad points to recommend it.

Heavy Handed Direction and Lack of Humor in a Rip-off of Guy Ritchie Style

5/10
Author: Claudio Carvalho from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
10 January 2012

The Andorran call girl and single mother Catalina "Cat" Rona (Paz Vega) is hired to participate in an orgy in Montenegro with other escorts and powerful men and the American Senator William Krebb (Christopher McDonald). Something goes wrong with the politician and all the girls are murdered by the security of the host to avoid witnesses. However Cat escapes and brings a hard-drive with classified information with her. There is a manhunt for Cat and the cruel assassin Helen Bingham (Janet McTeer) is hired to retrieve the HD and kill Cat.

Meanwhile the Americans Julian Simms (Alphonso McAuley) and Anthony Hester (Scott Mechlowicz) decide to open a detective agency to raise money. When they see on the newspaper that Cat is being chased, they decide to seek her out expecting to receive a reward. However, they cross the path of Helen and they end protecting Cat from the killer. When Helen is betrayed by those who had hired her, she decides to help Anthony, Julian and Cat to retrieve the HD and their freedom.

"Cat Run" is an action-comedy with a heavy handed direction and lack of humor in a rip-off of Guy Ritchie style. Unfortunately the plot is silly and absurd and never works. In addition, Alphonso McAuley is not funny and Helen Bingham is a cliché of other assassins. My vote is five.

Title (Brazil): "Gata em Fuga" ("Cat in Flight")

Nice B-movie

With a very stellar cast. Paz Vega beautiful as ever, but also some acting heavyweights in there too. The action is filmed nicely and the fact this aimed for an adult audience (with the action and the erotic situations, though still tending to go for funny most of the time) really helped it. DL Hughley has a small part in this (most of him that is, which you'll get after watching the movie), but he is really something in it. Very funny indeed.

The story is nothing special and the coincidences might be a bit too much for some. But it has charm and charisma and if you have a heart for those small budget movies, you might find it entertaining enough to actually like ... like I did.

The movie has everything to keep you engrossed for its 100 min..

the right amount of comedy by the amateur detectives(the actors are authentic in their roles), the overall thrill, the good pace, good visuals..The editing has taken care that you don't have to suffer even a single dull moment And outstanding performance by Janet McTeer as one of the coolest and most efficient killers I have seen in such kind of movies..

The beauty and glamor of Paz Vega could have been handled more effectively..

After all, it is not very often we across thrillers/actions which have right amount of comedy and entertainment

Cat Run/Janet McTeer

9/10

Loved the concept of the female "seasoned"assassin played by Janet McTeer! She really made the movie stand out, so matter of fact about her various episodes of murder, she stole the movie! Janet was also terrific in the movie series White Queen, playing Jacquetta Woodville, the mother of the British Plantagenous queen, both of who had serious witch talents. I am very sure there wouldn't be a 2nd Cat Run if it hadn't been for Janet's performance! The story about the hostess/hooker running away with the hard drive has been done before, with quite notable actors, but was not as unique as this story, the characters being slightly out of the ordinary, like Cat's father the pig farmer. The two actors playing the private detectives make it more of a comedy of errors than a serious story!

Good action flick

7/10

A bunch of prostitutes go to a fancy party. Among them is Cat and a friend of hers. Among the guests is an American ambassador. The palatial house is owned by a mean guy named Carver. When the ambassador gets rough and kills one of the girls, all hell breaks lose. Carver decides to kill all the girls. Cat manages to escape.

Next morning while on the run she makes a phone call at a restaurant owned by Anthony. She steals his car and his friend's phone. Around this time the friend, named Julian, proposes they start a private detective business. Anthony eventually agrees. They get an "office" in a porn theater, hire a guy missing 3 limbs as an assistant, and take on the "case" of finding Cat.

Also looking for her is Carver. As it turns out Cat stole a hard drive of his with evidence of all sorts of wrongdoings. He hires a hitwoman Helen, a prim and proper English woman. And she's mean. She and the two morons follow the same trail--Cat's family in Spain, her pimp, and eventually the two find Cat just as Helen finds them all. They barely manage to escape. When Helen fails to do her job, Carver sends a hit-man after her. That causes Helen to join forces with the other 3, who now go after the ambassador and Carver. They crash another one of his parties and violence and the resolution ensues.

This movie is not at all what it seems like. Cat is a very secondary character, and no, she isn't not some action chick. Initially it's all about the two fools chasing after Cat. And they make terrible lead characters. Since they are so weak, the appearance of Helen livens things up considerably, except that she it detestable. Things improve when the Scottish hit-man appears but unfortunately he's there only for a short time. While the characters are lame, the story is alright and the action is pretty good. This movie delights in some of the extremes it shows. The settings in Serbia are pretty neat and interesting. Overall a fairly decent movie that's at times annoying but overall entertaining and action packed.

Bad Babes and Bungling Boys

7/10

Don't let the fine china for a spot of tea fool you, the middle-aged woman (Janet McTeer as Helen Bingham) with a penchant for literary aliases is an assassin. Our heroes, Anthony Hester and Julian Simms (played by Scott Mechlowicz and Alphonso McAuley, respectively), shrug off their lack of experience as private eyes and rely on their desire to succeed, Anthony's money and a hand from D.L. Hugely as Dexter. Their first case is personal.

Catalina Rona (Paz Vega) enchants as the cat on the run. Bullets fly in slow motion, blood spurts, bodies mount and beautiful bare breasts serve as exclamation points in this enjoyable bromance. Clever but not cloying graphics punctuate the we-should-vacation-here Serbian scenery. Magicians and a cute baby round out the cast in this perfect for munching microwave popcorn action comedy.

Glorified Euro Violence

2/10

*** This review may contain spoilers ***

Gotta say, there is something really trashy and loser-ish about the other reviewers loving a serial killer/torturer, because shes a middle aged woman in high heels? Is castration sexy to you? Is torture, sexy? Well American films try and make it cool and sexy, and apparently Euro films are pushing the same agenda.

And apparently every man in this film is a piece of trash, except for one half of the detectives.

Movie propaganda sure gets old, and explains why the film deserves and gets a trash rating.

The nudity is nice, but then again the women get murdered, for little reason, right afterwards. Death and torture aren't sexy.
