THE SHAGGY BEST FRIEND FOR LIFERS!
tcchelsey28 January 2024
Writer Cynthia Lindsey no doubt had the Disney movie, THE SHAGGY DOG in mind, which also starred Fred MacMurray. In that comedy, a boy is turned into a dog. In this case, a shaggy dog just wanders into the Douglas household and is attached to Steve, kind of like an adopted son!

No matter what he does, the shaggy dog --soon to be named Harry --sticks around and howls and howls... Steve subsequently puts an ad in the paper and in steps good neighbor Linda Watkins, an animal lover, who will try to find a home for Harry.

Steve also meets up with her daughter, Phyllis, played by Lee Meriwether. It turns out her mom has a unique collection of animals at her house, including a monkey! Take your pick.

This is Fred MacMurray's episode all the way, and he is so funny, stuck with one lovable dog. Very well written and acted, and with a lot of memories for all us kids back in the day who had pet dogs.

Look for comedian Gil Lamb as Mr. Franklin. Gil, who was known for all kind of stunts and pratfalls, appeared four times on the series. Watkins is very good, as usual, who played lots of comedy and dramatic roles on tv. She is perfect for this role.

SEASON 6 EPISODE 16 remastered color.
