If you felt that the television season that just ended pushed the envelope in the gore department, you aren't alone. We created this slideshow of twenty grisly deaths both as a fitting eulogy to our Best of TV week and as a way to do our part in documenting the crazy, grody stuff they can get away with showing on television nowadays so that scientists in the future will be able to understand how awesome/not awesome we were circa 2012-13. While all twenty screen-grabs could easily have come from Spartacus: War of the Damned, or a mix of comparatively serener bloodbaths True Blood and The Walking Dead, we felt that it was necessary to take a broader snapshot, one that allowed us to include Bones. Because seriously, Bones is ridiculous. On to the gore! »

For its 100th story, “Forget Me Not,” Burn Notice needed to tell the story of how Michael (Jeffrey Donovan) and Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) met, before it rides off into the sunset. But how did we come to that meeting when last we saw Michael, he was in the Dominican Republic trying to keep his deep cover from being blown? And what was the meaning of this line:
Michael: That’s the kiss you give when it’s over.
It meant that Michael blew his chance for eternal happiness with Fiona, even after saving her from Dexter Gambler, (Nick Tarabay, Spartacus: War of the Damned) the spy Randall Burke’s henchman sent stateside to confirm Michael’s mission. She wouldn’t have been caught to begin with, if her, Sam (Bruce Campbell) and Jesse (Coby Bell) weren’t trying to deal with the fallout of Michael’s deal with the CIA. »

Da Vinci’s Demons, Season 1: Episode 8 – “The Lovers”
Directed by Michael J. Bassett
Written by Brian Nelson, Corey Reed and David S. Goyer
For those of you not following along, that’s Zoroaster and Nico up there with very what-the-fuck expressions. Nico looks downright peeved. While the thoughts going through their heads might very well be “For fuck’s sake, Leonardo” (Leo has just left them to go try and save the day, essentially), the people who have been watching Da Vinci’s Demons probably have different thoughts but are likely to be wearing similar facial expressions.
Some viewers haven’t realized that Da Vinci’s Demons doesn’t have legitimate grand aspirations and have unfairly criticized it for being not very good when, in fact, it has no pretensions of being anything more than fun. And it has been fun, to take issue with some of those detractors. »

You almost won’t recognize the season premiere of the last season of Burn Notice, because Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) has grown a beard and seemingly found himself in a Guy Ritchie film, bare-knuckle boxing and being hit with an uppercut, laying him out parallel to the ground mid-air as he falls flat on the floor. Minutes in, the details of the CIA deal Michael made to keep his friends and family clean of his mess, are cross-stitched with the present day events. Michael’s new handler, Andrew Strong (Jack Coleman, Heroes) has some personal crusade against a terrorist, Randall Burke (Adrian Pasdar, Heroes) and needs the old Michael Westen to resurface, “The one that got the job done no matter what.”
This is a mission that’s sure to lead to more trouble for Michael but he’s at the end of his rope and the only types of »

Video: Sisa – Cocaine Of The Poor
Another Vice doc looking at homemade narcotics. This time it's about sisa, a potent form of crystal meth that is plaguing Athens, and killing its addicts. Users aren't taking sisa at house parties, they're injecting in the street, in broad daylight, for just €1 a hit. But while presenter Alex Miller's account of this new "austerity drug" is grim, it's also gripping, and a chilling reminder of the reality of Greece's economic crisis.

Interview James Hunt 30 Apr 2013 - 07:15
James chatted to the actor behind Spartacus' Caesar, Todd Lasance, about his role, training, and reinventing the historical figure...
Following the conclusion of Spartacus: War of the Damned, James had the opportunity to chat with Todd Lasance about his role as Caesar in the final series.
Let's start at the beginning then: How did you come to Spartacus, and how much were you aware of the show before you began work on it?
I came to the show pretty much normally – my agent sent through the test, I did my audition in Sydney, my tapes got sent to the production offices here in Los Angeles and within about three days they called to offer me the role, so that's how it came about. I'd only seen a few episodes of the show before that, so I went and purchased the series straight away, but »

Paul Risker looks at Starz's Spartacus and its place amongst the historical epics of the big and small screen...
By the time Steven S. DeKnight brought his vision of Spartacus: Blood and Sand to the small screen in January of 2010, the story of Spartacus’ revolt against the might of the Roman Empire and its legendary war machine had both been told and re-imagined.
The story was told none so famously as in Stanley Kubrick’s Spartacus (1960), and re-imagined forty years later in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator. To look beyond these two filmmakers, the story of Spartacus’ uprising and his part in the Third Servile War against the Republic has been an influential force on storytellers, spanning literature, film and television. In this latest incarnation DeKnight offers his take on this legendary, yet ambiguous figure. If the list of stories available to storytellers comprises a short list, then DeKnight was treading »
