15 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Modern Family” star Julie Bowen has joined New Line’s “Life of the Party” and will portray the enemy of Melissa McCarthy’s lead character.

New Line has given “Life of the Party” a prime summer release date of May 11, 2018. McCarthy will star while her husband Ben Falcone directs the film.

As with “The Boss,” McCarthy and Falcone wrote the script and are producing through their On the Way production company, along with Chris Henchy (“Daddy’s Home”). Details of the plot are being kept under wraps. The movie will be in the vein of the Rodney Dangerfield’s “Back to School.”

Production started last week in Atlanta. Cast members include Maya Rudolph, Gillian Jacobs, Debby Ryan, and “Animal Kingdom” star Molly Gordon.

Bowen has won two Emmys for her work on the ABC series “Modern Family.” Her movie credits include Rob Lowe’s drama “Knife Fight” and New Line’s 2011 comedy “Horrible Bosses. »

New Line Ensemble Comedy Life Of The Party Recruits Modern Family’s Julie Bowen

15 hours ago | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

New Line’s casting spree for ensemble comedy Life of the Party continues today, with The Hollywood Reporter bringing word that Modern Family star Julie Bowen has been cast as the nemesis of Melissa McCarthy’s central lead.

McCarthy, who is poised to once more collaborate with husband and writing partner Ben Falcone, will assume the role of a character named Deanna, with new recruit Matt Walsh playing her fictitious husband, Dan. Other than the fact New Line has likened its ensemble piece to Rodney Dangerfield’s Back to School, little is known about the core premise of Life of the Party. Then again, with production currently underway in Atlanta, expect some tangible details to begin emerging onto the interwebs very soon indeed – including how the dynamic between McCarthy’s lead and Bowen’s quasi-antagonist will shake out.

Rounding out that preliminary casting sheet are Maya Rudolph, Community star Gillian Jacobs, »

45 TV Shows You Need To Catch This Fall 1 of 46

Click to skip The Strain

When? August 28th at 10pm on FX

Why? Because three seasons in and The Strain still remains a juicy, pulpy, often delectable piece of summer programming.

You're The Worst

When? August 31st at 10pm on Fxx

Why? Anticipating where creator/writer Stephen Falk will pick up after last year’s epically poignant and romantic cliffhanger has made 2016 slow to a crawl, so here’s to hoping season 3 keeps You’re the Worst on the creative and bravely cutting upswing it's been on since the pilot.

Narcos

When? September 2nd on Netflix

Why? Narcos took everyone by storm last year and proved to be one of the streaming service's biggest hits. With season 2 set to place a larger focus on Pablo, we're giddy with anticipation to see where it can go from here.

Atlanta

When? September 6th at 10pm on FX

R-Rated Comedy Rock That Body Nets Demi Moore And Modern Family’s Ty Burrell

27 August 2016 10:00 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Falling into a similar bracket as DreamWorks’ all-star Office Christmas Party, Sony Pictures is quietly assembling its own entourage of talent in anticipation of Rock That Body.

It’s a new and R-rated comedy from writer-director Lucia Aniello, who penned the script of a wild bachelorette weekend that goes off the rails – as these cinematic bashes often tend to – alongside Paul W. Downs. Downs happens to be part of the cast, too, which is an ensemble that has now made room for both Demi Moore and Modern Family‘s Ty Burrell in supporting roles.

Deadline broke news of the two-fold casting coup during the week, confirming that Moore and Burrell will be rubbing shoulders with Scarlett Johansson, Ghostbusters star Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer and Zoe Kravitz. They’ll anchor Rock That Body as five close friends bound for Miami for a bachelorette weekend, but the body of a »

Xoxo Review

26 August 2016 7:07 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Nightlife has notoriously been tricky for Hollywood to capture on film. Lean too hard into the chaos of it all, and you wind up with a nonsensical mess that barely hangs together as a coherent narrative. Steer too clear of the debauchery that it entails, and the resulting film is a toothless, flaccid imitation. More than most, Xoxo – the latest “Netflix original film” to hit the streaming service – tows that delicate line, delivering a fun (albeit lightweight) ensemble comedy/drama.

Like an Edm version of Love Actually, the film follows a disparate group of strangers as they make their way to Xoxo, the nation’s biggest festival devoted entirely to electronic dance music. Though a disclaimer at film’s end declares that its production is not affiliated with the real-life Portland-held event, it’s clear that this atmosphere was likely the inspiration for filmmaker Christopher Louie’s directorial debut.

Let Adele Be Adele: How Her NBC Concert Left Such an Impact (and Could Snag an Emmy)

26 August 2016 3:17 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Even non-music fans can appreciate the talent and personality on display at most concerts. That’s especially true with an artist like Adele, whose live performances are where she truly shines brightest. It’s an experience that audiences beyond just a stadium full of ticket holders ought to be able to enjoy.

Re-creating that live concert experience was the challenge facing the producers and director of “Adele: Live In New York City.” The one-off special, which was filmed at Radio City Music Hall on Nov. 17 and broadcast by NBC on Dec. 14, ultimately received four Emmy nominations. Give credit to director Beth McCarthy-Miller, who treated “Adele: Live” like the concert event it was and not just another TV special.

Emmys 2016: ‘Steven Universe’ and ‘Bob’s Burgers’ Show Off Animation’s Softer Side

24 August 2016 12:46 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

From opening theme to closing credits, “The Answer” is eleven minutes—but as with most episodes of “Steven Universe,” its emotional reach seems infinite. Even the title card is immaculate, clothes on the line and leaves in the trees rustling under a midnight moon. In the Emmy-nominated Short Form Animated Series, the most ravishing approach to the art form currently on television, each frame, ant-like, carries many times its own weight, and together the images foster a kind of communal spirit. Down to the frogs and fireflies in an untouched forest, or the fusion of two characters into one, in “The Answer” “Steven Universe” reaffirms its faith in the additive power of cooperation, a children’s series with potent insights for adults.
