‘Big Brother’ Rises, Tops Thursday; Ok Start for ‘Welcome to Sweden’

11 July 2014 9:18 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

CBS reality veteran “Big Brother” bounced back from its low of last week to rule Thursday night’s ratings race, while other shows joined it in improving upon their scores from the pre-holiday night. It was an Ok start, meanwhile, for NBC comedy “Welcome to Sweden,” starring Amy Poehler’s brother Greg.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, CBS followed repeats of comedies “The Big Bang Theory” (1.7 rating/7 share in adults 18-49, 7.9 million viewers overall) and “The Millers” (1.3/5 in 18-49, 5.8 million viewers overall) with “Big Brother” (2.0/7 in 18-49, 6.2 million viewers overall), which grew 25% (0.4) from last week to stand as the night’s top show in young adults. The rise was not unexpected given that last Thursday was the eve of Independence Day; also, the conclusion of Wednesday’s episode portended some explosive happenings in the house that were recapped early on in Thursday’s hour. Fast National ratings for Thursday, July 10, 2014. The season's second "Big Brother" eviction delivered Thursday's best key demo numbers and combined with a "Big Bang Theory" repeat to help CBS lead primetime in most measures. Also on Thursday, NBC's "Welcome to Sweden" premiered got off to a decent start, with the launch of "Working the Engels" dipping a bit. Both comedies came in below the May premiere for "Undateable," but "Sweden" was above recent "Undateable" numbers and "Working the Engels" was comparable. Among other notables, ABC's "NY Med" and "Rookie Blue" were consistent and helped the network finish second overall, while "Hell's Kitchen" helped Fox take second in the key demographic. On to the numbers... Among adults 18-49, CBS averaged a 1.4 rating for Thursday night, tops in the key demographic. NBC Wins Week in Demos Behind ‘America’s Got Talent,’ ‘Night Shift’ and Fireworks

10 July 2014 5:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The return of “Under the Dome” brought CBS closer, but NBC remained ahead in the summer demo derby last week, riding “America’s Got Talent” and, as it does every year, ruling primetime on Independence Day.

“Dome” kicked off its second season well below its huge numbers of last summer, but it still towered over all other original scripted programs for the week.

In cable, VH1′s “Hit the Floor” and TNT’s rookie “The Last Ship” were the top scripted originals in young adults, while the unscripted standouts included a pair of femme-friendly shows — Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Kandi’s Wedding” and E!’s “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” — that went head to head on Sunday.

Overall, according to Nielsen estimates for June 30-July 6, NBC led in adults 18-49 with a 1.1 rating/4 share for its fifth demo triumph in seven weeks this summer — losing out »

TV Ratings: 'Big Brother' leads pre-holiday Thursday, 'Undateable' finale drops

4 July 2014 9:43 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Fast National ratings for Thursday, July 3, 2014. Numbers were mostly down on a pre-holiday Thursday night, with "Big Brother" ranking as the night's top show among young viewers and ranking behind only a "Big Bang Theory" repeat overall. It's no surprise, then, that CBS won the night in both measures. There were a number of Thursday notables and some actually did reasonably well. "Gang Related" was one of the night's only shows to even be flat among young viewers and gained slightly overall, even more impressive since "Hell's Kitchen" was down in all measures. "Rookie Blue" was up from last week in total viewers, but down a hair in the key demo. ABC's "NY Med" slipped a bit in its second week, as did NBC's "Undateable" in its finale.  Let's get to the numbers... Among adults 18-49, CBS averaged a 1.2 rating for Thursday night, topping the 1.1 rating for Fox in the key demographic. »
