Did You Know?
Tom (Martin Sheen
) places bits of his son's ashes at various places on El Camino to signify that his son is making the journey with him. Though touching, this goes against Catholic teaching - cremation is allowed, but all of a person's ashes are to be kept together, in one place. Scattering or dividing the ashes is officially not allowed. See more
When Tom starts his walk you see him come through the archway near St Jean-Pied-de-Port's Church. He turns left and then the Captain Henri corrects him and tells him the Camino starts over a small bridge. Neither Tom or Henri's route are actually on the Camino which should run straight over the River Nive directly from the archway and up the Rue D'Espagne out of town. See more
