Marvelous DA7E: A Casualty of Civil War (II)

13 July 2016 3:50 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

I was finally engaged with Marvel’s crossover event Civil War II and they lured me in just as they planned to, by doing some big twist that defines the event. Fans of the first Marvel Comics Civil War know that these  event series as have a big moment that divides our comic book universe heroes even further. In the first Civil War, Reed Richards created a clone of Thor (called Ragnarok, which is what made your Googling difficult when Thor: Ragnarok was announced) that blasted a hole through a character called Goliath’s chest, killing him.

Back at the Marvel retreat where the brain trust planned which character would die during Civil War II, the NY Daily News had a reporter on site to document the process. From what that article told us, they knew they wanted a hero to die by the hands of another hero. When this is teased, »

Box Office: Dory Keeps Swimming as Other Pets Rise.

10 July 2016 10:00 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

This weekend Dory swam easily past Captain America to become the biggest grossing Us hero of the year. (Captain America still leads internationally by a lot, which is funny if you think about it). That's quite impressive for a forgetful blue tang who could have gone 'straight to video' -- Wait, are we still saying that? If not, what's the new phrase. I'm scared of what this means for the future with all those cheapie animated sequels but it is what happened. The current top ten of 2016 includes only two originals (Zootopia & Central Intelligence) but otherwise it's all brand extensions / revisions. It didn't use to be this way but it's been a slow erosion. Consider by comparison: 2006's top ten had 5 originals; 1996 had 6; 1986 had 7. Since we get less original hits every year how soon until we have none?

It should be noted that an original won the weekend but since »

'Arrow' Season 5 Teaser: Have We Seen the Last of Olicity?

6 July 2016 6:00 AM, PDT | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

As previously reported, Stephen Amell broke his hiatus silence about everyone's favorite Arrow couple, Olicity. Though not exactly avoiding the question, Oliver and Felicity's biggest fan, Oliver's own actor, has been quiet on the status of the currently separated couple. At Heroes and Villains Fan Fest, though, Amell spoke about what the upcoming season 5 of Arrow might have in store for the couple and it's not something many fans might want to hear. Amell implied that season 5 might not see Oliver and Felicity rekindle their romantic fire and merely stay good friends. Though the idea sounds shocking to the diehard Felicity and Oliver fans, perhaps it could be for the best on Arrow

'Arrow' Season 5 Spoilers: Cast Talks 'Supergirl' Crossovers, New Villain and Olicity Break-Up

5 July 2016 5:02 AM, PDT | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

Arrow star Stephen Amell had a little bit to say about Arrow season 5 following the end of season 4 while promoting his movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of Shadows. He is the only member of cast or crew who really spoke up about the upcoming season of the superhero show.

Now the rest of the cast is talking more and more as Arrow season 5 gets closer to airing. At the Heroes and Villains Fan Fest panel over Independence Day weekend, Amell and the rest of the Arrow cast opened up about what fans can expect. They talked about everything from Supergirl, to new guest stars and, of course, Olicity drama.

‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’ Turns 25: 25 Things You Never Knew About The Film

5 July 2016 1:35 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Terminator 2 Turns 25

It’s been twenty-five years since Terminator 2: Judgement Day descended on Us audiences. James Cameron pulled an Aliens and again managed to create a sequel that surpassed the original by switching the plot around on its head.

In The Terminator Sarah Connor, played by Linda Hamilton, was hunted down by a killer cyborg, played of course by Arnold Schwarzengger. The second time around the villain became the hero and Arnie was in charge of Sarah’s young son John Connor and had to prevent him being murdered by Robert Patrick‘s liquid-metal T-1000.

It’s a movie whose legacy continues, and we don’t mean those terrible follow-ups. The film was a landmark in special effects, story-telling, summer blockbusters and sequels. To celebrate a quarter of a century with time-travelling terminators turned saviour, here’s a list of facts that you might not know:

Tmnt season 3: 5 great episodes (with cake)

Matt Edwards Jul 28, 2016

Here are 5 great episodes of Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles season 3, with cake. What more explanation do you need?

I’ve already written two articles about watching the Nickelodeon TV series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and eating cake. You can find them here and here.

The idea is to eat a ridiculous amount of cake and talk about what makes my favourite TV show so brilliant. What links Ninja Turtles and cake? Nothing. Why does everything always have to make sense? Even looking for pictures that I can use in these articles highlights that no one ever eats cake on the show. What I do is buy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cake and just get on with it, and you can either go with me or call me out on doing something so weird. But then what are we gonna do with all this cake?

Aside from getting the chance to see Harley Quinn for the first time on the big screen, one of the many cool things about Suicide Squad is that it will also do the same for characters such as Katana. Heroes and villains who were previously known only to more diehard fans now have the chance to reach a broader audience and showcase the true depth of the DC Universe.

As opposed to characters such as El Diablo or Enchantress, Katana has at least had the benefit of permeating public consciousness through various forms of media in recent years. Not only was she a recurring character on the hit CW series Arrow, but she was also a series regular on the CGI animated show Beware The Batman, which was unfortunately cancelled after only one season. Flickering Myth’s Formative Movie Experiences

22 May 2016 4:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Sean Wilson asks his fellow Flickering Myth writers about the film experiences that shaped their childhoods…

I was more than a little startled when hit with the recent revelation that nineties family classic Free Willy this year passed its 22nd birthday. It’s not a lengthy period in the grand scheme of things but for me it encapsulates an entire aeon of time having passed, as it was one of the first movies I vividly remember watching at the cinema. I couldn’t have been older than 7, the theatre was the Paignton Picture House (one of the world’s oldest cinemas, currently undergoing a new lease of life following its tragic closure in 1999) and the movie was the sort of rollicking emotional rollercoaster that sears itself into young minds.

This seemingly unassuming piece of news nevertheless hit me like the proverbial wave, making me wistful and reflective on the nature of formative cinema experiences, »

If your weekends are anything like mine, most times they are filled with movie and drama marathons. While I do enjoy the occasional interaction with other human units, I mostly prefer to shed the stress of the previous work week by relaxing at home.

However, when watching movies is your go-to activity, selections can quickly become depleted. Luckily for me, I have become quite good at finding hidden gems throughout various technology sources. They usually feel like a sweet reward during droughts of fresh material. One source that has been quite rich with great finds is Google Play. I found the following two-day movie rentals on Google Play for just a few bucks.

Review: Justice League vs Teen Titans

12 April 2016 2:31 PM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Now that the DC Animated Universe has solidified its characters and reality, it makes sense to go exploring. After all, if there’s a Robin, surely there must be other teen heroes. We meet some of them in the newly released Justice League vs Teen Titans.

Robin (Stewart Allen) is the focal point as his go-it-alone and I-know-better-than-everyone-else attitude actually gets him into trouble on a case that foreshadows the arrival of the demon Trigon (Jon Bernthal). A frustrated Batman (Jason O’Mara) arranges for Damian to spend time with Starfire (Kari Wahlgren) and the Teen Titans. Interestingly, this interpretation of the Tamaranean princess positions her a caring, mentor figure as opposed to the current fish-out-of-water incarnation or the innocent warrior she was originally seen as. She is training the next generation composed of the Jamie Reyes Blue Beetle (Jake T. Austin), Beast Boy (Brandon Soo Hoo), and Raven (Taissa Farmiga).
