Based on the novel "Flash Forward" by Robert J. Sawyer, published in 1999 by 'Tor Books,' and which differs from the series plot, where the world's given a glimpse at their lives 21-years into the future.
The flashforwards show the characters visions of what may or may not happen on April 29th 2010. April 29th is the birthday of Robert J. Sawyer, the author whose novel the show is based on.
Right after the name 'FlashForward' is shown at the beginning of each episode, you get a glimpse of an image you will see later in that episode.
The characters "Mark Benford" and "Bryce Varley" were named after science fiction writers Gregory Benford and John Varley, both well-known for stories dealing with time paradoxes.
The character of D. Gibbons is named after Dave Gibbons, the illustrator of the graphic novel 'Watchmen'.
In the pilot. A poster with Oceanic airlines is visible. Oceanic arilines is the airline company featured in Lost.

Sonya Walger and Dominic Monaghan previously appeared together in Lost (2004), a television series that had flash-forwards as plot elements too.

Jack Davenport and Sonya Walger both starred in the television show Coupling (2000). Davenport in the UK version and Walger in the short lived US version.

The trivia item below may give away important plot points.

The character of Demetri Noh was originally supposed to die, as indicated by the fact he did not have a flashforward. According to Gabrielle Union, a plot from a second season would have seen her character, lawyer Zoey Andata, the fiance of Noh, representing defendants against the FBI, whom she blamed for his death, but the storyline was changed.
