The screenplay was originally intended as a direct sequel to Deadlands: The Rising and the first draft was written in 2006.
As of May 2010, the screenplay has been through 7th drafts. The most recent draft of the screenplay clocks in at a whopping 144 pages. Previous Deadlands zombie film screenplays have never exceeded 70 pages of script.
The production is actually raising money through Kickstarter.Com an online community dedicated to independent artists seeking donations to complete their projects. The film /project is seeking $1,000,000, which just happens to be the Most Expensive Project ever listed on the site.
