Why Rob's wrestling team has no chance to win
FlushingCaps20 December 2021
Robbie and his high school wrestling team are threatened with being unable to wrestle unless they can improve their math grades. Robbie comes up with a scheme to invite all of them over to study, figuring that when his dad comes home, he'll see how poor they are and volunteer to help them. But just after the gang arrives, one of them complains about being really hot and shortly thereafter, a doctor makes a house call (Ah, the good ol' days) and he places the entire household in quarantine.

The one most upset is Bub, who had a date to go after a special trout in some fishing contest. He mopes about the house, almost ignoring the high school lads, despite the roughhousing and other mischief they cause. Steve winds up tutoring them through the window, calling out to Robbie at the window his instructions, and letting his son relay them to the guys inside.

My chief criticism is that once again the writers show they have no concept of how a high school wrestling team is formed. They have 10 or more weight divisions (depending on the year and which state they are in) and thus need all sorts of different-sized boys, starting under 100 pounds. The boys shown were all rather large, with Robbie about the only one who wouldn't be in one of the two heaviest weight divisions. If my estimates are correct, this team would have to vacate at least 7 of the scheduled matches in any competition, and no more than three would be able to wrestle, leading to a clear-cut team defeat even if everyone who did wrestle for their team pinned their opponent. The casting director should have been instructed to find teens of all different sizes for this episode.

This wasn't a bad script or a particularly funny one. I give it a 5.
