An adaptation of the massively successful Gran Turismo game franchise has taken a step closer to becoming a reality with the news that two writers have signed on to pen the script, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jon and Erich Hoeber have been brought on by Sony to help bring the game to the big screen. Plot details are underwraps at present, but the film is set to “play with the conceit of a gamer-turned-racer.”

The writing duo have had plenty of experience in the action genre, with work on both Red films as well as Battleship and the upcoming The Last Witch Hunter, which stars Vin Diesel, Rose Leslie, Elijah Wood and Michael Caine.

Joseph Kosinski, the director who brought Tron: Legacy and Oblivion to the screen, is helming the film.

Since the game first debuted in 1997 on Playstation, Gran Turismo has sold over 70 million copies worldwide, making it »

Red Writers To Pen Sony’s Big Screen Adaptation Of Gran Turismo

2 October 2015 11:30 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The next few years is going to be very interesting for video game adaptations. Hitman: Agent 47 didn’t go down too well earlier this year, so all eyes will be on Assassin’s Creed in 2016 to see if it can break the curse and help make video game movies just as popular as comic book ones.

Need for Speed was brought to the big screen with mixed results not too long ago, and now Sony are looking to turn Gran Turismo into a racing franchise which may just end up giving Fast and Furious a run for its money.

Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but it has been revealed today that Red writers Jon and Erich Hoeber are set to pen the screenplay. Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion, Tron: Legacy) is still attached to direct and is expected to work with the bothers on the movie. Plot »

Liam Neeson Will Be 'The Commuter' --- How Will He Survive?

22 September 2015 3:00 PM, PDT | | See recent news »

Liam Neeson is one busy fella! His latest suspense-thriller, The Commuter, will find him starring as a normal businessman who gets caught up in a criminal conspiracy that affects him and his fellow commuters, according to Deadline. The role will be a departure for him, in that he won't be able to draw upon "a particular set of skills," as he did in the Taken movies that made him a worldwide action star. Since the first installment in 2008, Neeson has displayed his action chops in Clash of the Titans, The A-Team, Unknown, The Grey, Wrath of the Titans, Battleship, Non-Stop, and Run All Night, and he's also set to star in upcoming action pictures such as The Returner and A Willing Patriot. Now, not all those movies have been straightforward action movies. Joe...

Black Swan film-maker to steer motorbike stunt rider project based on a script by The Fighter’s Scott Silver, after departure of Peter Berg

Darren Aronofsky is to take on Hollywood’s long-gestating biopic of the legendary stunt rider Evel Knievel, reports the Tracking Board.

Magic Mike star Channing Tatum remains on board to star as the daredevil motorcycle rider who once jumped 14 buses at Ohio’s Kings Island theme park and earned a Guinness world record for surviving 433 broken bones during his 20-year jumping career. But Peter Berg, the Hancock and Battleship director, has walked away for unspecified reasons and the project, which was first announced in 2012, now has a fresh script from Scott Silver, who wrote The Fighter and 8 Mile.

Channing Tatum set for Evil Knievel movie

14 September 2015 10:19 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Darren Aronofsky is taking over from Peter Berg, and directing Channing Tatum as Evil Knievel.

The famous motorcycle stuntman Evil Knievel is still heading to the movies, as has been rumoured for some time, but there's been a sizeable change behind the scenes.

The movie, which is being set up at Sony, once had director Peter Berg (Battleship, Friday Night Lights) attached to direct. But after signing on the dotted line around six months ago, Berg has now moved on from the film. Reasons for that have not been disclosed, but it's not like Berg is shy of projects right now.

In his place? That'd be Black Swan and Pi helmer Darren Aronofsky, who The Tracking Board has revealed is on board for the new movie. Scott Silver has penned the latest draft of the screenplay.

As for casting, Channing Tatum is set to take on the lead role, and »

Ronda Rousey Will Star in 'Road House' Remake

9 September 2015 11:22 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Okay, so it's not Captain Marvel. But it's still pretty darn cool. Champion Ufc fighter Ronda Rousey is taking over the Patrick Swayze role in the upcoming remake of Road House. The original cult classic exploded onto the scene in 1989, and will now get a proper reboot. MGM is currently meeting with screenwriters, with production planned for 2016.

The original Road House is a non-stop action fest that featured Patrick Swayze as a bouncer. He is hired to clean up and protect one of the rowdiest, loudest bars in all of redneck Missouri. Swayze plays Dalton as a serious bad-ass with a degree in philosophy, which comes in handy when dealing with the drunk and confrontational denizens of The Double Deuce. Though, his quite demeanor and calm attitude are put to the test when a corrupt businessman moves into take over the nearby town, with the bar being his prized trophy. »

Box Office Sabermetrics: The Taylor Kitsch Syndrome Claims a New Victim

17 August 2015 8:27 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Box Office Sabermetrics is a weekly column that will attempt to apply the statistical analysis Sabermetrics, used in Baseball, to the box office results each weekend.

There are a few things of note going on in the top 10 this past weekend, first and foremost that Straight Outta Compton just made a ton of money. Like, nearly-twice-its-budget-just-domestically ton of money. It’s set the new domestic box office record for an R-Rated opening in August. That’s great for many reasons: a bright future for its young stars, F. Gary Gray is relevant again, and hopefully this will encourage more high-profile films about the rap and hip-hop community.

But looking down the list, something is amiss with the low receipts for The Man from U.N.C.L.E., which means that’s two straight franchise starters that have bombed for star Armie Hammer. A very disconcerting question arises: Is Armie Hammer suffering from the Taylor Kitsch syndrome? »

Liam Neeson Is Circling The Role Of General MacArthur In Operation Chromite

12 August 2015 1:58 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Star of the Taken franchise, Liam Neeson, could be about to sign on to portray another man with a very particular skill-set – this time as U.S. Army General Douglas MacArthur, in the upcoming movie, Operation Chromite. Set in 1950 during the Korean War, the film will centre on a group of Korean soldiers participating in MacArthur’s planned military operation, which represented a significant turning point in the conflict.

The Korean War was fought from 1950-1953, though the consequences of the clash are still playing out today. The United Nations stepped in with military force when North Korea invaded South Korea in 1950, and General MacArthur was tasked with leading the United Nations Command in the country, in addition to the job he was already doing – overseeing the occupation of Japan. The five-star General planned the amphibious attack – which would become known as the Battle Of Incheon, but was codenamed Operation »

Busan — Liam Neeson is play the role of U.S. Army General Douglas MacArthur in “Operation Chromite” (a.k.a. “Incheon Landing Operation”), a Korean-made blockbuster set during the Korean War of the early 1950s.

The film is to be produced by South Korea’s Taewon Entertainment. It will be directed by Lee Jae-han, and scripted by Lee Man-hee, who both have war film experience with hit “71: Into the Fire”.

Although Chinese movies are increasingly incorporating Hollywood talent, it is rare in Korea. Neeson has had a career revival following box office success with “The Grey,” “Taken,” “Battleship” and “The Lego Movie.”

“Operation Chromite” focuses on the heroic Korean troopers who carried out the covert “X-ray” operation that preceded the Incheon landing operation in the Yellow Sea. The landing shifted the momentum of the Korean War.

7 August 2015 7:31 PM, PDT | | See recent Cinema Blend news »

There are no less than three movies in development about the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing that killed three people and injured more than 260 others. When movies with similar stories come out close to each other, the first one to the theater usually wins the box office battle, and now the Mark Wahlberg-produced Patriots. Day has taken a big step forward, hiring a director well-suited to the material. Variety reports that CBS Films has hired Battleship director Peter Berg to helm their Boston Marathon Bombing picture. Patriots. Day is said to focus more on the manhunt for the bombers and is described as a thriller, something Berg is well suited to. Clear eyes, full heart? Not so much.

While Caitlyn Jenner’s acceptance of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at Wednesday night’s ESPYs drew cheers from the crowd, “Friday Night Lights” creator Peter Berg was evidently jeering.

The “Lone Survivor” director shared a meme on Instagram, circulated by the Facebook account Main Stream Media Sponsor Boycotts, slamming Jenner’s Arthur Ashe Courage Award win. The image contains side-by-side photos of Jenner and U.S. Army veteran Gregory D. Gadson.

“One man traded 2 legs for the freedom of the other to trade 2 balls for 2 boobs. Guess which man made the cover of Vanity Fair, was praised for his courage by President Obama and is to be honored with the ‘Arthur Ashe Courage Award’ by Espn?” the text read. “Yup,” Berg captioned his post, simply.

'Mr. Robot' Star Rami Malek on Making an 'Indie Film' on USA Network and Its 'Iconic' Potential

USA Network isn't the USA Network you know. Not anymore. Not after "Mr. Robot" premiered at the SXSW Film Festival, taking home an audience award before screening at the Tribeca Film Festival and SeriesFest and getting a sneak peak online for anyone with an internet connection. The thriller from creator Sam Esmail bucks just about every association viewers have made with the NBC Universal cable network, ditching the blue skies and episodic storytelling for black hoodies cloaked by night and a gripping, serialized character study.  At its center is Rami Malek, a name you may not know yet but a face you're sure to recognize — and remember liking. Malek, despite his young age of 34, has appeared in everything from critically-acclaimed miniseries ("The Pacific") to breakout indie darlings ("Short Term 12") to big-time studio blockbusters ("Battleship"). Now, he's taking his talents to USA, a decision he had to deliberate on before signing. »

Punching the Numbers: Where Liam Neeson Lies in the History of “Hollywood’s Most Bankable Action Star” Runs

Liam Neeson is Hollywood’s most bankable action star. That’s a statement of fact, but how do we know it is fact? How much more bankable is he than others? First off, we take a look at the box office returns for his action films and match them against the budgets and see what sort of averages and trends pop up.

1st Disclosure: I am not a sabermetrics genius, I’m just a guy that likes to write about action movies. If somebody out there who is a sabermetrics genius saw this and said “There’s a better way to do this.”, it would only bring me joy to see my amateur work improved upon.

2nd Disclosure: I won’t be including results of The Grey and A Walk Among the Tombstones in this pool of data, while both were marketed as action vehicles and have moments of action in them, »
