Simon Brew Jun 9, 2017

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 is rumoured to be leading Disney's long-awaited support of Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray...

It’s been a quiet year for the latest optical disc format and supposed successor to Blu-ray, Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray. Whilst titles have continued to trickle through, and finally some price promotions are kicking in, the problem is that there’s little sense of consumer enthusiasm, and not much being done to change that.

Maybe things will start to alter with this news, though.

The Digital Bits is reporting that Disney is finally set to take the plunge and support Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray, starting later this year. As of yet, none of its titles are on the format, although a release of »

‘The Leftovers’: The 7 Filmmakers That Made It One of Television’s Best Directed Series

31 May 2017 8:43 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The end is finally upon us. “The Leftovers” airs its final episode this Sunday on HBO, and with it comes the close of one of television’s all-time great drama series. Over the course of its three-season run, “The Leftovers” has earned acclaim for Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta, as well as the ensemble cast, but it would be a shame to say goodbye to this series without spotlighting the men and women behind the camera.

The Leftovers” and its point-of-view storytelling always allowed different directors to leave their mark on the series. Through memorable sequences and shots, these seven directors made “The Leftovers” an emotionally visceral and downright spiritual experience. It’s safe to say there won’t be another series like it for some time, but television is in good hands as long as these filmmakers are guiding it.

Rihanna, Nyong'o and DuVeray Team for Netflix Movie Based on a Meme

22 May 2017 6:52 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Last month, a 2014 photo of Rihanna and Lupita Nyong'o, who were both sitting in the front row of a Miu Miu fashion show, went viral, with several social media users crafting a movie idea around this image alone. It all started with one Twitter user dubbed "@1800Sadgal" calling for a heist movie where Rihanna would play the "tough-as-nails leader/master thief", with Lupita Nyong'o portraying "the genius computer hacker." During the Cannes Film Festival, Netflix actually picked up this project, which will star both actresses with Ava DuVernay set to direct from a script by Insecure creator Issa Rae.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Netflix closed a deal for the concept of this Meme Movie, which still doesn't have a title, during a "dramatic negotiation session." There were several other buyers bidding for the project, but Netflix won with an "aggressive bid" that secured the rights. Another report from Vanity Fair »

Nine Actors Who Reinvented Themselves and Revitalized Their Careers

21 April 2017 10:45 PM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Some actors manage to catch lightning in a bottle twice. It’s impressive enough to find your niche in Hollywood’s A-list even once. Occasionally, an actor will reinvent him/herself and begin a new phase of their careers that will be even more successful than it was before. Here are nine actors who had a cinematic rebirth.

Liam Neeson-  Neeson has had a long career, and the early part of it was in dramatic roles. An intense dramatic actor, he apeared in films like The Dead Pool, Dark Man, Schindler’s List, Rob Roy and Les Miserables. His career rebirth came after playing Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars-Episode one: The Phantom Menace. After that, he got more offers for actions parts and recreated himself as an action hero in films like Gangs of NY, Batman Begins, Taken, Clash of the Titans, the A-Team, Unknown, the Grey, Taken 2, »

20 March 2017 6:00 AM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Bates Motel exec producer Carlton Cuse experienced his Rihanna-as-Marion-Crane epiphany while flipping through the pages of a magazine.

“I was reading a profile of her in Vanity Fair and all of a sudden she says that Bates Motel is her favorite television show, and I was like, ‘What?'” Cuse recalls to TVLine ahead of the singer’s debut as the ill-fated Psycho icon (10/9c, tonight on A&E). “We had been talking about introducing Marion Crane and the challenge was doing it in a way that wouldn’t be a pale imitation of Janet Leigh from the original. »

16 March 2017 1:52 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The indie movie world got some amazing news earlier this week when Amazon acquired U.S. rights to Leos Carax’s “Annette.” The film, which marks the first English-language project from the “Holy Motors” director, begins production this spring and has the very enticing duo of Adam Driver and Rihanna in the leading roles. Or at least it did.

Pitchfork is now reporting that Rihanna’s representatives have confirmed that the pop star is not starring “Annette.” Rihanna had been reportedly attached to the film for several months, as was Rooney Mara. The Amazon acquisition release made note that Mara had left the film, but did mention Rihanna was still on board. According to the singer’s reps, this is no longer the case. Patriots Day review: Dir. Peter Berg (2017)

23 February 2017 12:00 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Our Patriots Day review. The film hits UK cinemas on February 23rd.

Patriots Day review by Paul Heath, February 2017.

Mark Wahlberg re-teams with Peter Berg for their third film together, and indeed their second to be released in the last six months. It is also their third film to be focussed on real-life events. After tackling the Taliban and indeed survival in the 2013 action drama Lone Survivor, and then the Deepwater Horizon disaster back in September, the duo focus their attention on the events leading up to and following the Boston marathon bombings from three years ago.

Patriots Day homes in on Mark Wahlberg’s city cop Tommy Saunders, a detective assigned to the finish line of the marathon event on that fateful April day in the spring of 2013. Directly impacted by the initial bombing, Saunders was also amongst the team who pursued the suspects following the attack, but of »

Hell or High Water filmmaker David Mackenzie and director-producer Pete Berg are the frontrunners to helm Universal’s remake of Scarface.

Antoine Fuqua was to have sat behind the camera but departed last week to focus on Sony’s sequel to 2014’s The Equalizer, which he also directed.

Mackenzie and Berg are meeting with Universal execs, setting up an interesting competition of sorts. Berg has a relationship with the studio, having directed its releases Battleship and Lone Survivor. And, interestingly, he acted as Mackenzie’s boss when in 2015 Berg hired him to direct Commancheria, the movie that eventually became Hell or High »

Ocean’S 8: First Image Released, Check Out The Star Power In Action!

Ocean's 8 will be a reboot of George Clooney's Ocean's 11 franchise, and while everyone involved has kept a tight lip about the plot we do know that it will feature an all female cast and pictured above are the eight women rumored to be the actual "Ocean's 8". Now, I know where almost everyone's mind is heading right now -- way back to 2016 when an all female cast massacred Ghostbusters, tore the franchise to shreds, and stomped in the face of "Bill effing Murray" who was actually kind enough to lend his celebrity status to the movie. I do not think this will be the case in Ocean's 8 and the main reason is the caliber of most of the actresses involved. Let's take a look at the eight in the picture and a few more ladies involved as well.
