6 Things With Da7e [Goodbye 2010]

31 December 2010 3:39 PM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Merry Happy End 2010, everyone. There's something about the end of the year, probably having much to do with the annual trek back to the suburb where I grew up, that brings everything into a sharp, marzipan-tinged relief. Choices I made throughout the year were good or bad, people I love and people I'm thankful for are the most important, and my year in media condenses drastically as I have free time to take in the many end-of-the-year lists. I'm not one for end-of-the-year lists. I like lists, and as someone who has worked on the internet for almost a full decade, I know the value of content that can be skimmed first and read second. However, the end of the year is such an arbitrary time to make these lists. It's commercialism that's the motivator, like it always is. Everyone gets time off at the end of the year, time »

MTV Splash Page's Top 10 Interviews Of 2010

28 December 2010 1:28 PM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

As we inch ever closer to the year's end, we've ranked our favorite comics of the year, our favorite movies and television series, and even our favorite news stories of 2010. And while that's all well and good, it's worth noting that the projects we included on those lists weren't always our readers' favorite subjects this year.

That's why we put together a list each year that ranks the most popular stories published on the site over the last 12 months. After all, these were the stories that you were most interested in this year, and the subjects that brought readers to the site most often — according to our traffic data, at least.

In years past, we simply offered a list of the Top 10 Stories Of The Year, but this time around we decided to be a bit more comprehensive and post three Top 10 lists, beginning with the year's most popular interviews, »

15 Show Runners Worth Following on Twitter

24 December 2010 9:16 AM, PST | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

No one really understands show runners except other show runners, and one of the few windows into their world is Twitter. Their short bursts of electric thought are among the only ways people outside their job get to see their creative processes, frustrations, and thoughts on each other's shows. It's no surprise many of the best show runners can't spare the time for Twitter. But for those that do, it's a way to vent and interact with fans -- and each other.  Take this recent exchange between "Community" creator Dan Harmon and »

Cast of Community Re-Imagined as The Avengers

23 December 2010 2:37 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Although it is Thursday, there will be no new episode of Community on tonight. If you missed last week’s Christmas special, which featured America’s favorite student slackers in claymation, check out our review here. And now, thanks to cartoonist Chris Schweizer, you can also see them as the Avengers. What?! Donald Glover isn’t Spider-Man? Don’t get your Spidey-tights in a bunch. The artist chose not to draw him as your favorite web crawler because he already did that once, so save your “Spider-Man is/isn’t an Avenger” argument. Hit the jump for the artist’s blog and wallpaper-ready images. Here’s the original post [via Vulture] with a set of scaled wallpaper images. For those of you not up on your Community or Avengers lore, let me break it down for you: Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) is Iron Man, Britta (Gillian Jacobs) is Thor, Abed (Danny Pudi) is Vision, »

'Perfect Couples': Not perfect, but not bad either

20 December 2010 10:26 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

There are three young-couples-hanging-out comedies coming to a broadcast network near you sometime in 2011, and on the surface it's hard to tell them apart. We've been confusing bits and pieces of "Perfect Couples," "Happy Endings" and "Friends With Benefits" in the Zap2it offices pretty much since they were announced in May.

"Perfect Couples," which has its regular premiere on NBC on Jan. 20, got to be first out of the gate with a "special preview" episode (i.e., one that won't count toward its season ratings) after "The Sing-Off" finale on Monday (Dec. 20). And while the show is clearly still finding its footing, there looks to be enough raw material there to make "Perfect Couples," if not an instantly vital cog in NBC's Thursday comedy lineup, at least a reason to stay put between "Community" and "The Office."

The episode NBC aired Monday -- in hopes of taking advantage of »

Betty White Named AP Entertainer of the Year

20 December 2010 5:21 PM, PST | TV.com | See recent TV.com news »

... Betty White, 88 years young, has been named the Associated Press' Entertainer of the Year because... it was so obvious? White had a great year as TV writers discovered that an old lady saying inappropriate things can be funny. The joke was run into the ground in her various appearances on Saturday Night Live, Community, and The Middle.and then TV Land gave her the lead in Hot in Cleveland, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe award. Oh, and she also just won a SAG lifetime...  More >> »

'Survivor: Nicaragua,' 'The Fighter' And 'Black Swan' In Today's Twitter-Wood

20 December 2010 2:11 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Well, Hollywood may be getting quiet this week, but Twitter-Wood most certainly is not. In fact, most everyone who's fleeing Los Angeles in our feed has been chronicling their fear and near-death experiences driving in the rain as they attempt to get out. Slightly more interesting, however, have been reactions to the "Survivor: Nicaragua" finale, "The Fighter" and "Black Swan."

Micro-reviews from Ice-t, Jon Favreau and Alicia Silverstone can be found after jump. There, you'll also find out who from the "Community" cast has been giving away Nintendo DS games and how Steve Martin approaches jury duty.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is Twitter-Wood for December 20, 2010.

'Community' Funnier & More Ridiculous in Season 2, But Next Arrested Development?

19 December 2010 9:44 PM, PST | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

Community has wasted no time rolling with the momentum it built in Season 1. Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Chevy Chase and Ken Jeong came together last year to form a motley crew that may be the most entertaining on television.

One part well-written Edgar-Wright style comedy, one-part John Hughes heart, brought together by a fantastic ensemble cast, Season 1 of Dan Harmon’s Community may have been the funniest thing on television since Arrested Development, and one of the biggest Emmy snubs in years (really, The Office still gets recognized but not Community?). So how does a show with that kind of momentum start a Season 2? By getting a lot crazier, of course.

So far – so far, mind you – Season 2 of Community has featured an absolutely insane guest spot by Betty White, Ken Jeong’s character Señor Chang (now a student rather than »

Tulisa N-Dubz, Reece Shearsmith, Tim Vine and other celebs hit us up with lists of the year

18 December 2010 7:10 AM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Plus! The year's most quotable TV

10 best ghosts, by Reece Shearsmith

1 Daniel Balasco in Hell House by Richard Matheson

The malevolent spirit of Daniel Balasco is a monstrously evil presence and ridding him from "Hell House" – no easy task.

2 Kayako in The Grudge

The creeping terror and use of sound is so well executed, this is probably one of the most frightening films I've seen.

3 Mrs Drablow in The Woman In Black

The terrible vengeful presence of the Woman In Black's appearance is simply terrifying

4 The Shining

The Overlook Hotel is the Grandaddy of all haunted houses and packed full of disturbing ghosts. The woman in room 217 I would argue is one of its more horrible horrors.

5 Ghost Story

The Chowder Society holds a terrible secret, and that's the murder and cover up of Eva Galley. Unfortunately she wants revenge on the men responsible. Her apparition is ghastly to behold. »

2010 best guest appearances including Jack Black, Mark E Smith & Bon Iver

17 December 2010 4:07 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Plus! The mega list of lists – Aka all the other stuff we didn't have room for

2010's best guest appearances

Bon Iver on Kanye's Lost In The World

It might be quicker to compile a list of people who didn't feature on Kanye's epic My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (Mike Oldfield, Rick Ross, Gil Scott-Heron, Aphex Twin etc) but Justin Vernon's cameo is a bit special.

Gillian Anderson as Wallis Simpson in Any Human Heart

Logan Mountstuart (Matthew Macfayden) crossed paths with Gillian Anderson's Wallis Simpson (brilliantly partnered by Tom Hollander as the paranoid Duke Of Windsor). An exile on a royal streak, she floated from Portugal to the Bahamas like a swan carved in ice, until Logan was crossed off their party list with a hissed "Judas!" straight to camera.

TV in 2010: The State of the Set

17 December 2010 7:41 AM, PST | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

———

If a single recent event can help to sum up what’s happened to television in 2010, at least on a symbolic level, it’s this one: Charles Eglee, one of the writer-producers who had worked on AMC’s wildly popular The Walking Dead before either leaving or getting sacked by showrunner Frank Darabont (depending on who you ask), was hired by FX to oversee a small-screen adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis’ comic Powers. The announcement came only a few days after FX president John Landgraf announced that the network had to cancel Terriers, their critically adored hourlong dramedy about lower-middle class amateur PIs working and living in Ocean Beach, San Diego. In an unusual move, Landgraf actually held a conference call to discuss the cancellation later that day – at least in part to help stem accusations that the channel’s dog-themed advertising helped to doom the show, which never exceeded »
