Amsterdam en vele anderen, as was the full title, was a nice surprise on Dutch television in 2011. Excellent use was made of Amsterdam as a live location and the city was as much a lead character as Adam en Eva. It reminded me somehow of 'Zwarte Sneeuw', made over a decade ago with Tamara van den Dop in the same city with its streetcars, underground, beggars, junks and the returning central station location. The lead story was fascinating, if at times a bit erratic. Eva van de Wijdeven (looking at the same time as bitchy and cute as Jennifer Grey did playing Ferris Bueller's sister) falls in love with her new neighbor. The Harm-Jan character steals the show as her friend and colleague at a traveling agency. From episode 1 on I had idle hopes of the other sub characters returning in the interwoven story lines. That certainly was a downside, some of the sub-stories were just too shallow to make an impression. There is enough space left in the material to make a second season.
